We’re known as Atlanta’s authentic French bakery whose flaky, buttery croissants are so good, we named our bakery after them. But croissants aren’t all we make. Many chefs across Atlanta trust us as their source for hundreds of exceptional breads and pastries baked fresh daily. They know we have the facility, ability and experience to deliver both small-volume hand-shaped artisan bread orders as well as large-volume, complex orders for their restaurants, hotels, airlines, catering companies, and more. We’re also their source for developing custom recipes and private label products. Originally from France, co-owners Pascal Mezzacqui, Pastry Chef, and Patrick Jacquot, Head Baker, are classically trained in the French tradition. From their beginnings in July of 1996 with an order for five dozen poppy seed buns, to today, more than 22 years later, they continue to honor their heritage by using wholesome ingredients and a dedication to artisan skills that result in quality you can taste.

We’d like to be your source for exceptional baked goods and welcome the opportunity to introduce you to our vast selection of products and friendly customer service team. A selection of our fresh-made breads, pastries, and, of course, unforgettable croissants is now available to the public! Just place your order online by 2pm and pick it up the following day!

Chef Pat Pascarella helms the kitchen at The White Bull as executive chef and partner. The restaurant—with a name inspired by literary icon Ernest Hemingway, who referred to the blank page as “the white bull”—showcases a thoughtful menu of simple, farm-forward fare prepared with ingredients sourced exclusively from Georgia farmers and purveyors. Dishes are defined by the ingredients available rather than any specific cuisine, and the menu showcases an elevated, yet approachable selection. Since opening in Decatur Square in March 2018, The White Bull has been named “Best New Restaurant” by Creative

Loafing, “Best Farm-to-Table Restaurant” by Atlanta Magazine, and among “Atlanta’s Best New Restaurants of 2018” by Thrillist. Both the food and cocktail programs have been recognized in local and national publications, including Garden & Gun, Condé Nast Traveler, The Atlanta JournalConstitution, and more. Chef Pascarella has two decades of experience in kitchens and draws expertise from a culinary background that most recently included serving as executive chef at Atlanta’s The Optimist and as executive chef and owner of his renowned Italian restaurant Bar Sugo in Norwalk, Connecticut. In 2016, The New York Times awarded Bar Sugo with the much soughtafter rating of “Very Good,” calling the restaurant “serious about food that is both fresh and innovative.” Prior, Pascarella cooked in Manhattan

DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Pascarella: I personally think we have a bunch of like-minded chefs and operators who just want to do something good. Whether it’s donating time and money or just elevating a cuisine in a way where we basically eliminate the carbon footprint. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? I like Atlanta because it’s a perfect climate to grow a ton of ingredients, and we are at the center of the Southern food explosion that’s happening right now. Atlanta offers so many different areas to succeed. You don’t find that in many cities. What seasonal ingredients can you find in Atlanta that you cannot find elsewhere? I absolutely love the fact that we can literally grow anything here—it’s amazing! I personally love the wheat we grow here. We use it all year round, and it’s extremely flavorful. Seventy percent of Americans’ diets come from wheat, and they have no idea where it comes from. But in Georgia, we do. What food trends do you think are next to arrive in Atlanta? Vegetable-driven restaurants...and pasta is going to make a comeback!

Atlanta-based husband and wife team, Thip and Vanh Athakhanh, are the founders of Snackboxe Bistro, and their recent trip to Laos in 2016 inspired them to reconnect deeply with their roots and bring their passion for Laotian culture and food to life. Thip’s professional background includes freelance photography and over 10 years of experience in global supply chain/project management. Her expertise in sourcing, negotiating, and the ability to develop forecast models transferred seamlessly into the restaurateur world, allowing Snackboxe to offer high-quality ingredients while keeping costs competitive. She creates her own menu and recipes, constantly brainstorming innovative ideas that will let her marry old-school tradition with the latest food trends. Her goal is to introduce the community to the international cuisine she believe Atlantans have been missing out on— Laotian food! DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Athakhanh: Atlanta is the 10th largest melting pot city in the country. It is a paradise for foodies with an adventurous palate. Along one popular strip known as Buford Highway, you can

Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? Atlanta will always be home. My husband, my family, and memorable milestones are here. An Atlanta native, Executive Chef and Partner Ron Hsu brings culinary chops from the internationally-acclaimed, Michelin-starred restaurants of NYC, serving as executive sous chef and creative director at Le Bernardin, and executive chef at Le Colonial. Lazy Betty, Hsu’s first restaurant, opened in February 2019 in Atlanta. This modern and inventive restaurant is also helmed by Chef de Cuisine/Partner Aaron Phillips and Hsu’s siblings, Anita and Howard. Lazy Betty serves tasting menus that showcase refined dishes, each course designed by Hsu to feature an array of cooking styles and flavors. Also find Hsu on Netflix’s cooking series “The Final Table,” which premiered in November 2018. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Hsu: I think one way Atlanta cuisine is standing out is the influence of ethnic food that’s so prevalent all over the state. The influence of Buford Highway has been permeating the food scene for decades, and Duluth has proven itself to be a little Koreatown. With Atlanta being such a diverse city with so many people moving here, I think it’s being represented better than ever. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? I don’t know if I chose Atlanta or it chose me. I was born here and spent more time in the kitchens of Atlanta than any other city. What Atlanta offers that no other city offers is the people and culture. At Lazy Betty, the chefs are very interactive with customers, and we love having them spend their evenings with us so we can get to know them. Atlanta represents “Southern hospitality” like no other place.

