“EstoVir” Making Men Stronger in Their Faith - in Their Family - in Their Community

Esto Vir! is a vocation camp for young men entering sophomore year of high school through young adulthood. It is an opportunity for men who may be open to the priesthood to come together and spend some days in community with each other and the seminarians of the diocese. Prayer, games and conversations about discernment, growing in holiness, and priesthood are key aspects of the camp. The camp encourages priestly vocations by building community among young men of the diocese who are pursuing holiness and who want what God wants for them. The camp is often a steppingstone prior to joining a monthly discernment group or attending a Come and See weekend at the seminary. It is powerful for a young man who attends two years in a row to see someone who, last year, was a camper like them, and this year, is now leading it as a seminarian. One camper said this: “I remember being surprised and excited that there were other young guys who were older than I was and who were more informed than I was, pursuing the priesthood and seeing them as human beings. Getting to know them, getting to know what they’re like – that really allowed me to take a look at myself and look at them and say, ‘you know it’s actually possible for me to do this.’” By Fr. Matthew Schmitz, Promoter, Office of Vocations
