S T YLE BIBLE

An annual book of forecasts and predictions... perhaps that is nothing unique, there are ‘look books’ for many industries, however, what I like about publishing Style Bible each year is its ability to evolve. At one time, many years ago, it was essentially a ‘look book’ - we featured chapters on all areas of the home, recommended new collections, innovations and technological advancements, in an almost prescriptive way. Looking back through old issues, it was perhaps ‘very noughties’ in its design, outlook and style. However, the benefit of a publication in its 18th year of print is it is does come of age, evolve and grow.

Today, Style Bible is more than a mere collection of recommendations: whilst it retains its original purpose, it has become a publication which leads, recommends and directs via the words, and thoughts, of some of the most interesting and inspirational designers of their time. They are diverse in their outlook, their work and their ethos, and I feel this brings a fresh approach and new life to a long-established design book.

I do hope you enjoy this year’s annual issue, and look forward to the year ahead with you once again.

Until next month

The highlight of her career includes the expansion of BllendDesignOffice to international landscapes, notably contributing to healthcare, hospitality, and commercial sectors in Greece, Bucharest, the UK, and the Emirates. Helen finds inspiration through travel and cultural immersion, recharging her “inspiration powerpacks.” Helen’s design ethos reflects a holistic, people-centric approach influenced by her multicultural background, with a commitment to balance, well-being, and a focus on family.

Tell us a little about your background in design. My professional training and work experience balance equally among Architectural & Spatial design, Engineering on one side and Urban Sociology and Research on the other, while moving from small scale of interior or Urban furniture design to that of Urban Design for Social Responsibility and Master Planning. My research background in culture and ethnography, as well as quantitative and qualitative research methods, enables our studio to approach every context from a wide perspective, making every location and project an educational, transformative and collective experience that has a strong impact on every stakeholder.

Please describe the highlight of your career to date. We gradually developed our focus from small scale residential and office projects mainly in Attiki and Athens, to getting commissioned for upper scale and demanding projects that require expertise and know how in the Healthcare, Hospitality and Commercial Sector all over Greece. During the past 8 years we have expanded our business abroad getting involved in the design, research, execution and project management for very demanding commercial and residential projects in Bucharest, UK and Emirates.

Please describe the project you are most proud of to date, with reasons why this was a success?

We are very proud of all our projects, but specifically one healthcare project the ‘Healing Ribbon’ RADIO Actinology Sector for IASO Healthcare has a special place in our heart and marks a stepping stone for us as a design office. Working in a sector that is associated with pain and loss, is difficult and demands special care, knowledge and expertise in many fields-spatial design, psychology, material technology, research and lighting humancentric design.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

Inspiration for my work extends beyond the confines of traditional design sources. Travel and cultural immersion form the cornerstone of my creative process, serving as a dynamic means of recharging my inspiration “powerpacks.” By venturing into diverse landscapes and immersing myself in different cultures, I tap into a rich tapestry of experiences that transcend the boundaries of conventional design influences. This approach not only broadens my aesthetic perspectives but also infuses my work with a global sensibility. The exploration of new environments, architectural marvels, and local traditions becomes a source of creative energy, allowing me to bring fresh and innovative perspectives to each project.

How do you relax and find your work/ life balance?

Being a designer is very transformative and sometimes hard evolution that demands diligence, focus, daily education to remain knowledgeable, efficient and effective in a rapidly evolving and competitive sector. Working among a great competition of unique projects and design offices, we feel blessed and very proud that our work has received wide and international recognition bearing the credentials of very prestigious and established International Design Competitions. When I say hard I mean that constantly you have to try to find balances, realign, negotiate and keep a healthy distance in order to give the best at work and focus on family as well.

How would you describe your work/design style /ethos?

