MAKING the LIST

what it means to be mom-approved WORDS DFWCHILD EDITORS

WHAT IS A MOM-APPROVED DOCTOR? A Mom-Approved

Doctor is a health and wellness professional—be it a pediatrician, orthodontist, OB/GYN or family counselor—who has earned the trust, admiration and respect of parents. Local parents reached out to our magazine, recommended these providers and told us why. Whether it’s for their professional acumen, flexibility or gentle demeanor, these providers have impressed moms and dads like you who love their kids and care about their whole health. All of these health care professionals are licensed (if applicable) and were in good standing with their respective certification or examination boards at press time. 42

WHAT MAKES MOMAPPROVED DOCTORS DIFFERENT? Each year various

publications come out with lists ranking area health care professionals. Often these providers are chosen not by patients and clients but by other providers. We think Mom-Approved Doctors are special because they’ve been nominated by the consumers: local moms and dads. These providers didn’t make it on our list by purchasing space in the magazine, and their inclusion doesn’t imply an endorsement by DFWChild. This is truly a parent-to-parent referral list. It is a labor of love for us. IS THE LIST EXHAUSTIVE?

There are likely many outstand-

ing professionals who aren’t on the list because our readers didn’t pass on a recommendation. If you have a local health care provider you love, tell us. HOW DO I RECOMMEND A PROVIDER? DFWChild holds

four surveys a year for readers to nominate their favorite health care providers in the following categories: • Pediatricians, pediatric specialists and family doctors • Dentists and orthodontists • OB/GYNs, midwives and fertility specialists • Counselors, chiropractors and other wellness professionals Visit our website at dfwchild.com/ doctors to complete the current Mom-Approved Doctors survey. We ask that you leave comments telling us why you love this particular provider. Is it her empathy? Her listening and communication skills? Other parents want to know why you think this professional is special. Comments we publish will be edited for grammar and clarity. WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT THESE MOMAPPROVED DOCTORS? The

full list of Mom-Approved Doctors with comments from the parents who recommended them can also be viewed online at dfwchild.com/doctors.

P

icking a doctor is a lot like picking a partner. You need to find someone you trust, someone who makes you feel at ease, someone whose philosophies align with your own and someone with whom you can see yourself or your child long term. Unfortunately, there’s no Match.com equivalent to finding the right health care providers for your family. Just like with dating, turn to your innermost circle first. Ask trusted friends, neighbors and family members who parent the way you do for an introduction to a doctor, dentist or therapist they love. If you’re new to the area or looking for a fresh start, begin with our Mom-Approved Doctors.
