Executive Director’s Welcome Welcome to the 2nd annual South Bay’s Got Talent competition. We had an amazing turn out of talent for the first round audition, which made the preliminary judges work very hard, but from almost 60 performers who auditioned, we have selected the best of the best for this competition. Our esteemed panel of judges will have a difficult time tonight selecting winners. In case they can’t come to a consensus of the winner and it ends up with a tie, that’s where you will come in. If the judges truly cannot choose a winner, we will turn it over to you, the audience, to help us out. As always, if there is anything we can do to enhance your experience with us, or if you really enjoyed the show and want to share your comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us at feedback@torrancearts.org or call the Foundation office at (310) 378-8100. Thank you all for coming out to support local talent. All the best—

Christian Wolf, Executive Director Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation

Aleyna Yim Performing “Fallin’ for Budapest,” an original mashup of “Fallin’ for You” by Colbie Caillat and “Budapest” by George Ezra Aleyna Yim is a fourteen year old freshman attending Torrance High School. As a hobby, she enjoys song writing, choreographing dances, learning choreography online, teaching dance to students, watching anime, playing the ukulele, and of course, singing (really loudly at 1am). Her favorite genres of music include ballads, RnB, rap/hiphop, and k-pop. Aleyna has recently taken part in singing a mashup of “Rather Be” and “Best Day of My Life” for her 8th grade graduation, and she wishes to show an even better stage at is year’s South Bay’s Got Talent with a mashup of “Fallin’” and “Budapest.” Amanda Warren is a 9-year-old going into the 4th grade at Seaside Elementary. She has performed in “Thoroughly Modern Mille,” “Frozen,” and performed the lead role in “Annie.” She will also be performing in Peter Pan in December at The Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan Beach. This is her first time in South Bay’s Got Talent and she is excited about the show! Christine Hu “My name is Christine Hu and I am sixteen this year, currently a junior at South High School. I started playing the guzheng (aka zither) when I was five years old, so I have practiced this instrument for eleven years. Three years ago, I passed the level eight proficiency test for this instrument in Beijing, China during the summer; and the test is scored out of a total of ten levels. My musical piece is about a beautiful scenery that takes place in Tibet with snowy mountains, and the snow is slowly melting as the weather shifts into spring. It represents the Tibetans’ strong love for their homeland and their desire for happiness.”

Cindy Shields grew up in Torrance and has been performing since she was 16 ... so, the last 13 years! Credits include commercials, voice-over, television, stage, some of L.A.’s funniest murder mysteries, and now stand-up! Kimi, Peyton, Michelle, Sofia, Hayden, Teia and Audrey are very excited to be performing at South Bay’s Got Talent! They hope you enjoy their musical theater performance. Emi I “My interest in music started when I first picked up the guitar at the age of nine. When I turned 12, I then started singing while playing my guitar. This summer I wrote my first song called, “No Other” and with the help of a friend, I posted my music video on Youtube. This song is about expressing your uniqueness/differences and I hope you enjoy it.” Ipsita Bhattacharya Performing an Indian Classical Dance based on the Kathak style; Song: Kahe Ched Ched Mohe from the movie Devdas “I am Ipsita Bhattacharya and I am 13 years old and an eighth grader. I am passionate about learning Indian classical dance because it is graceful, it has mudras (hand symbols), also awesome footwork with bells on them, and is very rhythmic and uses facial expressions to express various emotions. I have been learning to dance for the last 3 years.

I love to share the beauty of Indian classical dance. I will be performing an Indian classical dance that is based on Kathak style. The dance is based on song “Kahe chede mohe” from the movie Devdas, based on the novel written by a famous Indian author. This is a romantic song based on the Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. This song is based on the tales of ‘Lord Krishna’, a loved and worshipped Hindu God. Krishna loves to go to the river bank where Radha comes everyday to take a bath. He teases her and loves to play around with her. The song describes about Krishna’s feelings about Radha’s beauty and how lovely she is. It describes her curly hair, her intoxicating walk and her emotions. Krishna kisses Radha on her face when Radha feels embarrassed and at the same time excited. Radha’s scarf falls from her face and that is why she feels embarrassed. She asks Krishna to stop teasing her and leave her alone though she loves to hear his flute as it drives her towards him.” Kami Ramirez is 15 years old and a sophomore at South Torrance High School. Ever since she was a young girl, Kami enjoyed singing and acting in front of a live audience. Musical theatre has become her passion in life. As a freshman, Kami starred in two productions, “A Christmas Carol” and “Once Upon a Mattress,” and has also sung for private charity events in the South Bay. Kami’s current aspiration is to continue acting and singing in her school productions, and dreams of one day bringing joy to audiences while starring on Broadway as she follows the footsteps of her role model, Idina Menzel. Kayla Stefansson is 12 years old and is in the 7th grade at California Connections Academy. Her passion is musical theatre, and she has performed in over 20 musicals with the South Bay Conservatory (SBC) since the age of 7. Her favorite roles include Millie (Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr.), Little Red (Into the Woods) and Annie (Annie). Kayla is honored to once again perform at South Bay’s Got Talent, having placed third last year. She would like to thank SBC and its wonderful directors who have taught her everything she knows about musical theatre and her family and friends for their love and support. Kendall Mata began singing and acting at the age of 8 when she enrolled in Summer Drama Camp. She was hooked and has been performing whenever the opportunity arises. Kendall has always had the passion of becoming a singer/songwriter. To expand her knowledge in the arts she auditioned for Orange County School of the Arts and has attended there since 7th grade. Kendall, now 15 continues to work on her craft by dedicating herself to her lessons in acting, singing and piano.