I was born in Greece but having lived abroad for many years the multi-cultural and educational background of different continents has infused my approach to design and lifestyle

in general. Far East and its holistic approach to every living organism, plays a vital role in treating the natural and man -made environment from an organic perspective. This has informed our holistic approach to design and projects alike, and we choose to apply this approach in every phase of the design process, allowing elements from various disciplines to be incorporated in order to achieve the clients’ visions and goals without compromising our social mission. From the very beginning of our establishment we embraced an understanding of the enormous impact the building and our surrounding environment has on our life and wellbeing. Every project therefore starts from the axiom ‘people first’ and by incorporating research informed data, we aim to bring or realign the balance of all the elements that constitute our surrounding environment.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

The positive aspect of the disruptive era we experienced was that people became more aware of their surroundings and their strong impact on their daily balance and wellbeing. Healthy air, lighting and safety have gained an important place in spatial designwhether it involves residential, commercial or hospitality projects.

How is your work evolving?

All of this effort cannot be achieved without studying nature and incorporating the lessons learned so far to inform better design, within a research and relevant contextual framework.

What area(s) of the design sector do you work in for the most part?

All of the sectors, mainly focusing on interior design, lighting design and bespoke furniture design & manufacturing.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months and beyond?

In the next twelve months and beyond, my aims and goals are centred around witnessing the materialisation of our current projects and seeing them achieve the set objectives. It’s a crucial step in the creative process, as it involves bringing our conceptual visions into tangible reality. Looking further ahead, my focus extends beyond individual projects to a broader mission – the design of healthier and resilient environments that positively impact a larger audience. This goal reflects my commitment to sustainability, well-being, and the integration of thoughtful design practices. I aspire to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable future, where my design philosophy becomes a catalyst for positive change. By setting these objectives, I aim not only to meet immediate project goals but to make a lasting impact on the way people experience and interact with their surroundings.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2023 and beyond.

Biophilia, Organic Materiality, Adaptive Tradition, Cultural Infusion and Innovation.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?

Materials and colours and the way they interact with the natural and man-made environment.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be? Design for purpose and experience.

Tell us a little about your background in design.

I was born and raised in the vibrant city of Hong Kong before embarking on a transformative journey to the United Kingdom at the age of 16. It was at the esteemed St. Mart School Cambridge, a traditional boarding school, where I discovered my passion for art. The school’s exceptional art education nurtured my creativity, and with the unwavering support of my teachers, I consistently achieved top grades in both fine art and texture. Following my time at St. Mary, I pursued my studies at Chelsea College of Art in London, delving into the captivating realm of (BA) Interior and Spatial Design. This experience was truly eye-opening, broadening my artistic horizons and igniting within me a desire to establish my own brand. Armed with my newfound inspiration, I returned to Hong Kong upon completing my education, ready to make my mark in the world of interior design. I embarked on a professional journey with renowned companies such as Aedas Interior and AB Concept, honing my skills in FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment). This invaluable experience further solidified my expertise and provided me with the confidence to pursue my dream of establishing my own brand specialising in interior material products.

Please describe the highlight of your career to date. The highlight of my career began in 2015 when my partner Jacky Hung and I embarked on an incredible journey to establish our own company, Coltex Furnishing. It has been an amazing and fulfilling experience building and growing our brand.

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Our endeavours extend to prestigious projects such as Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, Four Seasons Macau, The Londoner Macau, St. Regis Hong Kong, and many more. These remarkable ventures showcase the breadth and calibre of our work in the industry.

Tell us a little more about these project(s):

In each of the projects mentioned above, our fabric has played a pivotal role, serving as wall panelling, art wall, drapery, and upholstery for sofas and chairs. Additionally, we have ventured into developing laminated glass incorporating our exquisite sheer fabrics. Our products offer a multitude of creative applications, and we take pride in collaborating with designers to create truly unique and innovative designs.

Please describe the project you are most proud of to date, with reasons why this was a success.

One of the projects that fills me with immense pride is the Four Seasons Hotel Service Apartment in Macau, which took place between 2019 and 2020. This particular Four Seasons establishment boasts the most extensive and grandest suites in the world. I am thrilled to have contributed to this project by supplying and developing fabric and wallcovering. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, this project continues to enjoy an exceptional reputation in Macau.