After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu with a certificate in baking and patisserie, Chef Jasmin Willis began her career in the pastry world at St. Cecilia working under Corporate Pastry Chef Chrysta Poulos, one of the most skilled chefs in Atlanta, to whom Willis credits with making her the chef and owner she is today. It wasn’t long after arriving at St. Cecilia that Willis was offered a promotion and a transfer to open Marcel as the lead pastry chef—a time she regards as a major highlight in her career—which eventually led her to the commissary at King + Duke. A master of all things sweet and sugary, Willis later decided to try her hand on the cook’s line, which landed her back-of-the-house at Beetlecat. When she discovered her knack for that avenue, the time was right to set out and open Gracious Plenty! But during the year and a half it took to open GP, Willis trained further, under female culinary icon Jenn Robbins. Willis’ accolades include working on the team that won Cochon 555 in 2016, participating in the philanthropic endeavors of Team Hidi, and multiple appearances at Attack of The Killer Tomato Festival! DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Willis: I think Atlanta has gone back to its roots. Southern food is about gravy, biscuits, and anything fried because those are the ingredients that have always been readily available. But now that we all don’t have to tend to our own farms, and we have an awesome group of farmers who take pride in what they do, I feel like Atlanta has been given the opportunity to showcase Southern vegetables and produce in a whole new light. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? I chose Atlanta because this is where I grew up in the culinary industry. This city has so much to offer. Chef Nolan Wynn grew up in a small rural town in South Georgia, where he was greatly exposed to agriculture, hunting, and fishing. This connection to food sourcing helped develop his passion for it at a young age, and he was often found experimenting in the kitchen. By the time he got a job as a line cook the summer before college, Wynn was deeply in love with kitchen culture. He loved the rush, the pressure, and the stress that came with life as a chef. A few years into college, Wynn found himself in the kitchen again and was eager to expand his culinary horizons. At Hugh Acheson’s restaurant, Five & Ten, Wynn cycled through every station of the kitchen over the course of three years before landing at Chef Ford Fry’s no. 246 in Decatur. Here, his flame for pasta making was ignited. He spent a little over five years working at no. 246 and then some time at King + Duke. By now, well-equipped for the culinary world, Wynn and a friend tossed around the idea of opening something all their own—and thus, Banshee was born. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Wynn: While there are still many places in Atlanta that serve the classics and do them well, it seems as if recently many chefs are pushing the boundaries of what Southern food is, presenting classic ideas in a new, inspired, and, oftentimes, lighter way. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? Atlanta has always had a ton of great restaurants. And even though many Atlanta restaurants are getting more national recognition, a lot of the best restaurants are “hole-in-the-wall” gems that can be found throughout many of our small neighborhoods. There is always a new place to try that you may have never even heard of. What seasonal ingredients can you find in Atlanta that you cannot find elsewhere? The weather in Georgia is oftentimes unpredictable. This allows for seasons to overlap for an extended amount of time. My favorite time of year is when summer and fall collide. Being able to use tomatoes, eggplant, and peas at the same time as figs, plums, and fall squashes allows for some pretty awesome flavor combinations. What food trends do you think are next to arrive in Atlanta? I really hope that Atlanta continues to break away from its comfort zone and encourages people to be innovative and bring new ideas to our food scene.

Chef Jared Hucks was born and raised in Atlanta, enjoying the tradition of Southern comfort food and exploring the many facets of ethnic cuisines. Growing up in a creative family of artists, food became his artistic medium. Having traveled and worked on five continents, Hucks brings a wealth of worldly experience to his culinary practice. His cooking career began in 1996, following his first year of college in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, when he returned home to Atlanta and landed his first kitchen job. Beyond graduating from the French Culinary Institute in NYC with honors in

rotate the freshest, most seasonal ingredients available. Cooking seasonally gives us the confidence to know we are cooking and serving the very best product. What food trends do you think are next to arrive in Atlanta? The obsession with healthy dining is becoming more of a normality, so I think we can expect to see more menus being designed around special diets (whether gluten-free, vegan, paleo, keto, and so on) which will encourage more plant-based cooking and an overall accommodation to this growing group of diners and beyond; also, environmental awareness and sustainability, from root-to-stem to nose-to-tail. We’ll continue to be creative and push the boundaries for more sustainable, less wasteful ways of doing things.

