F
or centuries, the Port of Baku has served as a link between East and West, alongside the ancient Silk Road, as well as a North-South transport corridor that connects North Europe and Russia with the Middle East and South Asia. Azerbaijan has worked to strengthen and redefine the historically important Silk Road in the region by increasing its connectivity through new road, rail and port projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway. In 2007, due to a limited expansion capacity of the port at its original site, the Government of Azerbaijan decided to move the Port to a new