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

Nature serves as my endless wellspring of inspiration. In every textile and wallcovering art pattern we create, the mesmerising movements of water take centre stage. Whether it’s the gentle flow upon its surface, the captivating reflections dancing upon its ripples, the majestic cascade of a waterfall, or the ethereal hues of a sunset mirrored in its depths, our designs capture the essence of water’s allure.

But my artistic expression extends beyond the realm of water. Drawing upon my background in fine art, I infuse our creations with the graceful strokes of a brush. These brushstrokes, once confined to canvas, now find their way into our designs, reimagined in a modern and abstract manner. It is through this fusion of mediums that our patterns come alive, breathing new life into traditional motifs and transforming them into captivating abstract forms.

In embracing this artistic evolution, I find joy in challenging the conventions of traditional patterns, daring to explore uncharted territories. With each stroke and each abstract expression, we redefine the boundaries of design, breathing fresh perspectives into the world of textiles and wallcoverings.

How would you describe your work/design style/ethos?

My design style can be described as eclectic and inspired by the intricacies of everyday life. I find inspiration in the smallest details

and possess a vivid imagination that fuels my creative process. The designs I create are known for their comfort and visually pleasing aesthetics, offering a sense of ease to those who interact with them.

In line with my design philosophy, I prioritise functionality alongside durability. I strive to develop materials that are not only visually appealing but also practical and long-lasting. This includes incorporating features such as easy-clean properties and water repellence, ensuring that the products I design are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional in daily use.

How is your work evolving?

My work continually evolves through the exploration of our materials. Each year, we dedicate ourselves to creating standout collections encompassing fabric, wallcovering, vinyl, and leather. However, our sheer designs have surpassed conventional expectations. We have embraced innovative such as laminating sheers into glass, enabling their use in glass doors, bathrooms, and other wet areas.

In the realm of wallcoverings, we offer the added dimension of hand-painted custom art. Our diverse selection of base materials empowers clients to achieve truly unique designs that reflect their personal style. We understand that every client desires an interior design that stands apart, and we take pride in delivering tailored solutions to meet their specific needs.

Moreover, we have recently embarked on the development of water-repellent velvet. Traditionally, velvet has been perceived as a challenging material to maintain. However, we have pioneered a new technology that treats the yarn with waterrepellent properties, making it suitable for a range of projects including hotels, F&B establishments, and residential spaces. This breakthrough offers a practical solution for clients seeking the luxurious look and feel of velvet without compromising on functionality.

By continuously pushing boundaries and embracing technological advancements, we strive to provide our clients with unparalleled options for creating distinctive and practical interior designs.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2023 and beyond:

Sustainability and Eco-Conscious Design

Minimalism and Simplicity

Biophilic Design

Technology Integration

Personalisation and Customisation

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

When designing schemes for our materials during our Instagram photo shoots, I embrace spontaneity and follow my instincts. I dive right in and bring to life whatever ideas come to mind, without hesitation. Working in our showroom feels like being at home, and it provides an inspiring environment for my creative process. It’s truly amazing to have such a space where I can freely explore my design ideas and bring them to fruition.

How important are The International Design Awards?

The international design award holds great significance for us as a young and emerging interior material brand. Winning the prestigious 2021 award in the fabric sector is a tremendous honour. This recognition allows us to establish a strong presence on the international stage and solidify our position within the industry. We are grateful for this opportunity, as it opens doors to new opportunities and helps us gain recognition as a leading brand in the global design community.

Final thoughts:

As an interior material brand based in Hong Kong, we embarked on our journey with limited support in the region. Despite the challenges, we took the bold step of investing significantly to develop over 500 fabric collections, all imported from Europe. Managing the logistics of stocking these materials across our warehouses in Hong Kong, China, and Europe has been no small feat.

35 WWW.CONCEPTHANDTUFTING.CO.UK

What sectors does your company work in?

