Newcastle

Newcastle is Australia’s second oldest city and a region rich with unique history. Following European settlement, Newcastle became a penal station, a steel city, a coal town and today it is NSW’s second largest city. Newcastle is renowned for its beautiful beaches; Nobbys, Newcastle, Bar, Dixon Park, Merewether and Stockton and are all within 5km of the CBD. All seven beaches are patrolled and offer your family a safe place to surf, swim and have fun. With these pristine beaches and spectacular coastlines, the area has been marked with the creation of ‘Bathers Way’, a five kilometre coastal walk that starts at Nobbys and finishes at Merewether Beach. Experiencing the Bathers Way should be a “must” during any visit to Newcastle however, if you would prefer to swim in an enclosure there is always the protection of our ocean baths, overlooking the majestic blue waters for you to cool off in. The Harbours edge better known as the boardwalk or foreshore is located along Honey Suckle Drive and is the perfect place for a relaxing family picnic or gathering. With large expanses of grassy parklands, you can mingle with the many people who flock to the area every day for recreational activities such as kite flying, roller blading, jogging, fishing and bike riding or simply to just sit and relax while watching the massive bulk carriers navigating the harbour and busy tugs playing the waters.
