ILLUSTRIOUS SIR JASON R. TRIGGS POTENTATE OF ALZAFAR SHRINERS There is something always going on at Alzafar and the month of May was definitely a great example of that. The month was started off by wowing the crowds in the annual Cornyval parade in Helotes. Later that evening, Noble Bob Tucker and I made the trek to Kerrville and were greeted with warm hospitality at this year’s annual TSRVA trail ride which was hosted by the Alzafar RV Club. It was a great time being able to catch up with and meet Nobles and their Ladies from across the state. If you own an RV, the Alzafar RV Club is a must to check out. The Directors Staff hosted a boot scootin' great time at their annual Country Hoedown. Good food, good music, and lots of camaraderie. What else could you ask for during a beautiful evening? The following weekend we found ourselves in the middle of the best car show in all of San Antonio hosted by the Alzafar Antique Carriage Unit. There were 161 vehicles registered for the competition with an additional 30-40 that arrived after the registration cutoff. Through the great work and dedication of the unit, this car show gets bigger every year. Next time you see any of the members be sure to congratulate them on another record breaking year. Lastly, the month was closed out as we tore through the streets of Bandera during their Memorial Day parade and afterward continued the celebration weekend at Camp Alzafar during this year’s ceremonial “Camp Opening”, signifying the beginning of summer activities at Camp Alzafar. I cannot wait to see all the great things the camp officers have in store for us this summer. A lot of time and effort is put in to making these events successful and Lady Cynthia and I are so blessed and thankful to be a part of Alzafar and among all of the great Nobles and Ladies that make it happen. You all truly make Alzafar the envy of all other Shrines. I am proud of all of you and proud to call myself and Alzafar Shriner.

While thinking Circus please keep membership in mind. Circus is a great way to showcase our Fraternity. Please remember we need members to stay alive and great members become lifelong friends. Please be on the lookout for like minded individuals.

CHIEF RABBAN Eric A. DeWalt Please be on the lookout for like minded individuals. As I look back, I have many fond memories of our Shrine Circus. I can remember as far back as when my dad “BUDRO” the clown spent weeks at the circus, YES weeks. Our Shrine Circus was three weeks long. I must have been around 10 years old, my son Sammy’s age now, and I can remember sitting at the very top row on the very highest section of the Joe Freeman Coliseum. The Shriners all knew my dad and I could not get away with anything. Boy those were the days without a care in the world. Later in life, now as a Dad, I took my family to see the Circus. I was so proud to sit with my family and say, “I used to be a Shrine kid.” My wife asked why I didn’t follow in dad’s footsteps and I said, maybe I will one day. I leaned over to a nearby clown and asked if he happened to know an old clown named BUDRO. Little did I know that I was talking to Chris Jennings “JOJO” the clown. He exclaimed, “why yes I know him he’s a great clown.” I stated he was my dad and in no time I had a Shrine membership petition in my hand. One year later, I was in the center ring with all my Shrine friends. I had Clowns to the left and jokers to the right... I was one of the boys. Not to mention, my kids walked around like they owned the place. They were now Shrine kids. Fast forward a few years and the nostalgia had worn dull a bit because now it has gotten real for me. The Nobility has elected me to help lead this organization into the future. I want all the Nobility to know that is exactly where we are headed, into the future. All I ask of the Nobility, is to cherish these times. When looking back I want the smile on your face to be the thing you remember most. Circus Circus Circus. Three big words to remember. I have been visiting units and asking for their support on selling ads and also bicycle donations for the kids at the circus. Many Units have already given monetary contributions for the purchasing of bicycles and some Nobles have already handed in ad sales and Buck-a Line. This is a great way to make money for the Temple, your Unit or Club.

