Multiple Flights Delayed and Canceled at Palm Springs Airport

A similar situation at Palm Springs International Airport, but on a much smaller scale. Airlines servicing the Western states, such as Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, are all experiencing problems.

The airport is packed with travelers trying to get home or to their destination this evening.

We’ve seen delays from major carriers like Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Delta Airlines, United Airlines, and Air Canada.

Smaller airlines such as West Jet and international airlines like British Airways, Qantas Airways, and Fiji airways

are also experiencing many delays and cancellations.

The lines here at the airport are long, with travelers either trying to reschedule or rebook with another airline.

As of 3:30 pm, the Palm Springs Airport recorded at least 23 cancellations and 47 delays, according to FlightAware.

Here’s what one traveler whose flight got canceled had to say, “It was canceled. I guess all of the Southwest flights were canceled. So now I’m just waiting in a long line to get new reservations whenever. I’ve also been on hold for about 47 minutes at the same

Justin Bieber is selling his career.

It is estimated at 300 million US dollars, and soon Justin Bieber (28, “Baby,” “Sorry,” “Love Yourself”) could be even richer.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Canadian pop star is about to sell the rights to his entire music catalog for a whopping $ 200 million.

Accordingly, Hipgnosis Songs Capital wants to secure the rights to Bieber’s songs for

this mega sum. The possible deal then includes Justin’s music albums, his numerous singles, and all collaborations.

Hipgnosis buys catalogs of songs from artists and makes money when their music is streamed online or used in films or commercials.

The company then receives all earnings from the music recordings and songwriter royalties. At the beginning of

the year, the company had already acquired the rights to Justin Timberlake’s (41) music catalog – for 100 million dollars. However, insiders say that the $200 million deal with Justin Bieber could go down as the company’s most extensive music rights acquisition.

Hipgnosis is run by former pop star executive Merck Mercuriadis (59, Beyoncé, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses).

He described owning song rights to the Guardian as an investment “as valuable or even better than gold or oil.” Because: “When people live their best life, they celebrate it with the soundtrack of the music. (...)

Music is always consumed.”

Many world stars have already taken the step of selling their song rights. Among them is the Colombian superstar Shakira (45), the US rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, singer-songwriter legend Bob Dylan (81), and the British musician Sting (71). Justin Bieber will soon be one of them.

Here the armored car brings the presents

While many children unwrap presents at Christmas, Sonja (9) and her family have to hold out in a basement - because of the continuous Russian fire.

For months, the Russian army and the brutal Wagner mercenaries have been trying to take Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, shelling the city with rockets and heavy artillery.

Groups of Russian soldiers keep pushing into the city’s outskirts, but the Ukrainian defenders have always been able to fend them off.

“It’s hard to live as a refugee, to give up everything.”

Months ago, the family home was severely hit by Russian bombs. However, the family wanted to stay in Bakhmut because their apartment remained undamaged, apart from the broken windows.

“It’s difficult to live as a refugee, to give up everything,” father Roman told BILD at the time.

Now, they don’t even have the apartment left on Christmas Eve. Several artillery shells hit the house, tearing holes in the walls. “The bombardment kept getting heavier; that’s why we moved completely into this basement,” says Svetlana.

The family lives with the dog Archie in two rooms – day and night. “We only step outside the door if the dog has to, but every step is life-threatening,” says father Roman. So then he puts more firewood to keep the room warm.

The family only gets electricity from a generator and only turns on their flashlights when absolutely necessary. Otherwise, a candle is their only source of light. In the semi-darkness, Sonja does arithmetic in her notebook; she hasn’t had school for a long time.

“I would like to have a Christmas tree like last year,” says Sonja, while the muffled roar of the Russian artillery shells can be heard in the basement.

Because it is too dangerous to take the artificial Christmas tree out

of her apartment, Sonja makes a Christmas tree out of paper and looks at photos from last year’s Christmas party on her cell phone.

“There is no internet connection down here, so we only get messages with a delay when we meet soldiers,” says Svetlana.

They only found out about the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj (44) to their city days later. “It’s good that he came to see how the situation really is, even though we didn’t see him,” says Svetlana.