Residential, hotel, retail, marine, hospitality

Please tell us about your company, how it was founded, its aims and ethos:

We are a family run business with five generations working in textiles. We switched from yarn spinning to carpet design and supply and, as such, our intimate knowledge of fibre is at the heart of what we do. We are a small but growing business with in house designers which allows us to combine our vast product knowledge with cutting edge British design.

How do you feel your products are different from others in the market?

We are very particular about sourcing our products. We used our yarn spinning background to carefully select a portfolio of production partners around the globe, all chosen for their different strengths and skills. This allows us to cherry pick the perfect production partner for any given project, providing a truly bespoke service.

How has 2023 been for you and how are you looking to move forward in 2024?

2023 has been really exciting for us. We have grown both in our operations and sales departments and have launched some exciting new design collections. In 2024, we will be working on some new in-house design collections as well as starting to collaborate with some of the amazing design talent out there. It is an exciting time for design with more bold pattern and colours coming through so it’s a really great time to get creative!

Please tell us a little about your current collections/new ranges:

‘Fragments’ is a delicately designed and stunningly technical hand knotted collection, which is inspired by ancient textile fragments and their beautiful patina of age, where glimpses of the original richness still shine through despite their erosion over time. The designs explore the beauty of their delicate, antiquarian nature, blending it with modern design elements and playing with texture and colour to achieve a unique look. In keeping with the theme of the collection, these rugs are hand knotted using traditional methods and are made in wool and silk.

The ‘Flora & Fauna’ collection are intricately pictorial designs which take inspiration from antique book covers and historic floral and fauna illustrations. Flora & Fauna aims to breathe new life into historic design styles that are at risk of being lost to the march of time, allowing for their beauty to once again be celebrated. The subjects of the design are all elements of our exquisite natural world mirroring the risks that world is also facing. Blending historical and modern design elements, the collection utilises organic motifs in rich oxbloods, deep greens and navy blues with light, neutral highlights, and is hand tufted in Merino wool and luxurious silk.

What is your vision for the future director of the business?

We want to continue to grow whilst maintaining the personalised service that we have been able to give our customers whilst being a small company. It’s not an easy ambition but we are fierce about who joins our team, and they have to be able to offer a warm, friendly and personal approach, as well as having the technical and design knowledge that is essential to our work. There is so

much design talent out there that we would really love to work with so we’re keen to keep expanding our customer base. We also want to keep pushing forwards with new design collections. We have come from a place of being completely bespoke and, whilst that’s fab and will always be at the heart of what we do, busy lives and tight deadlines often mean that people don’t have the time for the design development of a completely bespoke design. We also find that end clients can often find the concept of being able to have “anything” overwhelming. So, we are really keen to get lots more creative content onto our website over the next few years so we have a great library for clients to either choose from, or to use as the starting point for a bespoke creation.

How has this year changed us as consumers/designers/ business leaders?

The ongoing cost of living issues have, of course, impacted us all with our own business costs increasing whilst needing to be mindful of increased costs for our clients. Global conflict has also played its part affecting various individual projects. But on the whole, it has felt like a really positive year as we get further and further from the pandemic, and I feel like this is reflected in people bringing so much more joy and fun to their interior schemes through the use of colour and pattern.

Tell us about your work/life balance and how you achieve this: Work/life balance is often a challenging thing when running a business. When you work with project based sales, it is also hard to predict when you are going to need to put in some extra hours, and when things will relax a little more. I have a young child and I am lucky that this business allows me to juggle my commitments to my family as well. I also have an absolutely fantastic team that really look after each other and are more than happy to juggle tasks between us as our individual workloads fluctuate. It’s a lovely environment, not only to manage, but also just to work in.

What direction do you feel design is moving in?

I feel like it’s a really exciting time for design. There are so many interior designers now and I think that is bringing real variety to the styles that we are being asked for. With more and more content on social media channels as well, people seem to have a clearer idea of what they want for their homes so that helps a lot in the design development stages.

