Wells Fargo Championship Max Homa lets the emotions pour out after making a par putt to secure his first PGA TOUR victory at the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship.

George Cobb was the original designer of Quail Hollow Club, laying out the course in 1961 on a former dairy farm. Arnold Palmer modified selected holes in 1986. Tom Fazio made some changes around 2003 and again in preparation for the 2017 PGA Championship. Yardage: 7,554; par 71.

HOW MAX HOMA WON

Max Homa was in a three-way tie for the lead entering the final round and pulled away with a closing 67 to claim his first PGA TOUR victory at age 28. The 2013 NCAA individual champion took control around the turn, with birdies on 10 and 11 to go ahead by four strokes, and ended up winning by three.  Homa ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting at 2.472 per round and had no three-putts.  Homa’s second-round 63 and fourth-round 67 both matched the low score of the day.

Champions For Education, the tournament’s charitable arm, has donated more than $24 million to local and regional charitable organizations.

The finishing stretch of three holes, known as the “Green Mile,” ranked as the three hardest holes on the course in 2019. The 506-yard, par-4 16th, with a green guarded by water to the left, was the third toughest. The par-3 17th, at 223 yards, has water on three sides and was the hardest. The 494-yard 18th, second in difficulty, has a creek all the way up the left.

CHECK THIS OUT  Max Homa became the fifth player to make the Wells Fargo Championship his first PGA TOUR victory, joining Anthony Kim (2008), Rory McIlroy (2010), Rickie Fowler (2012) and Derek Ernst (2013).  Homa’s 72-hole total of 269 was the second best in the history of the event (McIlroy, 267 in 2015).  Justin Rose has finished in the top five in his last three appearances (5th/2014; 3rd/2016; 3rd/2019).