ASSISTANT RABBAN RAMBLINGS Marty Bartlett Anyone can hold a golf tournament on a sunny day, but the Shriners know how to throw one in the middle of a thunderstorm! It was a soggy, cold golf tournament, but we had a great time anyway. It was a sellout at 36 golf teams. About 30 teams showed up (but we already had the money from the others) and played in the rain, with 22 teams finishing all 18 holes. Apparently not everyone enjoys holding an umbrella in one hand a golf club in the other. We tried to keep people warm by driving shots around to them, but the real party started when the bar opened up and dinner was served. Some pretty cool prizes were given out for the longest drive, closest to the pin and the top three teams, but my favorite prize went to the team with the worst score. They received ladies tennis trophies and golf lessons. I always knew my daughter’s old tennis trophies would come in handy some day. Special thanks go out to a great team of volunteers that included Warren Studdard, Larry Hamilton, Rich Thompson, Bobb Todd, Dusty and Gladys Gonzalez, George and Alice Robbins, Bob and Cheryl Jones, Eric and Suzy Dewalt, Jan Hadley, Marti Amos, Mike Duplantis, Bill Liles, Beverly Jorgenson, Joe Urby, Jon Matthew Urby, Alex Collado, Cindy Beck, Broadway Bank volunteers and especially my wife, Martha, who made the silent auction amazing. We won’t know until next month regarding how we did, since we are still drying out all of the wet money. I hope it will be a good number to report back to you then so that we can say our “Driving for Dollars and Putting for kids, so ya’ll Chip in” event was a success.

HIGH PRIEST & PROPHET Travis Elmendorf

ORIENTAL GUIDE Robert Norman II

Hello Alzafar. Hope that this finds you and yours well and in good health. As you make your way thru our Temple, do you happen to hear that deep, continuous, resonating sound? That’s the Alzafar Machine moving through 2018. With half the year behind us, we have done a substantial amount of work with much more to come.

Robert Orben once said “Time Flies. It’s up to you to be the Navigator”. I feel Alzafar has navigated this year just right. The Shrine as a whole has been very busy and to think we are only at the half way mark of 2018.

I would like to begin by giving praise to the Assistant Rabban and his Lady Martha, the Committee, the Alzafar Golf Unit and all others who helped with the Alzafar Charity Golf Tourney. Well done and congratulations on this great enterprise. If you have never experienced the effort or assisted with the production of such an undertaking; the commitment, the exertion and the struggle is a sight to behold (We are always looking for Committee members and volunteers). On top of all that, on the day of, Mother Nature decides to play a part. Marty and team still carried the day, tremendous effort. Kudos and back pats. In little over two months Alzafar, will be hosting its annual Full Form Ceremonial. The outline is being put together and soon to be fleshed out. At this time, I would like to make a call out for assistance. Assistance in reaching out to the Nobles who have entered our beloved Fraternity this year so far. One of you Nobles signed their petition. Let’s get them active and motivated. More information on the Ceremonial soon. Save the date- Saturday 11 August 2018. Charles A. Ray- “Perception is merely reality filtered through the prism of your soul.” Or you may have heard it in its abbreviated version- “Perception is reality”; which means- “the way a person sees the world is their truth, regardless of whether or not the conclusions are factually accurate or not.” Nobles ask the questions; you will get the answers. Following assumptions, perceptions and unfounded gossip does nothing but cause derision and confusion. Till I see you when I see you- HP&P Out

Congratulations to our Assistant Rabban, Marty Bartlett and Lady Martha, as well as their entire team for pulling off the 37th Annual Charitable Hospital Golf Tournament. There were a lot of golfers out to take on the course and the weather that day. For that, we are thankful. I know they had a tough decision to make, whether to go forward and play or cancel and reschedule the event. It was another very successful event put on by our Nobility. Thank you to everyone that took part in the planning, execution, and participation in the Golf Tournament. The following day was another opportunity for Alzafar Shrine to show the public how proud we are as we staged ourselves in the street for the Helotes Cornyval Parade. We had a lot of Shriners in attendance as well as our ladies and children. The Cornyval Parade is always a great parade for a small town within San Antonio. It’s great to see the units having a great time and making even better memories. The Director Staff held their annual Hoe Down followed by the Antique Carriage Unit hosting their Antique Car Show. Both of these events were huge successes and once again putting Alzafar Shrine out on center stage. Congratulations to these two units and a huge round of applause to the units and clubs that stepped up and helped out these units continue their annual fundraisers. Job well done. To think those are just four major events that took place in May. June will be another great month for Alzafar as the units will pack up their gear and head to Tyler to compete with other Shrine Centers in Texas at the Texas Shrine Associate meeting and competition. As a Past Potentate once said, “let’s get them trophies”!!! June is now upon us. I would like to congratulate the outgoing Worshipful Masters for a successful year in your respected Lodges. Over the next month, Lodges will hold their elections, prepare for installations, and

