Task

Social

Guests have a specific goal to accomplish and are typically very focused and direct.

Guests main intention is to engage with other people, typically while celebrating a special occasion.

Entertainment

Discovery

Guests are looking to be brought away from “everyday life” and have fun.

Guests do not have solid plans and are more likely to wander.

research Boutique Hotels Typically including 100 to 150 rooms, these hotels offer a unique and sophisticated experience. Rooftop Bars, should have covered areas to protect against weather, both rain and sun.

About Wine Vitis vinifera, wine grapes, are smaller and sweeter than table grapes. With over 1,300 varieties, only 100 are grown in vineyards. The four most common wines in Connecticut are Vidal, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, & Chardonnay. Each bottle of wine has 5 glasses with every glass equaling to about 5 ounces.

Historic architectural details make up the main entrance of the Fenwick Hartford.

Entering the Fenwick Hartford, guests are greeted by a bellhop and the reception desk. Rich finishes create a contemporary flare to the traditional architectural details of the space. The arched opening leads to Brix and Windsor while the second reception houses the bellhop.

Aperitif Restaurant & Bar is a dramatic take on wine pairings, sure to stimulate the appetite of guests. Wine pairings can compliment or contrast the meal. Dark and light materials are contrasted and accented with moody, focal lighting. Flooring patterns compliment the spaces while wall materials enhance the rich ambiance.

18

Bar

An illuminating, diamond patterned bar is the focal area of Aperitif and contrasts the dark, moody atmosphere of the space. The dark finishes on the wall, flooring, and ceiling envelops guests with an immersive eating experience.

19

Named after the term for sugar levels in wine, Brix is inspired by the labeling and bottling of wine. The contrast of light and dark materials are reminiscent of the contrast of text on a label. Repeating diamond patterns resemble granules of sugar, creating a classic cafe with a sweetened twist.

20

Service Counter

Brix functions as a morning coffee destination and quiet place to work on business trips. Square tiles reminiscent of sugar cubes, stained glass akin to wine bottles, and rich tones all relate to sugar levels in wine.

21

The Windsor Spa, named after the soil in Hartford, represents the wintry climate and terrains’ influence on grapes grown in the area. The Windsor’s use of natural materials and simplified architectural detailing is a primitive take on elegance, reflecting the simplistic beauty conveyed in the cultural experience of Hartford’s wine.

22

Reception

Tonal materials are accented by focal lighting and minimalistic architectural details to create a calming, natural atmosphere.

23

Guestrooms Inspired by the aromas of red and white wines, The Fenwick guestrooms embody the feeling of each wine, creating unique experiences in each space. The suites represent the bright, refreshing notes of white wines contrasted by the bold, rich notes of red wines in the rooms.

The storage of wine plays a significant role in production. Aging is the state of settlement where wine is developed, on its own, into a refined state. The elements of this process are displayed through the use of oak beams, muted colors, and casual furniture.

design

The ancestor of modern architecture, the arch, was the building block of Roman architecture. Inspired by this idea of ancestry, the repeating shape of the arch creates a pattern of light on all surfaces when lit. The shape of the shadows emulates the outlines of tree branches from a family tree. Featuring the elements of shape and mass, texture, and light, ‘ancestry’, transforms from a lamp to an integral part of the design of a space

TABLE & STOOL

The Stacks Table & Stool is a multifaceted custom piece designed to embody the privacy and quiet ambiance of a library. The Stacks Table functions as a table to the right and a seat to the left. The duality allows for one person or multiple people to use simultaneously. Inspired by the profiles of books, the Stacks Table features a high back that extends to provide support and privacy. The Stacks Stool outline emulates a stack of books and inspired the name of the piece. The stool fits seamlessly under the table for compact and sleek storage.

Custom Designed Wallcovering & Carpet

for

Wallcovering | Bacchus The custom broadloom carpet is an abstract depiction of a vineyard with intersecting and curved lines. The earth tone colorway is accented with gold, blending the built and natural environments. A second colorway highlights the room entrances to support wayfinding. The custom wallcovering resembles a damask pattern with vitis vinifera, wine grapes, and foliage. The monochromatic colors creates subtle repetition of pattern and emphasizes the ambiance of the space.
