THRILL OF THE HUNT
Built to Fish
Sailfish boats are designed by anglers, for anglers, and loaded with smart fishing features. Text BY WILLIAM RANDALL
Great dogs are a joy to have. Great hunting dogs are still a joy, but they’re also valuable partners because they know how to work a hunt. Sailfish Boats are like that. They provide the relaxing fun of a great day on the water, but their DNA is all about getting after fish. The strands of that DNA were stitched together across a company history peopled by hardcore fishermen. The original owners and managers knew what the Southeast fishing market needed and hired boat designers and engineers who got that. As the company grew and explored further fishing grounds, dealers and owners kept Sailfish true to those roots. These boats could become family comfortable and have plenty of amenities, but they had to hold onto their fish-hunting prowess. That comes down to three crucial things: offshore toughness and safety, a great hull whether running or still, and all the fishing features and design decisions to efficiently and successfully handle working the fish.

We Can’t Say Bulletproof, But… “I always say, ‘You choose to go out, but you have to come back,’” says Denny Warren, who has been building, designing and selling Sailfish Boats for nearly 30 years. Denny highlights the strength of Sailfish’s lamination schedule, which includes Kevlar® and Carbon Fiber reinforcement for unmatched durability. The foam-filled stringer system adds rigidity and safety. And hulls and every showing surface are finished with the highest quality gelcoats. The Sailfish quality control team may be the most important employees in the facility. “It explains how we can offer a 10-year hull warranty,” Denny says, “but it’s also how we know we are taking care of our owners, no matter what they get themselves into.”
