What is HIV?

HIV is a kind of VIRUS

 What it means - Human Immune deficiency Virus  How it works - infects vital cells in the human immune

system

 What it will lead to – AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency

Syndrome)

So…  HIV and AIDS are not the same!!!  HIV causes AIDS  HIV is a virus and AIDS is a disease

What will happen if you get AIDS?

PROTECTION is necessary !! Select which actions you think will cause HIV infection.

Unprotected sexual contact If someone is infected with HIV the virus will live in his/her semen/Vaginal secretions and blood. During intercourse , the HIV can infect the mucous membranes directly or enter through cuts.

Drug use ď‚— HIV can be transmitted through blood. ď‚— Intravenous injection is the most common

way for drug abusers to take drugs. After the injection there will be some blood on the needle. If there is one person infected with HIV others who share the needle may get infected too.

Drink water from the same glass with an infected person  Saliva  Tears  Sweat  Feces  Urine

THESE BODY FLUIDS ARE NOT HIV INFECTIOUS

The child will get HIV if mother is HIV infected ď‚— It is possible for an HIV-infected mother to

pass the virus directly before or during birth, or through breast feeding. Breast milk contains HIV, and while small amounts of breast milk do not pose significant threat of infection to adults, it is a viable means of transmission to infants.

How is HIV Transmitted? HIV can be transmitted from an infected person to another through:

Protect yourself from HIV!  Use CONDOMS!  Stay away from DRUGS!  Go to reliable HOSPITALS  Encourage people living with you to do the

society. Don’t be afraid of society!

 Be positive and active about the disease and never give

up hope!

You can live longer with medical treatment!!! minimum 40 years with treatment!!!
