Creative Arts Activities/Therapies Instructor Jim Da Silva Farm is seeking a passionate volunteer who has creative arts / therapy skills to teach the residents how to express themselves through creative art activities/therapy. The residents include up to 10 men aged 30 to 60 years. The volunteer will lead a regular creative activity which residents learn and use in their spare time while they rebuild their lives. Classes could include painting, drawing, mosaic, pottery, jewellery making, music - may lead into writing and poetry. Ideas for developing the program are most welcome. Jim Da Silva Farm provides secure accommodation for a limited number of long-term homeless men. This service is located 6 km to the west of Nowra. Volunteer skills/competencies: We are looking for someone who • Has previous experience in teaching creative art to adults • Is able to maintain confidentiality of our clients • Is genuinely sensitive to homelessness and mental illness (schizophrenia) • Is reliable and has contactable references • It is preferred that the volunteer has own transport. Commitment: The volunteer will conduct an arts class (painting, drawing, mosaic, possibly creative writing/poetry) once a week, mid morning, any day of the week, for six weeks. Materials and supplies will be provided but left behind for after class activity. Training & Supervision: Occupation Health & Safety training and induction specific to the Society and Understanding Mental illness will be provided.