Sonja would also have liked to meet Zelensky: “I

would have asked him when we would finally defeat them (the Russians, ed.) and the war would be over.”

The presents arrive in the armored car.

To make the children in the Donbas happy, Ukrainian soldiers near Sloviansk have thought of something special: They have decorated their Humvee for a holiday.

Lights flash on the vehicle and on the roof; where many Humvees have a heavy machine gun mounted, gifts are in order.

At the wheel: Taras, commander of a unit stationed near the front. Today he put on the

costume of St Mykola, who brings gifts to Ukraine.

When he and his team roll into the villages destroyed by Russian shelling in the Christmas Humvee on Christmas Eve, children immediately flock to the vehicle, recite poems, and receive gifts.

“We must bring some joy to the children who have been through so much at Christmas,” says Taras. So now the soldiers want to visit other villages near the front with their Christmas Humvee and give presents to the children – far away from their families and children.

Active crisis calls have jumped 50% in the run-up to the holidays, according to officials at the California Parent and Youth Helpline.

The helpline is staffed by trained professional counselors who can listen, help people with self-calming techniques, and direct the

caller to appropriate help. It’s open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., in English and Spanish, with translation services available in other languages.

Dr. Lisa Pion-Berlin, president and CEO of Parents Anonymous, which runs the California Parent and Youth Helpline, noted calls

have continued to grow.

“We have been getting increasingly urgent suicide ideation calls,” Pion-Berlin reported. “Kids are reaching out to us to text and live chat. So, we see an uptick in people calling us in the middle of a crisis to get vital emotional support. That has increased.”

She pointed out callers can also sign up for free online weekly support groups. The helpline is different from the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline because the helpline is tailored specifically to support children, teens, parents, and other caregivers. The number is 855-427-2736. People can also live chat on the group’s website.

Pion-Berlin added some people might feel more comfortable calling the helpline because it is not a government agency.

“At Parents Anonymous, we have a slogan, ‘Asking for help is a sign of strength.’ So whether you’re any age -- child, parent, grandma, auntie -- we want you to call, text, or live-chat the helpline to get that help early and before anything escalates,” Pion-Berlin explained.

Disclosure: Parents Anonymous contributes to our fund for reporting on Children’s Issues, Family/Father Issues, and Social Justice.

HOROSCOPES

A new phase of reality begins. Great aspirations push you forward into dedication and hard work. Your self-identity, sense of family and home, intimate relationships and professional career will change and expand. Work with others cooperatively. All that you aspire to do will come forth only if cooperation is foremost. Tend carefully to moods. Use them imaginatively to create all things new.

Your religion and spirituality, your mind (thinking, study, ideas), daily life, health, teaching and travel are all divinely influenced. Life will seem to be rather dreamy. You might not like this much as it feels impractical. However, it’s a time of rest and healing. Dreams help manifest long-held visions. Be in the Sun as much as possible. Write down plans and ideas. A new phase of life begins. Try not to be too distant with those you love.

New Year Resolutions for HOA Directors

When starting the new year with commitments to improve, maybe your HOA could also benefit. This fourpart series proposes resolutions for association directors, homeowners, managers and service providers.

As an HOA director, I resolve to:

FIRST: Always follow the Golden Rule.

CHECK MY ATTITUDE:

1) I don’t control my neighbors; I serve them. A servant leader’s attitude will help me to be less defensive and less stressed when board decisions are challenged or criticized.

2) Advocate our board follows the law and governing documents, spends money wisely, and preserves and maintains our community assets, while also enhancing the board’s relationship with our members. We will balance legal, financial, property, and community considerations in our association governance.

3) Remember that our volunteer positions are

different than our work. Unlike the workplace, we cannot fire our HOA neighbors.

4) Be aware that not all neighbors know their rights and responsibilities under the law and governing documents and will be patient and willing to explain our rules and decisions.

BE KNOWLEDGEABLE:

5) Review our governing documents (CC&R’s, bylaws, and rules).

6) Monthly review financial reports on budget, reserves, expenditures, and delinquencies.

