Welkom Barbara en Luka!

Barbara Pavlenshvili en Luka Trbović zijn onze nieuwe vrijwilligers in het kader van het European Solidarity Corps (ESC). De komende maanden versterken ze het team van Destelheide en Hanenbos. Spreek hen gerust aan als je hen tegen het lijf loopt, want ze popelen om ons land en zijn inwoners te leren kennen!

Barbara Pavlenshvili (Geörgië)

My name is Barbara Pavlenishvili. I am 25 years old. I live in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. I studied international relations as my bachelor and have a degree in IR and English Philology. After 4 years of studies I went to the Czech Republic with AIESEC. I was volunteering in the project called ‘Break Cultural Barriers’ in Prague for six weeks. Later, I received a scholarship from the mayor of Innsbruck in Austria for intensive German courses and had another amazing experience in Tirol for one month.

Right now, I am in Belgium with the European Solidarity Corps project. I enjoy the whole learning process with the whole team, my voluntary partner and with all the artists a lot. It is an unforgettable experience. You can learn a lot by doing different tasks, which is very interesting. It is a great adventure.

Luka Trbović (Servië)

Hey there, I’m Luka Trbović - a 19-year-old creative hailing from the vibrant city of Belgrade, Serbia. I am passionate about photography and film. Besides this, I also make games. There’s something about being in nature and outside in general that makes me feel alive and connected to the world around me. And when the day comes to an end, there’s nothing I love more than settling in for a long, cosy night and watching the sunset paint the sky with brilliant colours.

After much contemplation, I decided to take a gap year before starting university to travel, explore, create, and give back through volunteer work. And now, I find myself at Destelheide in Belgium, where my passions have led me to new creative heights. The experience and the opportunity of meeting so many inspiring people and being surrounded by the beautiful landscape and architecture of the residence has brought me a sense of peace and quietness that is simply amazing. Moreover, I’ve fallen in love with Belgium for its openness and diversity, which makes me feel welcomed and appreciated.

Verharding op de schop in Hanenbos

De volledige heraanleg van de buitenomgeving van Hanenbos vordert goed. Maar liefst 1800 m² verharding heeft er intussen plaats geruimd voor extra groen.

De voorbije weken wipten we in Hanenbos het equivalent van zo maar eventjes 20.000 tegels uit de grond. Daardoor leveren we meteen ook een stevige bijdrage aan het Vlaams Kampioenschap Tegelwippen dat Vlaanderen groener moet maken. De nieuwe parking met doorlaatbare ondergrond is helemaal klaar. Aan de open ruimte aan de achterkant is de nieuwe zitplek intussen aangelegd. Boven de zitbanken komt nog een groot zeil als bescherming tegen de zon. Aan de voorkant is het asfalt intussen verwijderd. Ook daar maakt grijs plaats voor extra groen. Het verkeersvrije voorplein krijgt ook een nieuwe zitplaats en een klein podium. Kinderen zullen er voortaan in alle veiligheid kunnen spelen, weg van het verkeer.

Je tweewieler parkeer je in Hanenbos voortaan veilig en netjes in een van de fonkelnieuwe fietsenstallingen, waarvan er eentje volledig overdekt is. Je vindt ze aan de voorkant van ons gebouw. Nog een extra reden om je op een duurzame manier naar Hanenbos te verplaatsen!

In het najaar volgt nog de beplanting van de nieuwe buitenomgeving. Daarom houden we dit jaar geen brunch of barbecue in het bos. In november doen we in Hanenbos wel opnieuw mee met de Kunstendag voor Kinderen. Hou onze kanalen in de gaten voor meer info!
