CANYON LAKE SHRINE CLUB By: Tom Gilbert The Canyon Lake Shrine Club met on April 9, 2018. President David Mulholland welcomed everyone. The members said the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. and Texas flags. Our guest speaker was State Senator Donna Campbell. She is an emergency room physician, and has been state senator for six years. She is chairman of the Veterans Affair and Border Security. Some of the issues she has helped with in the senate is to help veterans to transition from military life to civilian life, and help with mental health. She likes to know from the local level how they can improve government. They want to look at a problem and see what they can do to help. She talked about hurricane Harvey and how devastating it was, with loss of property and loss of taxes. Money is needed to repair roads, bridges and infra-structure. One good thing about Texas is that unemployment is low. She also thanked all Shriners for what they do for the children. She also answered all questions from the members. President Mulholland reported that the Canyon Lake Shrine Club will have a silent auction fundraiser in Oct. Noble Steve White reported that in 2017 the Burn Center treated 217 patients from the U.S., 82 from Mexico, and 11 from other countries. Some Shrine hospitals are merging and they will be using telehealth medicine and clinics to save money and to save children. He also reported that they will have a meeting with officials in Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, and airport officials so they can better facilitate the transportation of patients between borders. Please join us on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Canyon Lake Golf Club, 405 Watts Lane, Canyon Lake, TX. For more information, call President, David Mulholland at 830-964-5487 or Secretary, Tom Gilbert at 830-899-4839.