7) Understand the Business Judgment Rule and always ensure the board has sufficient basis for each decision.

8) Encourage my board colleagues to join a Community Associations Institute Chapter, and take advantage of the written materials, seminars and classes CAI offers to volunteers.

IMPROVE BOARD MEETINGS:

9) Help to limit our open board meetings to at most 2 hours, with a goal of an average meeting length of 90 minutes.

10) Arrive at meetings prepared, after reviewing the

agenda and board packet.

11) Listen attentively during Open Forum without interrupting, giving my neighbors the same level of courtesy and attentiveness which I expect from them during the board’s deliberations.

12) Stay on topic during discussions.

13) Meet in closed sessions only when clearly necessary and authorized by law. Otherwise, I’ll oppose secret board meetings.

TEAMWORK:

14) Remember that my power as a director is the ability to vote. Even the president has only one vote. I won’t be a “Lone Ranger” – we will act by majority.

15) Encourage directors to speak their minds and I won’t be insulted when another director disagrees with me.

16) When disagreeing with my colleagues, will respectfully argue my point of view, but if the board votes against my position, I will support that decision, because I am loyal to the corporation and it has spoken.

17) Let the manager manage. I will not personally direct management (the board directs management) or vendors (our manager directs vendors).

COMMUNITY BUILDING

18) Be as open as possible. When a member asks for information or documents, I will first ask “why not?” rather than “must we?”

19) Encourage the use of committees, to share workload and provide members opportunities for involvement.

20) Communicate better and more frequently with our neighbors (members) with newsletters, web page updates, e-mails and/or bulletins.

21) Confirm our manager holds a professional designation from either Community Associations Institute or California Association of

relationships, love, friendship and romance. Avoid any major changes at the first half of the year. Instead focus on building a firmer foundation of security and creativity. New realities can emerge the last half of the year. Travel when you can. It brings you pleasure, excitement, friendships and relaxation. Have pride in your accomplishments, in yourself, and the important social role you play in the world.

PISCES

Rest more in the coming year. Focus, stamina and vitality return gradually. Remain conscious of fluctuating finances. You want Right Use of money and resources. Past friends and lovers continue to occupy your mind. Send them on their way with love and blessings. Or invite them along the Path. Not many will be able to absorb the fiery field of the Path. You will be called to leadership. Step into this with confidence. The many years of the past struggles have prepared you. January 6, 2023

Community Managers, qualifies as a California “Certified Common Interest Development Manager.”

22) Try to informally resolve disputes with members before “going legal.” We can always call HOA counsel next if our efforts fail.

LASTLY:

23) Follow the Golden Rule.

Feds Issue Warning About Student-Loan Debt-Relief Scams

strike down the administration’s plan to offer up to $20,000 in debt relief to low-income student loan borrowers.

Michelle Grajales, the Federal Trade Commission attorney’s staff attorney, said fraudsters are playing on people’s anxieties.

“A major red flag is any company that calls you up and asks you to pay now for help with your loans later. Because that’s something that’s specifically prohibited under one of the rules we enforce. And so it is doubtful to be a legitimate company,” she said.

The president’s debtcancellation plan is on hold while the litigation continues, so it is not processing any applications. The U.S. Department of Education website, studentaid.gov, has a link to sign up to be notified

if the program is restarted. The pause on federal student loan payments has been extended until the litigation is resolved. Contact your federal loan servicer is the best place to start for accurate information about your loans.

Some scams promise to reduce or zero out your monthly payment, and some target parents who have co-signed on Parent Plus loans. Grijales said the familiar adage applies: “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” she said.

“It could be loan forgiveness. It could be, ‘Hey, pay us X amount, and we’ll get your loans forgiven right now, or we’ll get some large amounts of your principal balance forgiven or canceled,’ right? And that might be a benefit the consumer doesn’t qualify for,” she said.

She added that other scams are circulating where they purport to be your loan servicer and ask that you route your payment through them. Other scams are intended primarily to get people to divulge their personal identity or banking information. For more tips, go to the Federal Trade Commission website.