Grade II Listed Duplex Apartment by John Cullen Lighting

Location: London, UK

Interior Designer: Tollgard Studio

Associated: Carpentry Division

Lighting Design: John Cullen Lighting

Photography: Richard Gooding

The challenge for John Cullen Lighting was to design a creative and flexible lighting scheme without the use of downlights in the main floor areas, where the ceilings were listed. The clients’ love for hosting cocktail parties and formal dinner gatherings inspired the team to create a dynamic lighting design that allowed them to change the mood of each space with ease. To achieve this, numerous lighting scenes were carefully curated in each room.

In the reception and dining rooms, a combination of bold decorative lights and integrated lighting was employed to provide a captivating ambiance. The team strategically placed 2700k Contour HD27 LED strips at the back of shelves, creating a dramatic effect and adding depth to the space. Miniature Vorsa Dots were used to illuminate artwork, adding a touch of sparkle to the room. Additionally, Contour HD27 LED strips were placed above joinery units to highlight the intricate ceiling cornice, ensuring it remained a prominent feature even at night.

Illuminating the artworks was another crucial aspect of the project. John Cullen Lighting carefully selected their Wallace picture light to enhance the art in the reception room, entrance, and stairs, adding an elegant touch to the overall design. Dramatic pendants, chosen by Tollgard Studio, became the key features in the dining room, staircase, and reception room, infusing these areas with character and charm. The architectural lights were discreetly placed and concealed from view whenever possible, serving to accentuate fabrics and furniture, adding interest and depth to the space.

Lighting By Plum needed a lighting scheme that would highlight the design and structure of the existing space by accentuating the ceiling heights and the flexibility of each room in the barn.

In order to achieve this result, the designers used some flexible tracks and suspended pendants throughout the space. All luminaires were carefully selected to work with the architecture but also to respond to the client’s needs and style - a modern and contemporary feel. Another key emphasis was to create a lighting scheme that would be simple, with clean lines and overall classic.

Lighting By Plum created a cohesive design by taking into consideration the flow of movement within the space as well as the definition of each living area by including variable layers of light for a specific setting. They managed to create a subtle balance between intimate and public rooms. The use of flexible and cost-effective track lighting allows to enhance and define the architecture of the barn; each room’s function is highlighted. The designers succeeded in creating a lighting scheme with depth and atmosphere.

While the interior lighting had to complement the vast amount of glazing and daylight, the selection of sustainable lights was another important part of the design process. A smart control system was specified to minimize energy use and to make sure this one will be used only when required.

This project works so well because it enhanced the use and flexibility of each space which was a key driver for their client. A strong study of the building was required to bring what the barn was missing: a comprehensive and eco-friendly lighting scheme for everyday use.

Oppostite Page: Rainbow Project by Key Interior and Designs

Photography: Paul Crawley

Above the coffee table is one of Key Interior and Designs’ signature Murano glass light installations in warm marmalade, crimson, azure and amber tones. This was recently installed into a residential project in London. Inspired by Dale Chihuly, the famous American artist who refined his art in Murano.

Designer, Rani Ahluwalia, loves designing with Murano glass. Its increasing rarity needs to be showcased and celebrated. This piece is instantly recognisable as Chihuly. Its asymmetry and iridescence are dreamlike and happy. Each piece’s rounded edges and undulating form make it appear to float below the ceiling. It’s incredibly organic. With the challenges being experienced by these multi-generational glassmakers of Italy because of the gas crisis, furnace time is limited. Therefore, something of this magnitude and colour is exceptionally precious and increasingly valuable. Murano glass art is something to covet and truly appreciate.

With her designs, Rani’s style is rich in colour and creative thinking. She likes to set her mind free and challenge herself and others to view things differently. She likes to maximise spaces and often starts with lighting, which is always thought provoking and innovative. As with the Rainbow project, the harmonious relationship between form and colour fills the area below with positive energy.

