The RSM Classic Talor Gooch celebrates his first PGA TOUR victory by winning The RSM Classic at Sea Island’s Seaside Course, finishing in style with a 64 on Sunday.
Notable Course Features Natural features such as marshes and sandy waste areas figure prominently in the Seaside layout. Both come into play on the par-4 13th, which bends between a marsh on the left and a sandy area along with conventional bunkers on the right, with a stunning backdrop behind the green. HOW TALOR GOOCH WON
Talor Gooch built a three-stroke lead with scores of 65-67 in the windy conditions of the second and third rounds, and ended up winning by three with a 64 in calmer weather on Sunday. The 30-year-old scored his first PGA TOUR victory by not making a bogey in the final round and making birdies on four of the first six holes on the back nine for a comfortable cushion. Gooch made only two bogeys on the week, one each in the second and third rounds. Gooch ranked T52 in hitting fairways, but was T4 in Greens in Regulation Percentage (83.33).
CHECK THIS OUT Talor Gooch was the sixth consecutive 36-hole leader/co-leader to win The RSM Classic and the sixth of the last seven 54-hole leaders/coleaders. Gooch was the seventh player in the 12 years of the event to make The RSM Classic his first career victory. Gooch’s 22-under winning total of 260 tied the tournament record set by Kevin Kisner in 2015. Two players tied the tournament 18-hole record of 60—Sebastián Muñoz in the first round and Tyler McCumber in the final round.