How Cold Weather Activities Can Impact Heart Health

Clearing sidewalks and driveways of snow may be essential to keep from being shut in. However, when picking up a shovel or starting the snowblower, caution is necessary. Research shows many people face an increased risk of a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest after shoveling heavy snow.

In fact, snow shoveling is among the physical activities that may place extra stress on the heart, especially among people who aren’t used to regular exercise. according to the American Heart Association’s scientific statement, “ExerciseRelated Acute Cardiovascular Events and Potential Deleterious Adaptations Following LongTerm Exercise Training: Placing the Risks Into Perspective - an Update.” In addition, numerous other scientific research studies over the years have also identified the dangers of shoveling snow for people with and without previously known heart disease.

“Shoveling a little snow off your sidewalk may not seem like hard work,” said Barry Franklin, Ph.D., FAHA, lead author of the scientific statement, long-time American Heart Association volunteer, and a professor of internal medicine at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. “However, the strain of heavy snow shoveling may be as, or even more, demanding on the heart than taking a treadmill stress

test, according to research we’ve conducted. For example, after only 2 minutes of snow shoveling, study participants’ heart rates exceeded 85% of the maximal heart rate, which is a level more commonly expected during intense aerobic exercise testing. The impact is hardest on those who are the least fit.”

Franklin said winter weather, in general, can contribute to increased risks. Cold temperatures may increase blood pressure while simultaneously constricting the coronary arteries. Those factors, combined with a higher heart rate from extra physical effort, may increase the risk for acute cardiac events. Even studies show an increased risk of heart attacks among people using snowblowers. Similar to the exertion of pushing a shovel, pushing a snowblower can raise the heart rate and blood pressure quickly.

“The impact of snow removal especially concerns people with cardiovascular risks like a sedentary lifestyle or obesity. Also, being a current or former smoker; having diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure; as well as people who have had a heart attack or stroke,” Franklin said. “People with these characteristics and those who have had bypass surgery or coronary angioplasty simply should not be shoveling snow.”

Stop the activity immediately if you experience chest pain or pressure, lightheadedness, heart

palpitations, or irregular heart rhythms. Call 911 if symptoms don’t subside after you stop shoveling or blowing snow. If

you see someone collapse while shoveling snow, call for help and start Hands-Only CPR if they are unresponsive with no pulse.

The Right Way to Treat RSV—Respiratory Syncytial Virus

RSV is a common respiratory virus that most often causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two. However, as the CDC has noted, almost all children will have contracted the illness one or more times by the time they are two years old.

That said, as Dr. Albert Arteaga, CEO of LaSalle Medical Associates, said, “Sometimes RSV can have serious outcomes, especially in children less than oneyear-old, senior citizens, and immuno-compromised people.” Serious consequences may include the onset of bronchitis or even pneumonia.

available cure, there are three steps to treat the infection.

One, use over-the-counter fever reducers and pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Never give aspirin to children, as it could result in the child developing Reye’s syndrome, a disease that may cause seizures, coma, and even death.

Two, ensure the patient drinks plenty of fluids and stays adequately hydrated.

CALIF. Respiratory syncytial virus, better known as RSV, has been spreading rapidly this fall. Both children and

adults can easily contract this common illness, and since no vaccine or drug combats this infection, it’s essential to treat it properly. Also, like the flu or the common cold, you

can catch it more than once.

A virus is syncytial when its cells have more than one nucleus, resulting from multiple cells fusing together. Per the Centers for Disease Control,

RSV’s symptoms include runny nose, loss of appetite, coughing, sneezing, fever, and wheezing. In most cases, these symptoms appear in stages rather than all at once. In very young infants, “the only symptoms may be irritability, decreased activity, and breathing difficulties,” per the CDC.

No vaccine currently exists for RSV, although research to develop one is ongoing. Since there’s no readily

Three, and this is especially advisable, talk to your doctor before giving your child nonprescription cold remedies. Some over-the-counter medicines that are fine for adults may contain ingredients that should not be given to children.

“Parents of infants and seniors should see their doctor immediately if symptoms are not responding to treatment to make sure that the illness does not get worse and turn into a case of bronchitis or pneumonia,” said Dr. Arteaga.