FOCUS, design by Yuji OKITSU by DCWéditions

Photography: Ian Scigliuzzi, Davis sakne, Clémentine Passet, Pauline Caranton, Vincent Leroux

DCWéditions has recently launched a stunning lighting piece that captures the imagination with its poetic and evocative design. Collaborating with Tokyo-based architect Yuji Okitsu, the company sought to create a lighting object that would evoke the same sense of wonder experienced by children when they see soap bubbles floating in the air.

The result is “FOCUS,” a mesmerizing suspension composed of luminescent discs suspended like a mobile. This aerial and poetic luminaire transforms any space it occupies, serving as both a functional light source and a luminous sculpture. The lenses of different sizes in Focus act as magnifying glasses, altering the perception of the environment from different viewpoints, creating a timeless and universally appealing design.

The FOCUS suspension is designed with a kinetic balance reminiscent of classical mobiles, enhanced by the addition of lighting that subtly diffuses through the prism lenses, casting mesmerizing reflections across the room. The luminaire’s visual impact is particularly striking in highceiling rooms, where it creates a dramatic and emotive effect. Beyond its functional and aesthetic attributes, FOCUS invites a reconnection with the sense of wonder that often fades with age. The lighting piece serves as a reminder of the beauty and magic present in the world, capturing the essence of childhood awe.

The design team at DCWéditions succeeded in crafting an emotionally impactful lighting object that transcends its utilitarian purpose.

Churchill View by Clive Christian Interiors

Photography: ZacandZac

Clive Christian Interiors has recently completed an exceptional bespoke kitchen project in a magnificent Victorian home located in Cheshire. The grand residence underwent a complete refurbishment by its new owners, who extended the kitchen and incorporated a leisure facility. This substantial three-year project by Clive Christian Nantwich involved numerous structural changes to the space, including the meticulous repair of original features, window and door relocations, and beam adjustments. The atrium was thoughtfully repositioned to sit over the island, enhancing the sense of symmetry, light, and spaciousness.

The clients entrusted Clive Christian Interiors to create bespoke cabinetry in white, based on the renowned Architectural Collection. The design also incorporated a breakfast bar area with stools at the timber island, providing a casual dining option. To accommodate family gatherings and informal get-togethers, a large dining table was included, alongside a comfortable seating area for relaxation and socializing.

Integrating technology into the kitchen was a priority for the clients, leading them to select Sub Zero & Wolf appliances. The kitchen features a spacious fridge/freezer, two ovens, a combination microwave, a steam oven, and a hob with four large gas rings and a hot plate/Plancha. Poggenpohl by Wigmore Kitchens

Poggenpohl, the renowned kitchen design company, has recently completed a remarkable bespoke oak/lacquered shaker kitchen project. The client’s vision was to have a German luxury kitchen with a unique edge, combining luxurious finishes and a prominent marble presence. The goal was to create a stunning space that catered to the needs of the family, the chef, and entertaining, while also meeting specific religious requirements. It had to be a true showstopper.

To achieve this, Poggenpohl meticulously hand-selected marble and incorporated a triple bullnose detail for the surfaces, adding an exquisite touch of elegance. The same detail was seamlessly integrated into a floating shelf, accompanied by a bespoke marble extraction unit. The design team paid careful attention to subtle details, such as the soap reveal in the wall and the incorporation of marble fascia for the hob controls.

The kitchen not only met the client’s aesthetic desires but also fulfilled their Kosher needs, allowing them to comfortably host dinner parties and embrace the space fully. As part of a complete property renovation, Poggenpohl extended the use of marble to other areas of the house, including the fire surround, a sideboard in the hall, and a vanity in the guest bathroom. This cohesive design approach created a sense of harmony throughout the home.