install their new leaders. This will start new beginnings, ideas and fellowship. To the newly elected Worshipful Masters, congratulations to you, for being given the honor and privilege of leading your lodge over the next year. I wish you nothing but the best. There is something very special about serving your Lodge as Worshipful Masters. Enjoy every moment of your time in the East, it will be over before you know it. I challenge you to, “Be a Stepping Stone and not a Stumbling Block”.

RECORDERS CORNER T-Bone Tommy Leverett

TREASURERS OFFICE Ron Trine Here we are in June and TSA was amazing, with many trophies brought back to San Antonio. By now you know that our Hospital Transportation Fund has been depleted and as such, the hospitals are now having to cover all costs associated transportation and housing for our patients. While we continue to help anywhere possible, we simply have no financial capability. Next fundraiser up will be the Hospital Gala in October, which we are in hopes, will generate enough to get us back on track. In the mean time, any units wishing to have a charitable fundraiser are encouraged to do so, with the HTF being the benefactor. A quick reminder, for anyone wishing to purchase a cabin at camp, please be reminded the transaction must be completed at the temple, such to insure all paperwork is handled correctly to transfer ownership, leases are paid up to date, along with reporting forms to Kendall County for taxes. Additionally, this is where the new owner will receive camp by-laws and rules. Please make it easier on all involved and do this at the office. We don’t care about your financial arrangements; we need to honor the process, for the benefit to all. Please continue to support your local Blue Lodges, each other, our Hospitals and your 2018 Divan as we proceed through another exciting and challenging year for Alzafar. I hope you have a very safe and fun filled Summer. A wise man once said: “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world”. Robin Williams

It’s raining, it’s pouring, and the Old Shrine Center is LEAKING! The Building Maintenance Committee has four bids coming in to stop the leaks. The most promising proposal is a company that feels like we can ask our insurance company to reexamine the roof. Today they use drones with cameras in addition to personally inspecting the roof. If they are not success and we have to pay for a new roof we are looking at quotes close to one million dollars. How many kids can we transport to our Shrine Hospitals with that kind of money? By the time you read this article we will probably be a TSA in Tyler. I sure miss my days of competing on the motorcycle with the Motor Patrol. I am optimistic that one day we can put a team together to compete again. There is always the Golf Unit I could compete with at TSA. After being gone from the game of golf for over 10 years, I dusted off the clubs and played in the 2018 Alzafar Shrine Charity Golf Tournament. Many thanks to Marty Bartlett, the Golf Unit and the Team of volunteers for putting on a great tournament. Not one person complained about the rain. All I heard was today was about raising money for the Shrine Kids. 20 Years of dedicated service to Alzafar. We have been blessed to have Carol Kintigh with us for 20 years. On June 8th, Carol will reach her 20 year mark. Not many people today can say they have been with the same company for 20 years. Give her a call at 210-496-1625 or send her an email at carolalzafar@gmail.com. In addition to all the other duties, Carol always makes corrections to my articles for the Achbar. After Carol makes her changes to my article, you will never know I’m an Aggie! Come out and join us at the next event or Shrine parade or fund raiser and find out why I say “Alzafar Rocks”!