SCOTUS Case from WA Could Have Implications for Unions

A case before the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington state could have significant implications for labor unions and their ability to strike. The case, Glacier Northwest versus the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, is scheduled for a hearing in January. It stemmed from 2017 when Teamster drivers for the cement company went on strike, causing the concrete in their trucks to harden. As a result, Glacier sued the union for monetary damages.

Elizabeth Ford, Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at the Seattle University School of Law, said a ruling in favor of Glacier could allow companies to shift the cost of striking onto unions.

“The idea that an employer can sue a union for damages caused by a strike and claim damages, money, against the union for going on strike

would be an incredible deterrent,” she said.

Ford said the National Labor Relations Act was created to protect workers’ right to strike, which is one of the foundational rights of unions outlined in that law from 1935. The Supreme Court case could challenge workers’ legally protected right to work stoppage.

Ford said it is impossible to predict how dramatic the decision will be. She said if the Court rules in Glacier’s favor, it could be a very focused ruling that only has implications in a small number of cases, or it might need to be worked out further by states.

“It would certainly raise the question with state legislators as to how or whether they can limit or adjust the kinds of causes of action that an employer might have against a union in the circumstances of a strike,” she said.

Simple ways to begin your morning

Ready, set, go. Just as you would set off at the starting line of a race, this hectic pace is how mornings begin for many men and women.

Instead of waking with dread to face another hectic morning, consider these tips for a healthier way to ease into your daily rituals.

While these activities may require you to allow extra time, you may be pleased with the productive results.

On Tuesday, Kremlin tyrant Vladimir Putin reacted to several countries’ price caps on crude oil. By decree, the Russian ruler banned the sale of oil to countries that had decided on a price cap on the raw material. The sales ban will come into effect in February 2023.

The decree states: “The supply of Russian oil and oil products to foreign companies and individuals is prohibited if the mechanism for fixing a price cap is directly or indirectly built into these contracts.”

The Russian government should set the exact date for oil products such as petrol and diesel, although it must not be before February 1st.

The export ban should apply for at least five months until July 1st. In addition, the EU, the seven leading western industrialized countries (G7), and Australia imposed a price cap of 60 dollars per barrel

this month. This applies to oil transported by sea from Russia.

This is intended to limit Russian export earnings and thus reduce the possibilities for financing the Russian war against Ukraine. Moscow had made it clear before the decision that it rejected the price cap. The Russian leadership speaks of a violation of the free market and has been announcing countermeasures for weeks. The ban was therefore expected. According to experts, it is still unclear whether the price cap will work. The rationale behind this is to exploit the dominant market position of Western shipping companies and insurance companies to prevent Russia from selling its oil on the world market on its own terms. However, there have recently been media reports that Russia has bought up large numbers of old oil tankers to ship the raw material with its own funds.

Then a camera pans to the driveway, where Ronaldo is walking with the kids and discovers the Rolls-Royce. And can’t get out of his amazement. To make HIM so speechless? She succeeded.

Quickly Ronaldo jumps into the runabout, and his kids take a seat on his lap and in the back seat.

The model didn’t pay for the car out of Ronaldo’s $450 million but pulled out her wallet and charged it to her credit card. Her own fortune is estimated at ten million euros. So it’s easy to make Schatzi a rich present.

Rodriguez and the soccer icon have been a couple since the fall of 2016.

Eve

While Palm Springs isn’t known as a major party destination, several events will make your New Year’s Eve one to remember. Coachella Day One 23 has many performers and artists and is a great way to start your New Year. You can also taste the entertainment at Del Rey Cafe, featuring live music and a champagne toast at midnight.

The Brothers of the Desert will celebrate their annual fundraiser with a live performance by a talented vocalist and a three-course dinner. In addition to the entertainment, a complimentary champagne toast will be held at midnight to ring in the new year.

Another exciting Palm Springs event is the first annual Coachella Crossroads, a

music festival that features several performers and entertainers. You will hear songs by E-40, Getter, and Tony Grandberry. It’s the first of its kind in the desert, and attendees will have a good time dancing, drinking, and singing their hearts out.

