Deaths

Yvette Corlett (Williams) on 13 April 2019. Yvette is a past Dio staff member who won gold in the long jump at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, breaking the Games record in the process. She was also one of New Zealand’s most versatile athletes, winning gold at the Empire

Games for long jump, shot put and discus, and representing New Zealand in basketball. Yvette is fondly remembered by many an Old Girl as an inspirational and extremely supportive teacher who taught PE classes and coached a range of sports groups at Dio from 1979 to 1991. Pat (Patrichia) Cussen (Budd) on 24 May 2019. Pat was a past President of the Old Girls’ League, and a former staff member who was a Junior School ‘games mistress’ (PE teacher). Barbara Dawn (1945) on 15 December 2018 Briar Haughton (McRae, 1950s) on 9 October 2018 Diana Sydney Wilson (Wilbur Smith) on 21 April 2019 in her 84th year. Diana started Dio in 1947.

Achievements

Tracey Chaney (Thomson, 1999) gained a Graduate Diploma of Commerce from the University of Auckland in 2015. Katie (Kathryn) Collins (2005) recently graduated from the University of Canterbury with a PhD in Biological Sciences. Catherine Eaddy (2013) graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (with Distinction) in 2018. Bronwyn Erickson (Holmes, 2001) graduated with a BSc in Biological Science from the University of Auckland in 2008, followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Science and Nursing. She graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2015. Sarah Greenway (Jecks, 2003) graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006.

Caitlin Hollings (2009) has been awarded the FMB Reynolds Scholarship in Law to Oxford, where she will study towards a Masters in Law beginning in late 2019. Zelda Hollings (2008) has completed a Masters in Engineering, graduating top in her class at the University of NSW. She recently accepted a highly sought-after position at McKinsey’s Consultants in Sydney. Chelsea Lind (2011) gained her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Auckland in 2018. She also won the University of Auckland School of Nursing Prize for ‘The most distinguished academic performance throughout the Bachelor of Nursing programme’ and the Wolters Kluwer Prize for ‘The most distinguished performance in both clinical and academic work’. Anna McDonald (Elvery, 2003) graduated with an MBChB, Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, from the University of Auckland in 2016. Rebecca Sherie (Dearing, 2000) was awarded the New Zealand Police District Commander’s Certificate for Bravery in 2018. Ariana Ward (2012), graduated with a Master of Commerce in Global Management and Innovation from the University of Auckland. In 2017, Ariana was awarded Top in Course for the ‘Competing Internationally’ paper. She also won a Top Student Award in 2016 while studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Communications conjoint degree at the Auckland University of Technology. Ariana completed two simultaneous and highly coveted internships for Kea New Zealand and Mediaworks. She now works as Crew Planner at Air New Zealand for the airline’s 777 and 787 fleets.