2000, his career has taken him to work in some of the finest and most renowned restaurants in the world, like: the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa in Vail, Colorado; Guillaume at Bennelong at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia; The Baan Rim Pa restaurant group in Phuket, Thailand; Arzak Restaurant in San Sebastian, Spain; Captain’s Galley in Scrabster, Scotland; Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark; and Bacchanalia in Atlanta, just to name a few. Hucks returned to his hometown in 2013 after almost two decades of world travel to debut The Alden. His extensive experience in the restaurant industry comes to fruition as he pushes the envelope at The Alden, continuing to define his own cooking style and foster an unforgettable dining experience. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Hucks: Nowadays, with Atlanta being a focal point for more industries and lifestyles alike, there is a demand to be met for various eating styles, including those rooted in the obsession of health-forward dining. With Southern hospitality at the forefront, Atlanta chefs continue to rise to the occasion to keep up with these food trends and, most importantly, take care of the consumer as best we can. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? Atlanta is my hometown, and after several years of being away, I’ve returned and am honored to be a part of the restaurant community here, as it’s a powerhouse of talent that continues to break new ground making Atlanta more and more a culinary destination. What seasonal ingredients can you find in Atlanta that you cannot find elsewhere? Georgia’s geographic and agricultural diversity makes Atlanta a great resource for fresh, local (and regional) ingredients. Our menu at The Alden relies on the ebb and flow of harvests throughout the four distinct seasons here as we frequently

Chef Taylor Neary is executive chef of Holmes, a neighborhood restaurant and bar within the historic Jones House at Alpharetta City Center. A Roswell (Georgia) native, Chef Neary serves eclectic dishes made with locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients from area farms. Prior to opening Holmes in July 2018, Chef Neary attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta. During that time, he worked at Stoney River Grill, Roswell’s legendary steakhouse, before continuing on to Buckhead Life Group’s Kyma. Over the last seven years, Chef Neary has helped lead kitchens at acclaimed restaurants across town, including Roux on Canton, Little Alley Steak, Opulent, St. Cecilia, and Marcel, where he most recently served as sous chef. Guests at Holmes can expect a lunch menu of seasonal salads, small plates, and à la carte entrées, and a dinner menu offering mezzestyle dining, as well as larger plates. The bar serves a creative list of cocktails (prepared with ingredients made fresh in-house), craft brews (canned and bottled), a rotating draft beer from Variant Brewing Company in Roswell, and a wine list comprised of reds, whites, bubbles, rosés, and a handful of reserve options. Housed in the Jones House, a 1915 historic building and former residence preserved by Alpharetta City Center, Holmes showcases a handsome interior with leather banquettes, dark geometric tile, and tinted shades of gray, brown, and navy. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Neary: Atlanta is pushing the envelope, mixing traditional Southern cuisine with an eclectic feel derived from different regional flavors and techniques. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? Atlanta is my hometown, and the food scene is expanding at a rapid pace, both inside and outside of the perimeter. We’re located in Alpharetta—just outside of the perimeter—and we have the advantage of having local farms within walking distance from the restaurant. What seasonal ingredients can you find in Atlanta that you cannot find elsewhere? We really like to use honeysuckle. We pickle it, use it in vinegars, and use it to fortify cocktails. What food trends do you think are next to arrive in Atlanta? We feel that pasta will always have a place in the city. I see people tapping into old school techniques and making a play on them. 20

As co-owner and culinary director of Storico Fresco Alimentari e Ristorante, an Italian restaurant and grocery in Buckhead, and a soon-to-open Roman-inspired concept, Forza Storico in West Midtown, Chef Mike Patrick offers his guests immersive cuisine and a purely authentic dining experience that reflects the way food and wine are treated in Italy. His handmade pasta, traditional Italian dishes, and the Italian counterculture in the rustic restaurant and market make up an Italian experience that local Atlantans can only dream of. Chef Patrick’s culinary career began as a hobby, making pasta in his basement, and although his path into the culinary world was not a straight one—detouring for everything from scuba diving to drag racing—it was filled with passion. After attending the Florida Culinary Institute and honing his skills across the restaurants of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Patrick moved to Atlanta where he studied for his sommelier certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers. A 2007 trip to Italy was a major pivoting point, leading to small jobs throughout Italy—from working in a porchetta production facility to connecting with the pasta-making networks of local Italian grandmothers—where he learned as much as possible about the culinary art. Patrick returned to Atlanta in 2009, and the pasta he made at home sold out within 25 minutes on his first day at the Peachtree Road Farmers’ Market. Soon after, Patrick met Pietro Gianni, his partner at Storico Fresco. The duo began making plans for their Italian eatery and grocery store. Their original shop opened in 2013. It quickly expanded and was relocated to Buckhead in 2016. The two are currently preparing for their latest concept, Forza Storico, a Roman-inspired restaurant opening this summer in West Midtown. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Patrick: Atlanta stands out in its adherence and celebration of local proteins and produce. Atlanta is really great at supporting all the farms, artisans, and manufacturers of quality driven products and goods that are regional to the southeast. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? It’s more like Atlanta chose me. I ended up here as a firefighter/paramedic after bouncing around a multitude of industries, from drag racing to scuba diving to wine sales and a handful of positions in the culinary world. Atlanta finally gave me the ability to put down roots and explore and revisit my love for food and wine. Atlanta’s farmers’ market system was instrumental in helping me start Storico Fresco, which is a key and essential part of the city’s food infrastructure. What seasonal ingredients can you find in Atlanta that you cannot find elsewhere? We love working with our local farmers to showcase produce and protein that is locally-grown and locally-sourced, which helps us embody the true nature

