TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
JANUARY 14-17, 2021
Sony Open in Hawaii
Location & Course Information
HONOLULU, HAWAII WAIALAE COUNTRY CLUB Seth Raynor designed Waialae Country Club in 1927, creating a strategically challenging layout featuring a number of dogleg holes. Nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Waialae-Kahala, the course offers many views of the Pacific Ocean. Yardage: 7,044; par 70.
Notable Course Features
At par 70, the layout features only two par 5s, but they conclude each nine and are usually reachable in two with prevailing winds. The signature hole is considered to be the par-3 17th, which measures 194 yards and runs along the ocean.
Cameron Smith’s late rally at Waialae Country Club lifted him to his first PGA TOUR title at the Sony Open.
“To finally say that I’ve won an event for myself is quite good.” – Cameron Smith

HOW CAMERON SMITH WON
20 20
2020 Champion
Cameron Smith, Australia
Australia’s Cameron Smith came from two strokes behind with two holes to play, and defeated Brendan Steele on the first hole of a playoff. Smith pulled within one when Steele bogeyed the 17th, tied it with an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th, and won with a par on the first playoff hole. Smith began the round three strokes behind 54-hole leader Steele, who closed with a 71. Smith recovered from a bogey-triple bogey start on his first two holes of the tournament. Smith ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting with 2.058 per round.
CHECK THIS OUT The victory was Cameron Smith’s first individual win on the PGA TOUR. He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event in 2017 with partner Jonas Blixt. With windy conditions in the first three rounds and rain on Sunday, the 269 winning total was the highest at the event since Vijay Singh won with the same score in 2005. Lanto Griffin, who finished T8, made three eagles and a birdie on the 18th hole. He was 9-under for the week on the eight par-5 holes.
