Announcement:

New things are coming to the Town! Set to open in early 2025, is the new Tribute Portfolio Hotel at The Corners of Brookfield. The expected 140-room hotel will form part of the West End at The Corners. Tribute Portfolio is Marriott International’s growing global family of characterful, independent hotels drawn together by their passion for captivating design and their drive to create vibrant social scenes for guests and locals alike. Poplar Creek Town Center is taking shape in the northeast quadrant of Bluemound and Barker Roads. This new, exciting community will be anchored by a beautiful landmark building known as the Marriott Center, which will include two Marriott hotels, restaurants, retail and office spaces. Poplar Creek is scheduled to open early 2024. Margaux aims to bring forth the alluring bustle of a Parisian brasserie in a bold, new, modern eatery. Opening early 2024, at The Corners of Brookfield, the restaurant is the first original concept to be launched by Kristyn Eitel. Eitel says Margaux is a culmination of years of travel, exploration and memorable moments relishing fine food. Ultimately, Eitel wants Margaux to be the restaurant which prompts guests to fall in love with dining out all over again.

TOWN OF BROOKFIELD HISTORY

A LOOK BACK...

TOWN HISTORY By Anna Antoine

When the Town of Brookfield was first established in 1839 by Robert Curran, the Town was little more than farmland. There were no roads, so travelers used deer trails to get through the area. This meant it would take people two days to travel from Milwaukee to Brookfield! (Today, it takes 15 min.) As time went on the land became more populated and developed. This included building plank roads and railroads. In 1851 a major railway was completed connecting people from Milwaukee to Waukesha. As a half-way point between the two large cities, Brookfield became a natural rest point. Visitors stayed at popular inns along Bluemound Road called the Halfway House, Dousman-Dunkel Inn and the Phoenix House. In 1885, the Eble family built an 11-room farmhouse north of Bluemound. While the farmhouse is now gone, the name Eble is still used today for the Ice Arena in the Town.

TOWN OF BROOKFIELD HISTORY

The turn of the century brought about great change for the Town of Brookfield. A drive-in theater was built in 1939 due to the popularity of movies. In the late 1940's - early 1950's, what is now Bluemound road officially became a 4-lane concrete highway allowing residents and guests to move about the Town with ease. After the end of the World Wars, the police and fire departments hired fulltime employees to help protect the Town (volunteers were used previously). In 1954, a 16 square mile section of the Town of Brookfield became the City of Brookfield. To this day, the Town and City are separate entities and have different governing bodies.

TODAY - The Town has always been a place for people passing through to settle down for a while and take a break. We continue that tradition today. In 2017, The Corners of Brookfield opened, becoming the largest shopping center in the Town, welcoming over 2 million people annually. In 2019, the Town welcomed its seventh hotel, Tru by Hilton. By the end of 2025, the Town will welcome three new hotels in addition to new restaurants and retail. As we look to future plans, the Town continues to find ways to grow while welcoming new and returning visitors.

1920

1942

1948

Al Capone arrived in the Town to hide and produce "hooch" during the Prohibition Era.

The first police officer is formally appointed for the Town of Brookfield. His name was William Wolcott.

The first meeting of a volunteer fire department was held.

1950

1954

1957

The two-lane Bluemound Super Highway finally expanded to a four lane concrete highway.

A 16 square mile section of the Town of Brookfield separated and became the City of Brookfield.

Elmbrook Church was built. 30 people attended the first service. Now, it is the largest church in Wisconsin.

INSIDER GUIDE By: Stephanie Fong

Back in 1993, my husband Rick and I moved to the Town of Brookfield after getting married and buying our first house. Our plan? Stay put for five years. Well, fast forward to 2023, and guess what? We're still happily nested in that very same home, having raised our two boys who are now adults. What's the magic that's kept us rooted here for all these years? Let me tell you why the Town of Brookfield is our ultimate spot to eat, stay, shop, and play. First up, it's all about the location and vibe. Picture this: peaceful neighborhoods where folks casually stroll their dogs or shepherd their kids to the local park. Yet, in a mere five-minute drive, you're on lively Bluemound Road, surrounded by stellar shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Craving Milwaukee's flavor? Twenty minutes, and you're downtown or lakeside by Lake Michigan. Craving nature? A swift 15-minute drive west on 94, and you're immersed in lakeside serenity. Now, let's talk charm amidst growth. A brand-new, picturesque 3-mile trail just opened up, connecting Brookfield and Pewaukee. Fancy a bike ride or a leisurely walk? Cap it off with a coffee at the trail's end. And if pickleball is your jam, rejoice— Wray Park just sprouted four spanking new courts! Last but not least, family-friendly celebrations seal the deal. You've got to check out the town's 4th of July Parade and Picnic—a hidden gem if there ever was one. Picture a small parade that wraps up in Marx Park, where an old-fashioned picnic unfolds. Think pie-eating contests, age-appropriate shenanigans, and a delightful drenching by the town fire truck near the baseball diamond. And that's just the tip of the iceberg; the Easter Egg Hunt, Town Splash Day, and the newer Brooktoberfest with its dachshund races and hammerschlagen contests add to the festive mix. Consider yourself in on the best-kept secret of the area—The Town of Brookfield is a hidden gem. Enjoy your stay!
