In spite of this, I enjoy playing piano, watching movies (any movie – not paranormal though), reading novels and writing, which is lucky, because there is a lot of reading and writing in law. Separately, they provide an escape from the real world, which is nice, but as Andy Dufresne said, we gotta ‘get busy living, or get busy dying!’

Hello!

I hope I had you at hello!

(I also hope you got that reference) ;)

I am currently in my third year of Honours in both Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Psychology. When I sat down to write a little bit about myself, I thought how hard could this be? I’m finding that it’s a lot harder than I thought. Perhaps I can provide a bit of insight through the fact that I’m just a big contradiction. Aren’t we all? I like to challenge myself & spontaneously take up roles like Secretary of Dictum Society but more often than not, I just like to live in a routine, block to block.

I love being productive, and learning, but also am an avid procrastinator (creative and productive procrastination is key to reducing guilt if I can include a handy hint while I’m here). As Oscar Wilde once said, ‘to define is to limit’ and so as the law likes to do, I’ll leave it open to interpretation.

I joined law school because I am passionate, but also intrigued by the law. The law surrounds us, it governs everything we do, some of us abide by them, others break them (those are the ones that will keep most of us in a job) and yet it is very much a human construct. In this, my two degrees intersect. The law relies on people, to follow them, to break them, even to make them and so psychology, perhaps even psychopathology is intrinsic to the law. I would like to make an impact and help the law move towards a law that recognises the struggles and vulnerabilities of people and aims to help rather than hinder human development. In furtherance, I aim to help people and hopefully make people’s lives just a little bit easier and so I am also contemplating becoming a disability advocate, which also combines these two fields.

As I’m sure you have all already noticed, I am a movie lover, even more obvious a lover of movie quotes, I love to read, and I also really enjoy music, any way it comes!

Treasurer Ivyluanna Robertson

Studying Bachelor of law and currently in my 3rd year this year.

I’m 22 from a big family with 8 siblings Still young and open to seek and try new things and love to learn anything along the way of my journey in life. In times of difficulties and hardships during my law school journey and anything I face apart from my studies, I like to pray and rely on the word of God for guidance because Jesus is the only way I chose to study law as it was not only a passion I loved to pursue but I love to face challenges and being able to study in the field of law helps me to advocate and defend those who are disadvantaged. Law school isn’t easy, but it’s never a dull field to study as there are many aspects to learn and many concepts of law to uncover and that is what interests me the most.

My favourite movie would hands down Harry Potter and lord of the rings. Favourite song would be anything that is Afro beat and r&b, you can’t go wrong with this lol. Don’t really have a favourite book other than reading law books hahahah and my favourite activity would be spending time with my loved ones, going on adventures and playing volleyball.
