GAMES The 2019 edition of the AIMS Games again reached new heights this year, with over 11,500 participants converging on Mt Maunganui in September for a week full of sport and activity across 23 different codes.
A
fter 15 years, what started as a small festival of sport has now grown into what is now considered the international championships for intermediate and middle school students. The AIMS Games provides students the opportunity to compete at the elite level against the best, while embracing fair play and the joys of being active. This year, Dio had 77 students representing the School across a range of sports – hockey, netball, futsal, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, water polo, swimming, hip hop and cross country. Congratulations to our futsal and water polo teams for taking out gold and silver medals – two very exciting finals to watch and two great team performances. Every student represented themselves and the School with pride and the famous ‘Team Dio’ spirit was on display for all to see as students got out and supported each other throughout the week. With competitors playing up to three games a day, the week was not only physically exhausting, but mentally tough as well, and the Dio team were well supported by a great bunch of coaches, managers and staff. Thank you to everyone who was involved for what was an incredible week.

We had a lot of great results throughout the week but also saw some incredible improvement from our girls and we always had such amazing support on the sidelines. At the end of the week it is always hard for the girls to come home as they have had so much fun, made new friends, and have memories they will cherish for a long time.