of Italian cooking. For example, we have McMullan Family Farms growing all of our arugula (up to 8,000-square-feet just to supply the restaurant); we work with local egg farmers (Rise & Shine) to get only farm fresh eggs, since that is a key ingredient in our pastas; and Riverview Farms and Heywoods Provisions helps provide us with all our amazing pork products (guanciale, pancetta, and italian sausage). So we’re big on supporting our local purveyors. We incorporate the seasons pretty naturally, of course, changing the vegetables according to seasons. We also change up pastas, appetizers, et cetera. What food trends do you think are next to arrive in Atlanta? Steady growth of vegetable-based dishes. Vegetarian/vegan trends. More casualstyle dining with great food.

Everyone in Chef Evelyn Ling’s family was in the restaurant business, including her parents who owned a small AmericanChinese restaurant in Forsyth. It was part of the family routine for her and her siblings to help out after school and on weekends. While her brother and sisters preferred to work in front of house, Evelyn gravitated toward the kitchen. This is where it all started. Chef Ling pursued cooking seriously after high school, enrolling in The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and after, working for a short amount of time at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. When she returned home, she was incredibly eager to jump into Atlanta’s food scene. At that time, Bacchanalia was considered among the best restaurants in the city, and lucky for Ling, Chef Anne Quatrano was willing to take a chance on her. Five years later, Chef Ling finds herself opening Pancake Social at the ever-popular Ponce City Market. DiningOut Magazine: What sets Atlanta’s dining scene apart from other Southern cities? Ling: Other than a few Atlanta staples, there aren’t a lot of restaurants that come to mind that only focus on those traditional Southern classics. There is so much cultural diversity in the city now, that you can find just about anything. Why choose Atlanta as the home for your culinary career? My family lives about an hour south of the city, so that played a big role for me at first. But Atlanta is also one of the fastest growing food cities in the country. New

More home runs are on the horizon with this upcoming restaurant line-up that’s sure to turn some heads. BURN by Rocky Patel will offer an eclectic mix of Mediterranean, Asian, and Cuban vibes stirred into their cuisine, cocktails, and premium cigars. Like the three “L’s” of real estate (Location, Location, Location), REEL Seafood is also governed by a set of threes, the “Q’s”: Quality, Quality, Quality. Fresh, premium seafood is the name of the game here. In November, the restaurant unveiled a new menu full of inspired dishes. Starters now include Seafood Gumbo, Flash Fried Calamari, and New England Clam Chowder. The “Tired of the Sea” section offers the table’s carnivores dishes like Coffee Crusted Ribeye and Blackened Beef Tenderloin. For seafood-centric items, order up the Pan Fried Trout, Sweet Chili Glazed Swordfish Steak, Jerk Grilled Salmon, and Pepper Seared Scallops. Not all change is good, but this new menu sure is. We like a good happy hour. So, allow us to boast about Doraku’s smoking hot happy hour offerings for a minute. Of course, no happy hour is complete without tasty libations, and Doraku has you covered with Japanese beer, mimosas, red and white wines, sake, and classic cocktails that range in price from $4-$14. Happy hour is available daily from 5-7pm. DORAKUSUSHI.COM

Rose & Rye takes their cocktails seriously. They bring a practiced touch, with plenty of herbs, peels, and housemade concoctions, without getting too trendy or esoteric. They’re handmade with a decidedly modern, creative flourish, but, most importantly, they’re thoughtful and delicious! Their signature Rose & Rye cocktail with George Dickel Rye whiskey, bitters, and rose water, served with a flamed orange is a perfect accompaniment to a duck confit with cauliflower cream or the expertly seared rib-eye. Their street-level brick and stone lounge, “The Grotto,” provides the ideal backdrop for steak and whiskey or the cozy pairing of your choice. And if you want to try something new on the grape side, their wine program dips into some harder-to-find countries and regions. ROSERYE.COM