The doors of the kitchen were meticulously hand-finished, showcasing Poggenpohl’s commitment to craftsmanship. The stone surfaces were also hand-finished in specific areas to achieve the bespoke triple bullnose shelves, which were ingeniously supported to create a floating effect. This combination of meticulous attention to detail and skilled craftsmanship resulted in a truly unique and luxurious kitchen space.

www.poggenpohl.com

The design brief from the client was to use the large existing space to create a space to entertain in, where they could host all their friends and family that would have the space and the facilities to do that. It had to be functional for day-to-day needs but be able to transform into a social space that was both homely and welcoming at the same time.

The walk-in pantry is a key part of the project: from the crittal doors and natural oak worktops and shelves to the wine storage and the solid oak ladder, Herringbone Kitchens adore this walk-in pantry. The sky light makes it feel light and airy and the Coop Pink cabinet colour from Herringbone Paints is the perfect contrast to the dark kitchen. The double larder is a beautiful detail fitted perfectly against the wall. The natural finished oak used to make this unit has stunning detail and creates yet another wow-factor in the kitchen space.

This kitchen space just flows so perfectly. The lines are smooth, the symmetry is beautiful and the detail of the design intrigues anyone who spends time here. The kitchen is designed to be a social space for entertainment and functional on a day-today basis while still feeling homely and cosy any time of the day or year. In addition, this kitchen has extraordinary attention to detail, and is packed full of storage both visual to the eye and hidden out of sight.

It can be difficult to design a large open space and make it homely and seamless all at once. However, this kitchen achieves this with its connections to the bar, the walk-in pantry, the island, and the larder. Everything works together to create functionality and flows nicely into the lounge also.

The clients’ vision was to create a contemporary and glamorous space that harmonized with the architectural nature of the apartment, which boasts full height glazed windows and doors for a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.

A key challenge in the design process was the absence of internal walls and the presence of an open glazed staircase, making every element of the kitchen visible from all sides. Ledbury Studio rose to the occasion by conceptualizing each component of the kitchen in a freestanding context. The backs and tops of the tall cupboards were clad in polished fluted stainless steel, while polished mica panels and a backlit screen made from wooden slats with backlit opaque glass slivers added an intriguing visual dimension. Arik Ben Simhon 1993 Ltd has recently unveiled a stunning and innovative chair that seamlessly combines form, function, and design aesthetics. Crafted with an oak frame, the chair features a swivel wooden back covered with rattan, thick leather handles, and a padded seat. This new chair showcases the brand’s commitment to creating unique and ergonomic pieces that not only provide comfort but also elevate the interior spaces they inhabit.

The design brief for this chair was a masterful combination of ergonomic principles and artistic vision. Drawing from the designer’s experience with yoga, the chair was engineered to target a specific point in the lower back, promoting proper posture and providing much-needed support. The pivoting backrest allows users to lean back comfortably, exerting gentle pressure on the lower back, which helps stretch and alleviate tension in the area.

Beyond the ergonomic considerations, the chair’s design also reflects Arik Ben Simhon’s artistic sensibilities. The objective was to create a distinct form and then introduce an element of hollow space within it. This was achieved by incorporating bent wood, a technique that allows for the creation of curved and organic shapes. The use of bent wood leaves the chair’s entire internal volume vacant, resulting in a captivating interplay between mass and emptiness.

The chair’s key aspect lies in the mesmerizing game between volume and void. Its visually appealing design and thoughtful construction are sure to captivate anyone who encounters it. Not only does it stand as a functional seating solution, but it also serves as an artistic statement that adds character and elegance to any space.

Fromental’s Moderne collection is a paean to the bold, quirky, folksy pottery coming out of the French town of Vallauris in the 1960s and 70s. They have reimagined the joyously abstract forms associated with this period of ceramics as a large-scale tapestry wall hanging.

Naturally they could not resist using shimmering silver lurex threads to contrast with the wonderful natural tones of undyed wool.