ANTIQUE CARRIAGE By: Rick “Tater” Reyes The gearheads are back again and we’re revving up for what’s looking like our best car show ever. We’ve been so blessed to have so many people pitch in and assist this year and by the time you read this article, the event would have gone off without a hitch. We have so many people, business owners, and units to thank for all their support. We are extremely grateful for our Shrine’s very own Hot Sands BBQ unit for stepping up and supporting our event by cooking the food. They truly know what it means to be a brother and a noble and we are grateful for all they do. Our show to date has one Gold Sponsor who deserves a huge thank you for their support. A&E Classic Cars out of New Braunfels stepped up when we needed them and made a generous donation to the event. If you find yourself in need of a classic car, service on an existing car, or consignment for your classic car, please make sure you stop by their shop at 6401 Interstate 35 South in New Braunfels. Make sure you tell them thank you for their support of our car show. Our car show had two Silver Sponsors this year. The Taco House on San Pedro and Alamo City Golf Cars located off of IH 10 and Hildebrand. The Taco House is down San Pedro, just before the San Pedro driving range on the right. If you find yourself with some time and you’re looking for a great meal and traditional San Antonio Cuisine, please try your best to stop in to the Taco House. Make sure you tell them thank you for supporting our Shrine while you’re there. The Alamo City Golf Cars is located at 1236 W. Hildebrand. They are a golf cart dealer and service center right here in San Antonio. They have brand new and used carts along with lease and rentals available. There are electric carts available for those of you looking for a new ride at Camp Alzafar and they have gas powered carts for those looking for the lease or your neighborhood golf course. They also have a staff of top notch service representatives to trouble shoot any issue you may be having with your current cart. Make sure you stop by and tell them thanks for the support. 1236 W Hildebrand Ave. We would also like to thank all of our bronze level sponsors who made this year’s car show one we won’t soon forget. We had multiple friends and family members of the Shrine, step up and donate funds to make sure the event was a blast and we truly appreciate the support. Lastly, please make sure to drop by for our June unit meeting which is the 3 rd Tuesday of the month. We’d love to share how the event went with everyone.

THE BAND By: Richard Wallace

BOERNE SHRINE CLUB By: Miguel A. Inclan, Jr.

We missed last month because we were asleep. Our annual performance at the Grand Master’s Commemoration at the Alamo was well received, but was saddened by the absence of Noble Jim Higdon. Band members participating at this event were Billy Steele, Beth Packer, Emilio Casarez, Bonnie Versoza, Don Frantz, Jim Blunt, Chuck Thompson, Steve Nail, Richard Wallace, and Robert Packer. Emilio Casarez and Bonnie Versoza performed Silver Taps as Grand Master Tommy Chapman and his Lady placed the Commemorative Wreath in front of the Alamo.

The Boerne Shrine Club would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone that participated in any way in our Street Collection this past April 21st. Despite the bad weather, you came out to support our cause. By the time you read this we will have presented the check and the amount will be announced at the Stated Meeting of June 14th. I know that the patients and their families who rely on the Transportation Fund to make their trips to the Shrine Hospitals in Houston and Galveston will be even more thankful than I am for your help.

After the performance at the Alamo the band played at the Masonic Youth Brunch. The members participating at this event were Billy Steele, Beth Packer, Tom Kopcho, Emilio Casarez, Bonnie Versoza, Don Frantz, Chuck Thompson, Richard Wallace, Steve Nail, and Robert Packer.

We are already making preparations to add a Fall Street Collection to keep raising funds for our transportation fund and to raise awareness of our cause.

We would like to welcome new Noble Oscar Reyes who will be joining us on trumpet and returning band member, Noble Ernest Ramirez also on trumpet. We are always looking for more performers, especially woodwinds, low brass, and percussion. We meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm until 7:30pm in Room 7. Come on by good music and good fellowship, a combination that’s hard to beat. If you have any questions, please call Richard Wallace at 210-219-6861 or email at rfwall@swbell.net.

If you live in Kendall County or in the northwest side of Bexar County I strongly suggest you come and join our club. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. If you want to know where we will next meet, please give me a call at the Alzafar Office at 210-496-1625.

BREWS BROTHERS By: Russell Brown

BURNING SUN By: Tony Calderon

Again I extend you greetings from the Brews Brothers, Alzafar Shrine’s newest unit. Have you ever brewed beer before? If not, do you like to drink beer? Would you enjoy hanging out with Noble Brothers and learn a new craft? Doesn’t matter if you are a master home brewer, or just like to have a beer every once in a while, we would love for you to join us in the ancient craft of brewing beer. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:30 in Room 5, c’mon by and raise a pint with us.