While this area favorite was thought up by one of Atlanta’s very own, Chef Jared A. Hucks, its comforting Southern menu is laced with inspiration from around the globe. Chef Hucks is a born-and-raised Georgian, but his culinary pursuits have landed him in kitchens across Spain, Australia, Scotland, Denmark, and Thailand. Enveloped in the sleek mod environs of The Alden, nosh your way through contemporary renditions of Southern classics—like Harissa Shrimp & Grits with chermoula and aged cheddar or Lavender Baked Chicken & Waffles with local honey mustard and chicken jus—all large enough to split family-style. But for an especially intimate experience, snag a spot at the 11-seater tasting counter, where you can sample improvised bites from chef himself and catch some close-ups of the open kitchen. THEALDENRESTAURANT.COM

What was once an old cottage is now an unpretentious restaurant that oozes romance. Further enhancing the spot’s sexy vibe, is live music every Tuesday and Thursday on the patio. On Tuesdays from 6:30-9pm, enjoy French and American music by Desmond Myers. Mes Amis, French for “my friends,” is a musical ensemble comprised of artists from around the world that you can find on stage here every Thursday from 7:3010pm. The troupe performs everything from classic Brazilian compositions to pop and jazz standards, with vocals in Portuguese, French, and English.

Life’s too short to say no to pizza. That’s a rule by which the founders of PIZZAiOLO live their lives and why the restaurant’s motto is #iOLO (I Only Live Once). The chefs here are encouraged to cook without constraints, approaching pizza-making with the same zest they approach life. The centuries-old art of crafting pizza is remastered here with gourmet ingredients and leading-edge techniques. Founder Giulio Adriani is so smitten with pizza-making, his collection of accolades include taking gold for the 2010 World Pizza Championship in Italy, 2017 Guinness World Record holder for world’s largest pizza (1.3 miles long, if you’re wondering), and a U.S. Green Card that was approved thanks to his signature pie, the Montanara (we’re serious).

As an official pub partner of Atlanta United, Hudson FC is the ideal setting for match day. They’re locally owned—and supporters themselves—with a passionate fan atmosphere and 360-degree views of Atlanta United, MLS, and Premier League matches. With an amazing selection of local, craft, and international beers, delicious gastropub food, and a patio with games and even more TVs, it’s the perfect place to host fan clubs or watching parties. Their Pub Burger with a smoked paprika patty, smoked cheddar, Dijon mustard, and bacon-jam on ciabatta provides prime fuel for a match. HUDSONFC.COM

Croissant Bakery, of course, makes some great croissants. But with Pascal Mezzacqui, a celebrated French pastry chef, and head baker Patrick Jacquot helming the production, croissants aren’t the only thing in this oven. Croissant Bakery also offers danishes, muffins, scones, and, most famously, a delicious array of freshly baked breads—ciabatta, sourdough, focaccia, baguettes, and more. Starting out as a commercial bakery 22 years ago, Croissant Bakery serves the likes of restaurants, hotels, airlines, and catering companies with hundreds of breads and pastries, exclusive recipes, and private label products. They now offer a selection of delicious items for sale to the public. Order online and pick up your goodies from the bakery directly. CROISSANTBAKERY.COM

Quick, simple comfort food—welcome to Atlanta’s home for the best in Laotian street food. Run by husband-and-wife team, Vanh and Thip Athakhanh, Snackboxe Bistro never fails to bring the goods. Their mind-blowing daily noodle specials keep us coming back, offered all day long at $10-$12. Blocks away from the Centennial Olympic Park, Brklyn Kitchen & Lounge is bringing a taste of the East Coast and the islands to Atlanta. Just opened in March, Brklyn is the product of two friends with roots steeped in New York and the West Indies, complete with pizza dough arriving directly from Brooklyn and “mama” chef leading the way in the kitchen with Guyanesestyle cooking. You will experience something special with the Oxtail Pizza or the Jerk Chicken with spinach rice. The Rasta Pasta should not be missed—spicy Caribbean Alfredo and bell peppers trinity over penne pasta topped with Parmesan and your choice of salmon, curry chicken, shrimp, steak, or vegetables. Brklyn is your stop for a “very classy, vibrant, sensual place with a smooth vibe,” says Brklyn’s foodie and drink specialist, Myia Butler. FACEBOOK.COM/BRKLYNKNL 30

You know you’re doing something right if you’ve been in business for 63 years. Ever since The Silver Skillet put itself on the map in 1956, people haven’t stopped singing its praises. The quintessential diner dishes up Southern comfort foods for breakfast and lunch. We’re talking Grilled Corned Beef Hash and Homemade Biscuits with Gravy in the AM and killer burgers and sandwiches in the PM. The Silver Skillet is such a staple in Atlanta that it’s been represented in a handful of commercials and ads, and has even hit the silver screen. It’s known to draw in some famous guests, too, including Paul Harvey, Katie Couric, and Zach Galifianakis. THESILVERSKILLET.COM

