Colour legibility

Legibility is affected by the perceived contrast between text and background.

Use simple colour schemes – too many colours can be overwhelming, may impair legibility and will not stand out against competing posters.

Colour perception is affected by physiological factors such as ageing and colour-blindness; and environmental factors such as display settings and room lighting. Avoid using color combinations that make it difficult for users to distinguish foreground from background due to either a) low-contrast typography, eg. red text on a pink background, or b) jarring colours, eg. green text on a red background.
