n Entertainment Desk Actor Hugh Grant, who became the poster boy for the charming British fop in romantic comedies such as “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill,” is delighted not to be part of Hollywood anymore. Grant channels his feelings in his latest film, “The Rewrite,” as Keith, a washed up screenwriter who moves to a small New York town to give a college course on the sometimes cynical and occasionally realistic perils of Hollywood. The film released in UK theaters on Wednesday. In an interview with Reuters, Grant, 54, talked about how the character Keith and his. “This character still actually loves Hollywood and wants to be part of it, and he’s just sad that he’s not and that he can’t get a job. I’m not quite like that in that I’m delighted not to be a part of it anymore, apart from occasional dippings of my toe. That doesn’t make me a better person. That’s just my taste.”

Explaining why he does not want to be part of it, Grant said: “I never really was crazy to be out there acting, performing, promoting, all that kind of stuff. It’s fun once in a while, but for some people it’s their lifeblood. I’ve never felt like that. I’ve felt that there were other things in life that were equally or more interesting.” Grant has also been active since 2011 in the Hacked Off campaign, which is dedicated to raising awareness about the victims of press abuse. He gave evidence at the Leveson inquiry into the culture and ethics of the British media and accused several British tabloid newspapers of intruding into his personal life and hacking his telephone. “What I campaign about is nothing to do with celebrities. I think there’s always going to be a tension between the amount of intrusion that a person in show business wants and the amount that they get and that’s never been different throughout this time shift,” said Grant. l

Critics’ favourite ‘Haider’ Katrina wants to do dance-based film stumbles in box office n Entertainment Desk

n Entertainment Desk Vishal Bharadwaj’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” “Haider” which was released on October 2 all over India, has grossed Rs 30.25 crore over the week. The film has been made on a relatively small budget of Rs 37 crore, with Rs 22 crore spent on production and the remaining Rs 15 crore on publicity. Given the rave reviews by critics, “Haider” was expected to do decent business despite the relatively serious story. However, if the box office numbers are any indication, the film’s earnings have been of tragic. While the makers might have hoped for the critical appreciation the film has received, and Shahid Kapoor (who plays the titular role) can keep his fingers crossed for a National Award, the cast as well as the filmmaker had also anticipated a box office debacle. Although Haider’s subject as well as the treatment of the film is contrary to any mainstream Bollywood “masala” film, a possible

reason for the film failing to set the cash registers ringing was Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer, “Bang Bang!” that released on the same day. A battle for screens was fought between Fox Studios (makers of Bang Bang!) and UTV Motions Pictures before the release of the films, but in the end after a lot of arm-twisting and haggling with theatre owers, “Bang Bang!” ended up with 4500 screens while “Haider” got only 1,200. l

Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif has proven her dancing skills in numbers like “Sheila ki jawaani,” “Chikni Chameli,” “Kamli” and more recently, “Tu meri.” Now, Katrina Kaif says she won’t mind doing a fullfledged dance-based movie, provided the script is as good as Hollywood entertainer “Step Up.” Fresh from the success of “Bang Bang!” Katrina said: “I am extremely passionate about dance, so if that came together with a great script, and if there’s a good script like ‘Step Up,’ I would like to do it.” She has praised her “Bang Bang!” costar Hrithik Roshan’s “amazing dance moves,” but Katrina’s performance in the movie has received some criticism. She said: “My philosophy in life is live and let live. If you like my films, please come and watch them, and if you don’t like it, please don’t watch it. No one is forcing you to come and watch it.” l