An Atlanta mainstay, Eats has been serving its diverse and eclectic clientele since 1993 and is, quite frankly, one of the few things that hasn’t changed in the city. A big part of the

local culture, Eats has remained hugely popular for its open-minded, low key atmosphere and amazing, low-priced dishes, like the Meat and Three Plate: a choice of lemon pepper, barbecue, or jerk chicken (with the latter as the home favorite), turkey meatloaf, or tilapia (on Fridays) with three veggie sides for $9.75. Do yourself a favor and fall in love with the true, lasting local flavor of Eats! EATSPONCE.NET

A fresh take on classic Americana is at the heart of the aesthetic at Parkwoods—from the blending of rustic, wood elements with simple, clean design to the menu that takes an elevated, fresh approach to regional Southern cuisine. But what we really love at Parkwoods is the Fried Chicken with braised collard greens, red eye gravy, and a sopping biscuit. The cast iron presentation is absolutely Instagram-able, but the perfectly crispy, golden-fried chicken and a buttery biscuit with warm collard greens are an Atlanta dream come true. For the ultimate Palm experience, consider splitting the Prime Double-Cut New York Strip with a fellow steak lover. It’s portioned to share and sliced tableside. Like all Palm steaks, it’s seasoned with kosher salt and olive oil, with just the right amount of char for intense flavor. Order yours with the Lobster Truffle Butter for a truly memorable indulgence. The Palm’s relaxing, warm, and inviting atmosphere will make you feel right at home, which somehow makes their beautifully executed prime aged steaks, filets, and chops taste even better—no small feat! The new restaurant, which made its grand debut in April, draws much of its inspiration from Georgia’s iconic Beltline—a former railway corridor undergoing an extensive transformation into a multi-use open space trail. Reflecting themes of movement and transportation, the dining room touts a hand-painted mural spanning across six walls. Other edgy art installations line the room, serving as playful conversation starters. Just as the Beltline is so deeply a part of the area’s history and future, Local Motives hopes to plant some roots of its own. The concept serves as an homage to the city’s rich culture through art, décor, and cuisine. On the menu—which is heavy with ingredients from local purveyors such as Pure Bliss Organics and Pine Street Market—find the likes of red grits, beef tartare, charred octopus, and beyond. No time to linger? Swing by the in-house coffee shop offering steaming mugs of joe and grab-and-go bites.

Saltwood has something for everyone. For the lunch crowds, the burgers and sandwiches are amazing, and the unlimited made-to-order salad bar is one of the most buzzed about lunch offerings in Atlanta—dine in or carry-out! Start with spinach, romaine, mixed greens, kale, etc. Then pick from over 100 mix-in items: veggies, cheeses, and grains to premium olive oils, vinegars, egg, tuna, sprouts, plus dried fruits and nuts. Finish off with your choice of protein, including chicken, steak, or shrimp. In the evening, pull up a seat at the Charcuterie Bar, where you can watch the chef prepare signature charcuterie and cheese boards, steak tartare, or a deconstructed Caesar salad before diving into dinner. In the chic lobby of Le Meridien Atlanta Perimeter Hotel, Portico Global Cuisine offers an outstanding menu of eclectic, internationally-inspired dishes. Chef Alejandro Rojas’ travels and training through Spain, the Mediterranean, Thailand, and New York City influence a menu that brings a wordly flair to classic Southern cooking. We love Portico’s Sunday Jazz Brunch for their carefully-crafted brunch favorites, with a focus on local, sustainable ingredients and chef Alejandro’s signature twists. The sweet melody of the legendary T Woods Trio carries beautifully through the light-filled dining room, and the $8 bottomless mimosas certainly don’t hurt the mood! Recently transformed and celebrating its natural surroundings and storied past, The Whitley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, embraces the importance of traditions and epicurean moments through a daily ritual of bourbon tasting. Individual barrels that best represent a taste of the South are hand-selected from bourbon country, then poured, daily, into a fusion tower, where the bourbon slowly drips over locally-sourced pecans. Exploding with local and regional talent, Atlanta’s culinary scene is bursting at the seams. On par with talented toques, Atlanta’s cocktail scene is also swirling up its own magic. Experimenting with infused spirits and expertly crafted ice spheres, our spirited sages are redefining the bar scene, one cocktail at a time. On this stage of performative mixology, the spotlight shines on many a talent, blending dashes of whimsy with jiggers of mind-swirling flavor. This issue, we celebrate our finest whiskey whisperers, rum royalty, and all around craft cocktail creators. Cheers!

Living in the moment, creating meaningful and lifelong relationships, and making dreams happen.

Staying true and honest with Mother Earth. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COCKTAIL?

I wanted to keep it clean and simple! Not overplaying or manipulating flavors.

THE COCKTAIL ONE OFF In a shaker, add 2 ounces Stillhouse America’s Finest Original whiskey, 1/2 ounce lemon juice, 1 tsp powdered sugar, 1 egg white, and 3 dashes of absinthe. Shake until frothing. Strain into a coupe glass and top with cold seltzer.