Start your engines Nobles! It’s your very own Burning Sun Unit once again and let me tell you we are moving right along. We are doing our best to keep riders in karts and the parade crowd out of their seats. With a number of parades and events behind us, we continue to look forward for more opportunities to ride. We hope all the Mother’s had a wonderful day filled with love and happiness, because without them we wouldn’t be the Shriners we are today. Summer time is on us and we want everyone to be safe and enjoy their time with the ones they love.

Our unit is about more than just brewing beer for competition, or the basic consumption of beer, but education about beer as well. Do you know the difference between a Pilsner and a Lager? Or a Pale Ale and an IPA? One of the things we have been doing is bringing two similar brews to each meeting so that we can understand more about different styles. We had our second brew on May 5th after the Cornyval Parade. Trying something new, we brewed a summer blonde ale. Keep an eye out, it may just make an appearance somewhere around Independence Day. As always, we will be presenting our brews for the Nobility to taste, we only ask that you give us your honest opinion, we are a competitive unit, and need to perfect our craft so we can start bringing some awards back to Alazafar. Here's to it, and from it, and to it again. You better do it to it when you get to it because you may never get to it, to do it to it, again.

So if you are looking for speed, excitement, along with family fun come meet with us, every 2nd Wednesday of the month starting with quick social at 6:30 pm followed by the meeting at 7:00 pm room 5. We’ll save a seat for you.

CANYON LAKE SHRINE CLUB By: Tom Gilbert The Canyon Lake Shrine Club met on April 9, 2018. President David Mulholland welcomed everyone. The members said the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. and Texas flags. Our guest speaker was State Senator Donna Campbell. She is an emergency room physician, and has been state senator for six years. She is chairman of the Veterans Affair and Border Security. Some of the issues she has helped with in the senate is to help veterans to transition from military life to civilian life, and help with mental health. She likes to know from the local level how they can improve government. They want to look at a problem and see what they can do to help. She talked about hurricane Harvey and how devastating it was, with loss of property and loss of taxes. Money is needed to repair roads, bridges and infra-structure. One good thing about Texas is that unemployment is low. She also thanked all Shriners for what they do for the children. She also answered all questions from the members. President Mulholland reported that the Canyon Lake Shrine Club will have a silent auction fundraiser in Oct. Noble Steve White reported that in 2017 the Burn Center treated 217 patients from the U.S., 82 from Mexico, and 11 from other countries. Some Shrine hospitals are merging and they will be using telehealth medicine and clinics to save money and to save children. He also reported that they will have a meeting with officials in Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, and airport officials so they can better facilitate the transportation of patients between borders. Please join us on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Canyon Lake Golf Club, 405 Watts Lane, Canyon Lake, TX. For more information, call President, David Mulholland at 830-964-5487 or Secretary, Tom Gilbert at 830-899-4839.

HONOR GUARD By: Al Aranda We are sure that all of our Ladies had a super Mother’s Day as they were all served breakfast in bed. Now all the Nobles will get the same on Father’s Day, as a return favor. DIRECTORS STAFF By: Miguel Inclan Our Directors Staff County Hoedown was a resounding success and we thank each and every person that not only attended but also those who worked behind the scenes to put this together. Without you, this event would not have been possible. Whenever you see a member of the Directors Staff, please thank them because the work that they do not just in the temple but also in parades and the like is incredible. The Directors Staff once again lost a great Noble with the passing of Noble Ed Lee. Noble Lee was a hardworking member of our staff and we participated in a Celebration of Life in the Terrace Room this past May 6. We are gearing up for TSA in June and we look forward to representing Alzafar with the pride and excellence that denotes us. Have a great start of Summer!