Beginning with family performances staged with friends to professional singing engagements, she strives to bring at a little enjoyment to everyone with whom she comes in contact. Kiera started singing lessons at 7 years old and performs regularly around Huntington Beach including being featured at the 4th of July Pier Festival. Kiera is a good student and active in tennis, swimming (especially mermaid swimming), and body boarding. She has a great love of the ocean and spends as much time in the water as she can. Kiera has a very empathetic nature and is always the person in her group of friends to make sure that everyone is getting along and having a good time together. Kristin Stefansson is 9 years old and is in the 4th grade at California Connections Academy. Her favorite roles include Bull Frog (Honk Jr.), Little Red (Into the Woods Jr.) and Molly (Annie). Kristin hopes you enjoy her rendition of “Someone Else’s Story,” which she choose to sing after hearing Sutton Foster, her favorite Broadway actress, sing it at a recent concert. “I would like to thank my family and friends for their love and support and the amazing directors at SBC for making theatre so much fun.” Los Angeles Taiko Institute (Kristofer Bergstrom & Yuta Kato) Performing “Sugamen” Teachers at Los Angeles Taiko Institute in Torrance, Kris and Yuta are developing the “sugagaki” technique of interlocking strikes to enable the performance of exceptionally fast patterns, including the “Amen Break” of drum-and-bass fame. friends and family for their support and she dedicates her performance to her son, her daughter, her husband and grandparents, Eri & Espie. Matt Morreale Performing “Nothing Else to Say,” an original song Matthew Morreale is a twelve year old multitalented musician, singer and songwriter who has taken his classically trained foundation in classical guitar (since age 5) and piano (since age 7) and his natural ability to sing, and branched out into the world of popular music. Born with absolute pitch and home schooled since first grade, Matthew excelled quickly in his classical training, and has won various competitions in both piano and guitar. With a natural feel for music, Matthew has exploded with covers of popular songs and has written, performed, produced and recorded a number of original songs. This has not gone unnoticed, as he has been asked to appear twice on the weekly radio show “Breakfast with the Beatles” on 95.5 KLOS and was asked to open for the Beatles cover band “1964” at Pierson Park Amphitheatre. More important to Matthew than any of his many accomplishments, though, is the use of his musical gifts to help those in need. He performed a number of benefit concerts for “The Little Sisters of the Poor” raising funds for their home for the elderly and was featured on Fox11 News for his charitable concert for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in July of 2014 where he raised over two thousand dollars for their cause. Matthew has used his musical gifts to convey the beauty of his music to others and to make the world a better place. When she grows up she wants to be a veterinarian. Sajini’s experience with singing is not just singing the words out loud, but telling a story, probably about a loved one you lost, and it wonders in your mind what does it feel like when you’re ready for the future… is it scary, exciting, nervous, or peaceful? Life is filled with curiosity. Here is a variety dance: “Mayilaattam” (peacock dance), “Karagaattam” (dance with a pot on the head) and “Poikaal Kuthirai” (horse dance) from South Indian villages. Our dancers depict how joy and happiness is spread through the beauty of dance during a typical village festival.” Taylor Portia Marie Machado is an 8-year-old twin who has always had a passion for performing. She’s warmhearted and goofy. She started performing on stage at her school’s first ever variety show when she was in second grade. Twice she sang in front of a huge room of strangers at Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney, accompanied by two wonderful pianists. She followed that with deciding to audition for the first South Bay’s Got Talent in 2014. While she didn’t make it to the big show that year, she still showed up performance night to cheer on the other contestants. During her voice lesson with Diana Zaslove Kahn, she was introduced to “Castle on a Cloud” from Les Misérables, and loved it. This year she’s ready to share her passion for singing with all of you.
