“I managed to keep my head, though I did get a little bit frustrated.” — Tyrrell Hatton
HOW TYRRELL HATTON WON
20 20
The closing hole at Bay Hill has been known for producing dramatic moments. The 458-yard par 4 requires a second shot to a narrow kidney-shaped green that wraps around a lake. While a difficult hole, it has seen such heroics as Robert Gamez holing out for an eagle to win in 1990 and Tiger Woods three times making birdie to win by one stroke.
England’s Tyrrell Hatton gives a cheery wave to the fans following his first PGA TOUR triumph at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard at Bay Hill Club & Lodge.
CHECK THIS OUT Tyrrell Hatton of England was the fifth consecutive international winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, following Jason Day (2016) and Marc Leishman (2017) of Australia, Rory McIlroy (2018) of Northern Ireland and Francesco Molinari (2019) of Italy. Hatton was the first player to win a tournament with two over-par rounds on the weekend since Geoff Ogilvy at the 2006 U.S. Open. Leishman finished second to add to prior finishes at Bay Hill of first (2017) and third (2011).
England’s Tyrrell Hatton recovered from a double bogey on the 11th hole with seven straight pars down the stretch to shoot a 74 on a day of tough conditions and win by one stroke over Marc Leishman. Hatton was tied for the halfway lead after opening with 68-69 and moved ahead by himself through 54 holes with a 73 as scores soared in the third round. Hatton ranked second in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green with 1.817 per round. Hatton led the field in Par 3 Scoring average at 2.88.