When weaving at scale one is forced to use wool from several dye batches, which will vary somewhat in colour. Fromental have encouraged their embroiderers to embrace these natural variations with open arms. The brief was to design, and have made, a bespoke piece of cabinetry for a longstanding client’s new holiday home, that Anna Standish Interiors had been commissioned to design the Interiors for. This villa in the sun, needed a lighthearted, playful approach to its design. The design concept for the overall interior design scheme was to mix an element of ‘Miami penthouse style’ with the Modernist Mediterranean architecture. They wanted the piece of furniture to have a monochromatic look, referencing a retro 1980’s style, whilst made exquisitely by craftsmen in the UK. The designers looked for surface finishes that fitted their brief, and how to work with these to create pattern and form. All whist creating a functional piece of furniture, within budget. And this is how Archie Stripes was born.

Having multifaceted spaces was important for this client which is where SWD Bespoke comes in with their endless door solution ideas.

An entertainment room consisting of a home bar and golf stimulator was situated next to the kitchen and one of the biggest desires for the client was to have a door that would open up into this space when hosting. SWD produced a door that has never been made before where it measured a show stopping 2.8m x 2.4m. This was designed to be a pocket door for practicality and had a dual design to tie in with the interior scheme in both spaces. The door had a combination of two contrasting designs, on one side the door was a black stained oak with metal inlays which we produced to be the feature in the kitchen as the metal inlays tied in beautifully with the metal finishes used throughout the kitchen. On the reverse side of the door, the client aspired to have a room which had seamless panelled walls surrounding the room, which included the door opening. This side of the door was made with the same beading and panel design as the walls and even had skirting along the bottom of the door to make the blend even more flawless and to become completely disguised when the door was closed.

The design of this door is particularly clever as it is a feature whether it is open or closed. When closed the flush veneer side with metal inlays is a statement in the kitchen being the talk of the table. On the other side, the design was a panelled design which blended in with the wall panelling creating a seamless look throughout the home bar and golf simulator.

Verdures Collection by Pinton

PINTON, a tapestry weaving company with over 150 years of experience, has announced the release of its first collection of 100% French Jacquard patterns in cotton or cotton and silk. These patterns have been created from archival designs of the Flanders factory, which PINTON acquired. This move allowed the company to integrate Jacquard weaving into its already extensive know-how, expanding its range of textiles from carpets to rugs, fabric and tapestries.

The Jacquard loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in the early 19th century, has been a staple in the textile industry for over a century. PINTON Jacquard’s sophisticated technique can weave up to 105 threads per cm2, which allows for a large span of textures, designs and colours. Despite the limited number of colours on each loom being only 7 or 8, the crossing of the threads offers an extensive range of colours and hues, hence more than 500 possible colours per loom. Additionally, the Jacquard technique makes the fabric extremely resistant to deformation by stretching and tearing, which makes it suitable for various supports.

The PINTON Jacquard fabric can be plain with placed patterns or in an “all-over” style, which means a continuous and regular repetition of patterns over the entire surface. The PINTON Jacquard is manufactured in six stages, from the warping to the finishing touches, including the design of the cartoon. Nowadays, with the assistance of computer software, designers can create intricate patterns for Jacquard fabrics.

The new collection, traditionally named “verdures,” features intricate foliage designs created in “all-over” style. The fabric is sold by the metre to cater to the various uses that both private individuals and interior design professionals wish to make of them. PINTON’s collection of 100% French Jacquard patterns in cotton or cotton and silk is a remarkable addition to the company’s repertoire of textiles. www.pinton1867.com

These rugs not only visually captivate but also provide a tactile experience, enticing anyone who encounters them to touch and feel their exquisite craftsmanship. Loloey’s commitment to exploring new techniques and the skillful juxtaposition of materials shines through in each design, elevating the collection to new heights of sophistication.

Eikons seamlessly blends contemporary aesthetics with traditional charm, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of interior design projects. The variety of designs, textures, and natural warm colors lend themselves beautifully to both residential and hospitality environments. Whether used in homes or hotels, these rugs create a sense of timeless elegance and add a touch of luxury to any space.

The creation of the Eikon collection was a collaborative effort involving various departments at Loloey. The design team worked closely with the brand’s most skilled artisans in the mills to bring their vision to life.
