This studio project focused on design relationships between habitable interiors and habitable exteriors. The final result was a Cultural Interpretation Center located in Jester Park, just outside of Des Moines, Iowa. My project in association with Parker Carson is a set of two interior habitable spaces enclosed by rammed earth walls and a set of vertical louvers on the north facade. These louvers opened up similar to that of a garage door, leaving the interior spaces opened up to marshland and saylorville lake which the site overlooks. There are also a series of winding paths down to small viewing platforms that give the user a feeling of being closer to the lake.
Spring 2021
This studio project was an investigation into different material use as well as integrative designprocesses regarding detail work in architecture. The final result was an addition to the DIABeacon Museum in Beacon, New York along the Hudson River. This addition came in the form of an artist residency along the south side of the site. My project in association with Jorge Nunez is a long slender building that offers housing units across 3 floors connected via 1 centralhallway. It offers a communal kitchen and living space for the residents while also giving each resident an in-unit studio. There are also collaborative workspaces as well as areas for artists to display their work on the first floor.
This studio project was an in-depth exploration of large-scale projects and their relationship to the social and cultural aspects of the community around the site. The final project was a near-complete renovation and addition to the Museum of Contemporary Arts (MCA) in downtown Chicago. My project in association with Kevin Tokarczyk included new exhibition space, as well as a revamp of the existing education, and office facilities the program of the building offers. The vertical circulation of the building received major changes and upgrades. The building recieved major modifications in 3 ways. The existing building was filled in on the east facade, the main program was focused to the central core of the building, and a seasonal performance pavilion was placed on top.
This Studio Project was a dive into the urban landscape of a site and how an intervention into the site can tie into that urban landscape. The project, located in the San Lorenzo neighborhood of Rome, Italy, was a multi-program building and a set of public spaces to tie into the urban landscape of the site. My project in association with Anthony Rodriguez and Brandon Edwards tackles the challenge of balancing varying programs across a tricky sloped site at such a large scale. The building accommodates residential, commercial, office, and community programs with two large public spaces located on the site.
