GOLF’S RISKS & REWARDS Good health and fitness are the rewards golf offers but common golf injuries will always be a risk. The following advice from OMRON Healthcare on injury treatment also shows how to reduce the risk There’s no doubt that golf gives a player’s body a very positive physical workout. This is why so many continue to keep fit in the most enjoyable way by playing the great game from a young age right through to life’s later milestones. In our enthusiasm for the game, however, it’s not uncommon to push ourselves too hard out there on the greens, resulting in muscle-wrenching strains or worse. The classic advice to avoid some of these common injuries and thereby minimize downtime is to have a warmup exercise routine that helps loosen you up before you go out to play. Sudden over exertion of untrained muscles is one of the root causes of golf injuries because the physical actions needed to play golf uses a unique number of our body’s large variety of muscles. Even pro’s at the top of their game can be as vulnerable to golf injuries as the rest of us, and hardly a month passes without the news that a top player is out of the game for the rest of the season, recovering from a debilitating golf injury. Although we are all equally vulnerable to the classic set of chronic or acute injuries to related muscles in the above list, we are individuals too, so we are more likely to be affected in different ways and be more prone to one particular golf injury than others. Even a minor injury picked up on the golf course can be a miserably painful experience, and although it’s recommended first to seek professional medical advice, self-help is also recommended as a valuable and effective option, using OMRON TENS devices.

BENEFICIAL DRUG-FREE PAIN RELIEF Omron TENS therapy devices give you customized treatment through unique massage-like modes with various intensity levels to treat pain. The theory behind TENS devices is electrical nerve stimulation, providing analgesia specifically when applied at a strong, non-painful intensity. In this way, TENS activates a complex neuronal network that results in a reduction in pain. The gentle electrical pulses move through the skin to nearby nerves to block or shut out the pain signal (from the source of the pain) from ever reaching the brain. These pulses increase the production of the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins. The electrical stimulation improves blood circulation as well. Muscles contract and relax with the flow of the electrical stimulation. With repeated contracting and relaxing, the blood flows in and out and the blood circulation is improved. TENS devices provide drugfree pain relief for sore muscles and joints. Wireless TENS devices offer convenience, flexibility and mobility, and the dual-channel TENS device targets two different pain areas at the same time. A heat TENS device combines soothing heat with electrotherapy for pain relief. An Omron mobile app is available for some devices, while rechargeable batteries make TENS relief portable for busy people with active lives, as well as giving flexibility for everyday use at home. • For more information about the clinically proven TENS technology and a special offer, visit OmronHealthcare.com/golf-pain
