Microsoft Office fixes four security vulnerabilities

Cyber Security firms pointed Microsoft Office vulnerabilities to checkpoint research in a tool called MSGraph, which was in use by the office suite since 1995.

According to cybersecurity firms, Microsoft needs to update Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office as the office suite has just received important critical security patches to fix four security flaws. www.digitalsoftwaremarket.com

Previously the security flaws in Microsoft office were identified which showed that an attacker can take control of a computer, read and access files — and even install ransomware on it, locking its files behind a password until a specified sum of money is paid, mostly in cryptocurrency.

The flaws were identified in a tool found in the Microsoft Office software called MSGraph. www.digitalsoftwaremarket.com

They are using the office suite since 1995 and it is extremely old. The vulnerabilities are the result of mistakes made in legacy code found in Excel95 File Formats, giving researchers reason to believe that the security flaws have existed for several years.

Microsoft Office vulnerabilities are very common, the large codebase has expanded to add new features and functions over the years. The company regularly updates its software for performance improvement and security fixes like the recently issued update to fix the security flaws detected by the security firm. Several flaws have been discovered by “fuzzing” MSGraph which is used to display charts and graphs inside the Microsoft Office suite. www.digitalsoftwaremarket.com

Fuzzing is a technique to automatically find coding errors and security loopholes in software by randomly feeding invalid and unexpected data inputs into a program, to discover software bugs that can be exploited. For the reinforcement of the security flaws, users will have to visit window updates. In order to stay protected from the new security flaws follow the following steps:

Click on the start button and then go to the settings, click on updates and security, and then click on windows updates. www.digitalsoftwaremarket.com

Check for updates manually on the main screen, then go to Advanced options and select the Automatic option under Choose how updates are installed.

Restart your system after the updates have been installed. Although only four vulnerabilities have been spotted till now, there can be zillion others that are yet to be identified. Windows users are highly recommended to update their software immediately as there are numerous attack vectors possible by an attacker who triggers the vulnerabilities that are being found.
