Mountain Valley Sportsman's Association (MVSA)

in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is a private club that consists of members who enjoy the shooting sports. MVSA encourages and promotes friendly competition, social camaraderie, and shooting skill development in an organized and safe format for pistol, rifl e, and shotgun shooters. Th e top-notch facility welcomes members, nonmembers, and shooters from other clubs to participate in their events.

Th e MVSA Action Shooting Range includes a 10-bay range with an air conditioned building, pavilion, and restrooms. Each bay has a covered staging area with target stands and sticks available for use. Shooters bring their own cardboard backers and targets. Th e range is primarily used for training and competition. Among the events are the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), Multi-Gun, and Rimfi re.

Periodic courses for handgun and rifl e marksmanship and defensive handgun classes are off ered. Th ere are Concealed Handgun Carry License (CHCL) courses, taught by state-authorized instructors who are also MVSA members. Th e Gangster Museum of America

Hot Springs, Arkansas, was actually Vegas before there was a Las Vegas. It was where criminals of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s took their vacations, enjoying the city's mineral spas as well as its wide-open illegal gambling and prostitution. Hot Springs was run by Owen "Th e Killer" Madden, an exile from New York who ended up marrying the local postmaster's daughter.

For these reasons, the Gangster Museum of America really is the Gangster Museum of Hot Springs. Exhibits have a decidedly local feel and perspective and include slot machines and gaming tables from the more popular local casinos, as well as weapons that belonged to notorious gangsters. Th ere is even a Victrola that was actually owned by the brother of Al Capone.

Looking for a unique evening outing in Hot Springs? Th roughout the year, you can take a haunted walking tour of the unique and picturesque city with Hot Springs Haunted Tours. Included in the tour is information on several buildings that have a haunted history, as well as stories

of mysteries and intrigue. Th ere are actually numerous spots in Hot Springs that are said to be haunted, with the oldest dating back to the early 1800s. For example, the site known as the Malco Th eater, at 817 Central Avenue, was a venue that opened in the late 1940s, but the reported haunting goes back to the late 1880s, and concerns the disappearance of a woman during a magic show. Th is tale ties into the Malco today since this venue is currently home to Maxwell Blade’s Th eatre of Magic. Th e walking tour also includes West Mountain, an old Army Hospital, and several haunted houses along the way. Some of the stories you will hear on the tour include haunts, murders, mysteries, deaths, ghosts, and suicides. Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum

Josephine Tussaud devoted her lifetime to the world of wax in the heritage of her great grandmother, Madame Tussaud. Th ere are over one hundred wax fi gures at the Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum, and they are so realistic and detailed, visitors have to do a double-take. Th e Museum includes the macabre and the grotesque. “Th e World of Horrors” includes “Torture by the Pendulum” with mutilated corpses and decapitated heads. Th e display “Legends of Myth and Horror” features a werewolf and Frankenstein and is hosted by the wax version of Alfred Hitchcock.

Paintball

Paintball is an extreme sport in which players compete, in teams or individually, to eliminate opponents by tagging them with capsules (paintballs) containing water-soluble dye in a gelatin shell propelled from a device called a paintball marker (commonly referred to as a paintball gun).

Dive Sites Lake Ouachita has hundreds of miles of shoreline and an abundance of spectacular places to dive. All but a small handful do require the diver to use a boat. Th e Dam-Scuba Park and Fearless Rock Memorial (features a memorial placed in honor of local fallen soldier and Navy SEAL Adam Brown) are both excellent beginner level dive sites.