To unwind after a long night, I go for an extremely classic choice of Greece: ice cold Ouzo. With a taste of licorice, this liquor is a great way to relax and “feel the breeze coming off the Mediterranean”. In particular, we serve Ouzo Plomari which, when mixed with about 1/4 of ice cold water, transforms magically from crystal clear to an enticing frosted white. It’s a fun party trick, and it’s delicious. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GO-TO SUMMER COCKTAIL INGREDIENTS?

On a hot summer day or night, which Georgia has its share of, I like using fresh mint in our drinks. However, even as a garnish its aroma is revitalizing. An odd one I also love is to use a bit of cream of coconut, which can both sweeten a drink and make me think of relaxing on the beach. And, of course, popping open a great bottle of Le Marca Prosecco never goes amiss. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COCKTAIL?

Our Mythical Mango captures the Caribbean. It’s perfectly sweet and refreshing.

THE COCKTAIL MYTHICAL MANGO In a tall glass combine 3/4 ounce New Amsterdam Pineapple vodka, 1 ounce Cruzan Mango rum, 1 ounce fresh pineapple juice, 1/2 ounce orange juice, and 1/4 ounce lemon juice. Add ice, then shake. Strain into a frosted martini glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

It kind of came naturally. I love to interact with people in a social, intimate environment. IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES A CRAFT COCKTAIL?

A craft cocktail starts with a great base product, fresh ingredients, and a passion to ‘wow’ the customer. It takes time, personal knowledge of flavors, and the will to take the bar experience to the next level. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COCKTAIL?

For this cocktail, I wanted to give an alternative choice to the everyday margarita by using a great product.

THE COCKTAIL JALAPEÑO SKINNY TITORITA In a shaker filled with ice, combine 2 ounces Tito’s vodka, 1/4 ounce organic agave nectar, 2 ounces fresh squeezed lime juice, and 1/2 ounce fresh jalapeño purée. Shake and pour into a glass. Garnish with a slice of jalapeño and a wedge of lime.

My American vodka beats the giant imports every day. Try American! It’s better.

Eighteen years into a legacy of success, Agave Restaurant in the historic Cotton Mill General Store has been feeding Atlanta the best Southwestern fare it’s ever known. Eclectic while appealing to a wide array of tastes, the menu is the work of lauded chef Jack Sobel. Blending Sicilian influences with Mexican and Navajo flavors, Sobel’s culinary program at Agave is unique. But that’s what has created so many loyalists: inimitable Hatch green chile, Guajillo Mussels bearing the citrusy tinge of wine and the herbaceousness of basil, and Barbacoa Beef Enchiladas that call on more traditional flavors of the Southwest while showcasing a decadent red chile mole like none other.

Anis Café & Bistro opened in February of 1994 with the hope of being a casual bistro where people could meet and enjoy light fare with coffee and drinks. Upon becoming an instant hit, Anis was forced to expand, growing into a full-scale dining establishment that locals still love. Converted from a cottage home, this unpretentious Buckhead restaurant feels just like home. Set on a side street, it oozes a romantic, relaxed, and casual atmosphere that will leave you comfortable and happy. The food comes with a French accent, with favorites like the Croque Monsieur, Moules Marinières, and the Filet of Beef “au Poivre.” Their outdoor patio is one of Atlanta’s favorites and a sure-fire hotspot. Made of brick and tree-shaded, it is a superbly romantic and elegant dining option with a wonderful feel. Make a stop in for live music on Thursday and Friday nights. Open for lunch and dinner, Anis Bistro is a taste of Provence in the heart of Buckhead.

What is now the gem of Atlanta—Little Italia—began as a humble pizza spot envisioned by restaurateur Giovanni di Palma. Featured in countless magazines and newspapers, and recently lauded as one of the top pizzas restaurants in the country by “Best. Pizza. Ever.” on The Food Network, Antico Pizza is the very soul of Neapolitan pizza-making. Anchored by three wood-burning ovens—the only way to do Old World pizza right—Antico started a trend for fastcasual, but high-quality pizza stops. Inside, guests can cozy up to communal tables with a glass or two of wine and dig into a classic pie, like the Bianca with fior di latte, ricotta, bufala mozzarella, and pecorino; or one of the much-loved favorites like the San Gennaro with salsiccia, sweet red pepper, bufala mozzarella, and cipollini onions. If you’d rather, pick a piping hot, crispy calzone, also cooked up in the wood-burning ovens. Save room for Homemade Cannoli, made fresh daily, and be sure to plan out your next visit carefully—Antico makes pizza until the dough runs out. Reserve a spot at any Antico’s location—including The Avalon Alpharetta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, The Battery Atlanta, and State Farm Arena—for an unforgettable experience.