Need to thank the lineups at the Helotes Parade, the Celebration of Life for Noble Lee, the Stated Meeting and the Bandera Parade. Had a super time at the 11th street gathering as always. By the time we read the Achbar, we would have already been to TSA and back. Need to thank Noble John Mauro for being the pilot to and from TSA. Nobles before we know it, the 29th of September will be upon us and that is the day we’ll be having the Shrine Toberfest in the Terrace room from 11:30 am2:00 pm. The plate will consist of 2 Brats, kraut, German style potato salad and roll for a price of $12, all this will be provided by the Hot Sands BBQ team; deserts are being provided by the Daughters of the Nile, the Brew Brothers will be brewing some “Oktober Fest” style beer for donations, the Pretzel Benders, Shrine Band will provide the music, plus many more things. This is a collaboration between the Honor guard, Hot Sands, Daughters of the Nile, Brew Brothers, Shrine Band to raise money to help out the Hospital Transportation Fund. Come one and come all to enjoy the fest. May the Great Architect put his arms around all of us to keep us safe and in good health.

In addition, the club approved new baseball caps with the Hill Country Shrine Club logo. We are looking forward to participating in the upcoming Memorial Weekend Parade in Bandera. We invite any Nobles in the area to join us for our monthly meeting on the first Monday of each month at 11:30 am. We meet at the Inn of the Hills, 1001 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. The best path to increase our Shrine membership is by working with and in your lodges. I encourage you to do this for the betterment of the mother lodge and the ability to sustain our fraternity.

Our prayers for a speedy and safe return of our combat troops where ever dispersed around the globe. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month in room 4 at the Alzafar Shrine beginning at 1300 hrs. We look forward seeing you.

NEMNUF By: Rick “Tater” Reyes Well the month of May is upon us and we are having a blast in the NEMNUF unit. Our most recent adventure was meandering the streets of San Antonio for the Fiesta Flambeau Parade and the streets of Helotes for the Cornyval Parade. We had more clowns in attendance than in previous years and boy was it fun. The NEMNUF unit, along with the rest of Shrine would like to send a huge shout out to our very own Chief Rabban, Noble Eric “Wet-O” DeWalt for allowing us to tailgate at his office for the Flambeau. Aside from parades, the NEMNUF clowns were busy in Boerne participating in the Shrine’s annual hospital collection day. It rained throughout most of the day but we still showed up in force. That just goes to show, rain or shine, the NEMNUF’s are there for the Shrine. Our most recent unit meeting was well attended with more than 30 clowns and tag-a-longs in attendance. Please remember, if you’d like to come check out our unit, we meet the 2 nd Monday of the month with a meal at 6:30pm and the meeting starting at 7:30pm. We hope to see yall there. Until next time…. Bump a Nose, Rick “Tater” Reyes 2018 NEMNUF President

Communication. As humans we generally think we can communicate verbally with other humans. Some people can talk to animals. I have talked to animals myself with mixed results. I know that 90% of the time my dog understands me. Then why does she only do what I tell her 10% of the time? My experience as a field and platform instructor would indicate my ability to communicate to other humans. Then why does my spouse not understand when I say " I'm sorry honey"? Language can also be a barrier. I once wrote an apartment ad in English for my German landlord. I indicated in the ad that the apartment had a kitchen. My landlords neighbors had a good laugh when they saw the ad. Seems kitchen is a German word for jail! I didn't learn very much Vietnamese during my Government all expense paid vacation there. Many words were mash ups of English and Vietnamese. One of my favorites was "no bic". The correct pronouncement went something like "cope bilk". But no bic worked for anything from; don't understand, no can do, no way, forget it Charley Brown, ain't gonna happen. At last night's closed meeting of the Shrine membership, that expression came to me following the vote to take further action to sell Alzafar. NO BIC! Overheard from a elected official; "Boy, I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize".

ALZAFAR ROD & GUN CLUB By: Secretary Craig Noyes Hello everyone. I will start this newsletter speaking about a Fishing Trip I proposed several months back of trying out some Kayak Fishing at the Light House Trails State Park near Port Aransas. Kayaks can be rented for $40.00 for a half day or with a Guide for $400.00 for 4 people for a half day. Either would be fun. Some of the older members have said they would like to fish out of a boat and that can be arranged also, if anyone is interested speak to me at our meeting. I also would like to propose that the Rod & Gun Club maybe get some range time in at a local range. I checked online with Mission Ridge Gun Store and Indoor Range about shooting at their range but, it is very expensive. A good alternative would be A Place to Shoot on the south side of town as they are reasonable and are not too crowded most of the time. If anyone is interested, should please contact me.

