In India, wedding ceremonies are never complete without the Mehendi ceremony. In this ritual, friends and family come together as the bride and her friends get mehendi applied on their hands and feet. Mehendi or henna is a paste applied on skin, that dries up, leaving behind a tattoo-like impression. While it is believed that Egyptians were the first ones to use mehendi, it caught the fancy of Indians in as early as the Vedic period. The Mehndi is applied even in Muslim wedding rituals in India and Pakistan. DC I Chennai I February 2017 1 PG 26