Another Guy Wong brainchild, Le Fat is a Vietnamese eatery with a French twist. Unlike traditional Asian restaurant design, the interior at Le Fat pulls from Vietnam’s French colonial influences in an attempt to recapture the beauty, romance, and joie de vivre of French colonial Southeast Asia from the 1920s. On the menu you’ll find chef Wong’s modern interpretation of classic Vietnamese dishes, like Phô, Bun (chilled noodle bowl), Com (rice plate), and more. Diners will enjoy Summer Rolls— slices of pork and shrimp, rice noodles, and mint leaves rolled in a rice paper wrapper; and the Papaya Salad, made with mango, Granny Smith apples, and pickled carrots and daikon, dressed in mint, cilantro, and fish sauce. Favorites include the Soft Shell Crab BLT Bánh Bao with crispy bacon, Bibb lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo in a pillowy bun, and the “Shaking Beef ” which features seared angus, spring lettuce, and watercress served with a jus vinaigrette. The bar shakes and stirs signature cocktails, too, complete with housemade tinctures and shrubs that complement the many layers of flavor and ingredients of Vietnamese cuisine.

Rose & Rye enhances French classics and promotes Southern favorites. With a culinary team that has some serious female muscle, its concept was born from a passion for painting. Located inside an upgraded tri-level building that many locals know as “The Castle,” if the Victorian stone walls could talk, they might whisper memories of live-in families in the ‘20s, or artists’ adventures in the ‘40s. If the menu could talk, it might sing an overall tune of herbs and blossoms—with ingredients from chive flowers, Zeigler honey comb, and turnips to rose water, ginger, and blueberry-rosemary syrup. Discover the story for yourself, in the Red Gravy Shrimp with ginger polenta, garlic tempered oil, and tomato garlic gravy or the Duck Confit with duck leg, cauliflower cream, savory onion jam, and roasted Georgia peaches. Then top it all off with the historically-themed cocktail, Fort Peace, with Four Roses bourbon, lemon, ginger, watermelon, and dill.

It may seem strange to have a spot named BB’s Bronx Bagels on the outskirts of Atlanta, but it truly has found a home in Alpharetta. BB’s launched in 2007 as the brainchild of owners Anna and Eddie Siino. Natives of New York, they found their hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels were extremely popular in Alpharetta—so popular, in fact, that they decided to launch their own business. With these delicious bagels as the centerpiece of the menu, the Siinos created sandwiches that pay homage to breakfast classics, like the Taylor Ham and Egg, lunch standbys like the Grilled Chicken BLT, and burgers. There’s enough to feed any appetite, any time of day, and the menu even includes an impressive array of salads, kids’ treats, and desserts. BB’s is a no-fuss phenomenon that might just tempt you to move next door—it’s that good.

946 Via Montaluce Dahlonega, GA 30533 PH: 706.867.4060 Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm Friday and Saturday 11am-10pm

Just north of Atlanta, in Dahlonega, Georgia, a visit to Montaluce Winery & Restaurant is worth it for the beautiful view of the vineyards and Tuscan-style architecture alone. Come for a wine hike (on Saturday or Sunday) on nature trails winding through the vineyard and along the headwaters of the Etowah River, ending with a tasting of five Montaluce wines. Or, learn about their wines with a private tasting, guided by one of their in-house sommeliers. The restaurant is also open for lunch, brunch, and dinner for one of chef Chris Matson’s superb plates— pointedly Southern with a wonderfully fresh and skillful European touch. The Rabbit Duet with confit rabbit leg, roasted rabbit loin, baby carrots, pearl onions, Montaluce signature bacon, and rabbit jus is an excellent example of chef Matson’s talent. Montaluce will give you the beauty of Tuscany, the experience of Sonoma, and the hospitality of the South!

KAYA VINEYARD & WINERY Located at a slightly higher elevation, Kaya’s winery and tasting room offers an incredible panoramic view of the North Georgia mountains. The facility features large windows and a covered back deck that makes it the perfect venue for pairing live music with good wine. All of the wines here are produced exclusively from estate-grown grape varietals, including viognier, albariño, merlot, petit verdot, malbec, and sangiovese. After being hand-harvested, the fruit is processed in their facility on the property and then aged in their climate-controlled barrel room located below the tasting room. In addition to crafting signature wines—notable for their distinct balance between wood and fruit characteristics—the goal here is to also provide an educational experience for guests and an engaging environment for their team of winemakers. “Customer service is our top priority,” says Marketing Manager Emily Holt. “We believe how we manage our staff correlates to how we will treat our guests. We are a very close-knit and family-oriented team.” The familial vibe effortlessly reaches Kaya’s visitors through wine tours, tastings, and live music along with the full lunch menu and four cottages available onsite. Additionally, less than a mile down the road, Kaya’s sister property, Dahlonega Resort and Vineyard, offers lodging, a full restaurant, a spa, and an event space.
