WILDLIFE GARDEN AREA
LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES...
We have finally ‘broken ground’ on our new Wildlife garden area. Pupils attending the EcoSchools Wildlife Garden enrichment sessions have dug the ground over, removed brambles and sprinkled wildflower seeds in the hope that they may start to grow before the summer holidays. In the spirit of recycling, we are now looking for a wooden bench for the pupils to renovate, to provide an area for quiet reflection as the garden develops. In the coming month we hope to add a stag beetle stumpery and log pile.

ROWING WIN FOR KELYN AND TILLY Well done to Year 9 pupils Kelyn C-S and Tilly M-S who took part in the 2022 Maidenhead Junior Regatta this week. They both joined the J14 Henley Rowing Squad in September 2021 and have trained incredibly hard all year. The training has paid off and they made it to the final yesterday, where their quad won first place!
SENIOR SCHOOL UPDATE, Matt Humphrey Many of our Year 11 pupils have already started their summer external examinations, but before this they managed to enjoy a couple of afternoons of de-stress and fun. Last Tuesday they had a whole afternoon away from the academic rigours to relax, socialise with friends and get their shirts signed. There was also the opportunity to take one another on in an inflatable sumo wrestling competition! Then again on Friday they were treated to pizza, doughnuts and ice cream and were able to take part in the infamous Luckley water fight (which I’m not sure who enjoyed more, the pupils or Mrs Hayden and Miss Phillips!). Mrs Hayden said how lovely it was to see them all interact, having a go on the laser tag or bouncing away their stresses on the bouncy castle.

I love books which are based on true stories and this one has its origins in a tragic event which shocked the world in 2004, a devastating tsunami which shattered the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Two of those individuals find themselves coming together when they visit a remote place in Japan which is home to a phone box. It is not connected to a line, but people from far and wide gather in order to pick up the receiver, dial the number for someone they love and have lost and speak their thoughts into the abyss. The wind carries their words away and with them, a tiny piece of their grief and loss. Utterly beautiful, simple and moving. Darshan Bahbra Head of English It has been great to see the hard work that Year 9 pupils have been putting in ahead of their internal examinations next week. I know lots of pupils are looking forward to starting their new GCSE timetable after half term. I want to wish all pupils every success next week and to remember to control the controllables! Year 10 pupils have approached their internal examinations this week with great maturity and independence; they have really impressed us with their overall attitude and application. I hope they have enjoyed the down time in the middle of the day and that it has given them some respite from the exams and the hard work that I know they’ve been putting in to get the best results possible. These exams are really important to understand the process, as well as to identify any gaps in knowledge which will inform further learning.
