Our new ILSC and Greystone College campus in Perth, Western Australia, opened its doors to its first cohort of language students on June 12, 2023, and launches its first Greystone College programs on October 9th, 2023. We are delighted to invite students to “Find their spark in the City of Light!” and take advantage of the impressive landscapes, cityscapes, beaches, tourist activities, and work opportunities available to students in Perth.
Known and loved by many of our partners and students, our ELS center in Chicago reopened on August 21, 2023. ELS Chicago welcomes students to learn English on the stunning Dominican University campus in River Forest Illinois, where ELS has operated a center for over three decades.
On July 17, 2023, our ELS centers in New York and Philadelphia moved to exciting new locations. ELS New York moved uptown to a new home on the campus of the New York Institute of Technology, while ELS Philadelphia moved to a new location at Saint Joseph’s University’s urban University City campus. Students can enjoy these premium locations in the heart of Manhattan and Philadelphia’s vibrant city center while continuing to benefit from seamless transition into higher education programs at the New York Institute of Technology and Saint Joseph’s University through ELS Conditional Admission. With the new ELS 2+2 Pathway Program, students can fast-track their journey to obtaining a degree by combining their ELS studies with two years at one of our partner community colleges, followed by two years at a top-ranked university in the USA.
Our suite of ILSC Junior Programs is introducing a new Skills Plus option for 2024. This optional add-on for students aged 13-17 includes specialized classes such as Influencing through Social Media, Global Leadership, and Drama and Performance, in addition to two activities per week related to students’ chosen study topic. The Skills Plus option is available during specific weeks in a selection of our 2024 summer programs.
Greystone College Canada has been updating offerings to provide the best training and support to students. These updates include:
New technology programs launch winter 2023/2024. Programs include Diplomas in Data Analytics, Front End Development, FullStack Development, and Project Management, all with co-op options.
From January 1, 2024, practicum lengths at Collège Greystone in Montréal extend to 20 weeks; students can work full-time off-campus during their practicum.
FREE French study for Montréal students began in summer 2023 to help students meet a new Quebec Government language requirement. French skills also enhance students' job opportunities in Quebec, and can strengthen future Canadian Permanent Residence applications.
On July 17, 2023, we relaunched our Online English program under a new brand, ILSC HELLO. ILSC HELLO is designed to better meet the needs of students by offering four program options, three new schedules that run twice per day, and a progression guarantee. We also plan to launch Online French next year; more details coming soon!
We are delighted to introduce our new ILSC Humanitarian Scholarship, covering 12 weeks of English language study to support newly arrived refugees who are facing language barriers to accessing tertiary education or employment in Australia.

Skills Plus is designed for students aged 13-17 years old who already have a foundation in English. Skills Plus classes are focused on learning topics that are relevant, relatable, and interesting to teens. In addition to the Skills Plus classes, the Skills Plus option includes two activities each week related to the study topic.
Drama and Performance (Junior Camp at ILSC Montréal Campus & Junior Camp at McGill): Students are introduced to the world of English theatre and performance arts and improve their English communication skills through acting and scriptwriting. This option requires a minimum level of Beginner 4.
Global Leadership (Junior Camp at ILSC Toronto): Students develop essential leadership skills such as critical thinking, communication, empathy, and cultural awareness. This option requires a minimum level of Intermediate 2.
Influencing Through Social Media (Junior Camp at UBC): Students develop their skills as social media communicators and build their social media presence by learning about the qualities of a successful brand identity such as authenticity, credibility, expertise, and relatability. WHAT ARE OPT (OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING) AND CPT (CURRICULAR PRACTICAL TRAINING)?
International students are permitted to work short-term in the USA after completion of their first academic year or after graduation through Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
Optional Practical Training (OPT) allows international (F-1) students to work up to 12 months in jobs related to their major field of study, either after graduation from their degree program or after completing at least their first full academic year. OPT is not tied to any specific employer. Students who have completed degrees in STEM fields are eligible for up to 3-years (36 months) of OPT.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows international (F-1) students to gain valuable experience directly related to their major through paid or unpaid internships, a practicum, etc. CPT must be completed before graduating, must be part of the program of study or provide coursecredit, and is tied to a specific employer.

ELS ACADEMIC ENGLISH PLACEMENT TEST (FORMERLY ELS PRE-ARRIVAL TEST): Delivered online, the ELS Academic English Placement Test assesses students' reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking. Students need a computer with microphone and camera to complete the test, which takes about 75 minutes. ELS receives the results within 24 hours and can use them to place students in the right class and to help them plan how long they need to study to achieve their English learning or university goals. This test is the same as the ILSC Academic English test, adapted to reflect ELS language levels.