The Karem Shrine will be hosting the 2019 event. The June rally will be held at the Schulenburg RV Park in Schulenburg, and our July rally will be held at the Peach Country RV Park in Stonewall. If you have a RV and want to have a lot of fun in a relaxed atmosphere with Brother Nobles and their Ladies, come out and rally with us. I know you will have a great time. Call Wagon Master Jim Miller (210) 415-4358 or assistant Wagon Master Dave Brewton (210) 643-0314 for information about the next rally. You can always call me at (210) 6797356. SENIORS By: Roger Hopkins The Alzafar Seniors meet on Thursday, May 3rd in the Parlors with 46 members and guests in attendance.

I would also like to bring up about our Widow’s and that we would love to have you at our meetings. Come to the meetings and be among friends and your meal will be paid for by the Rod & Gun Club. You are always welcome.

The meeting was opened by our President, Noble Earl "Tex" Phillips followed by some entertaining remarks and an invocation by our Chaplain, Noble Donald P. Garrido PP. We then rendered honors to the America and Texas Flags.

I have more sad news about another member that has passed away and has been taken to the Celestial Lodge Above. Noble Ed Lee was a long time member and made most meetings when he was feeling well. He will be missed by the members, so we should all keep Pat and family in our prayers. The Rod & Gun Club has made a donation of $50.00 in Ed’s name to benefit the Transportation Fund and the patients that we support. That is about all I have to say now. Thank you and I will see everyone in July.

We discussed those members in sickness and distress and recognized our Past Potentate, Noble Donald P. Garrido, and past Masters and members of our numerous affiliated groups.

RV CLUB By: Dave Browne

The Methodist Church Kitchen Band of Windcrest, composed of senior members from the ages of 70 to 100, entertained us with their dances and music played with kitchen utensils. Tinie Riggs introduced the group to our membership.

The April & May rallies were held at the South Llano River RV Resort in Junction and The Old River Road RV Resort near Kerrville. The South Llano River RV Resort is right on the Llano. This is the first time our club rallied at this park. We had a marvelous time at this rally. Many spent time exploring Junction and the surrounding area. They have some neat shops to browse through, and plenty of restaurants for almost every taste. There were some nice shade trees where we got out the chairs and relaxed and visited. Everyone loved the park and I am sure we will return to this site. The second rally at the Old River Road RV Resort was the site of the annual TSRVA event which Alzafar hosted. We had a great time visiting with our brother Nobles and their Lady’s from other Shrines. There were four Shrines represented at this event. We had catered meals and entertainment at the rally. Thanks to the Ladies who put in a lot of work and kept the cookies and coffee stocked every day. We had an awards ceremony where the winners of the games received their metals. Thanks to Illustrious Sir Jason Triggs, for attending and helping award the winners.

The members that had a birthday in the month of May were also recognized. After a Treasurer's report that we are still solvent, we went to our program.

We then enjoyed a great lunch of Chicken Fried Steak with white sauce, mashed potatoes, corn, and bread from Denny's Restaurant, provided by Jerry and Bonny Hopkins. Delicious desserts were provided by Lydia Garrido and Mary Sue Cox. An active discussion was held by the members regarding the future speakers at our meetings. The President informed the membership that the speakers at our meetings need to be cleared thru our Vice President Dan Coburn, who will keep a list of the speakers for each month so that there will not be a conflict with having several speakers on the same month. Our President Tex Phillips, announced that he and his wife Sandra will bring turkey pot pie, salad and iced tea to our next meeting in June. A final benediction was given by our Chaplain and everyone departed into a beautiful sunny day. We look forward to seeing many of you at our next meeting scheduled to take place in the Parlors on June 7th.