There are numerous other New Year’s celebrations throughout the area, including those at local hotels and resorts.

For example, in Desert Hot Springs, the Miracle Springs Resort & Spa has its ‘New Year’s Eve and their 25th Anniversary Party!’ If you are looking for a fun way to spend the night in the desert, you should ask your hotel if they have planned a New Year’s party. Many of them are happy to accommodate your plans, and you may even be able to secure a reservation.

However, be sure to plan and make your reservations early. Most hotels and resorts will

only announce events after the last minute, so check in before if you plan to attend.

The Escena New Year’s Eve Gala is another fun event. The opulent affair will feature a DJ’s set, a cash

bar reception, and dinner at 7:00 pm. The party will conclude with a fireworks extravaganza at midnight.

Happy New Year from the Desert Star Weekly Staff.

What to Do
in Palm Springs New Year’s
An oil production facility in Nefteyugansk (West Siberia) The world star is amazed! Ronaldo holds his child in his arms, and his jaw almost drops when he discovers his Christmas gift

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 onion, diced

2 pounds of ground beef

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin

2 teaspoons chipotle powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

15 ounces of canned corn, drained 15 ounces of canned seasoned black beans, drained 10 ounces canned diced tomatoes with green chiles, drained 15 ounces of canned red enchilada sauce

1 cup Mexican crema or sour cream

nonstick cooking spray

12 corn tortillas

8 ounces shredded Mexican blend cheese cilantro (optional) green onions, thinly sliced (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in a large pan or skillet, then add onion. Cook until softened, 4-5 minutes, stirring regularly. Add ground beef and cook, stirring regularly, until the meat has browned.

Add kosher salt, garlic powder, cumin, chipotle powder, and onion powder; stir well. Add corn, black beans, and diced tomatoes. Turn heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

In a bowl, combine enchilada sauce and crema; mix well. Spray the casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. Pour about 1/4 cup of enchilada sauce on the bottom to prevent the tortillas from sticking. Layer 2-4 tortillas across the bottom, then top with a ground beef mixture. Use a ladle to spoon some enchilada sauce mixture on top, distributing evenly. Top with another layer of tortillas, then repeat layers until the casserole is entire, 3-4. Top with shredded cheese. Loosely cover the dish with foil in a tent shape to help prevent cheese from sticking, then bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before serving. Top with cilantro and green onions, if desired.

The next time your loved ones crave a comforting dish warming from the inside out, turn to an all-time classic with a touch of southern flair.

Take inspiration for this Tex-Mex Beef Lasagna from season 3 of “BBQuest: Beyond the Pit,” a video series that dives into the longheld traditions, new flavors, and everyday inspiration that make Texas barbecue legendary. Developed from the show by BBQuest co-host and “Hardcore Carnivore”

cookbook author Jess Pryles, this tasty take on comfort food can be the perfect solution for a family meal with plenty of leftovers.

After dinner, settle in together and learn pitmaster techniques from the experts. The series follows four themes that capture the essence of Texas barbecue: legacy and tradition; creativity and innovation; Texas trailblazers; and family and community.

“Since launching BBQuest four years ago, it’s truly remarkable to see how much

has changed and yet stayed the same when it comes to Texas barbecue, and that’s exactly what you see in season 3,” said Rachel Chou, Texas Beef Council’s director of consumer marketing. “There has been so much exciting innovation around cooking methods and international flavors while there’s still a huge dedication to long-held recipes and smoking techniques.”

time. I’m hearing a lot of nice music. That’s about it.” says Coachella Valley resident Walter Reed, whose flight to Pittsburgh was canceled.

Many of these travelers were not notified about their canceled or delayed flights until they arrived at the airport.

Residents like Walter Reed say he’s lucky to have a place to stay when flights get canceled, but the situation is not as simple for those here on vacation.

From what travelers tell me, their flights will not be rescheduled until the first of January, leaving many finding alternative routes to get home.

you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code.

The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (844) 477-7869 or visit this Internet Web site WWW.STOXPOSTING.COM, using the file number assigned to this case 105464-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale.

NOTICE TO TENANT: Effective January 1, 2021, you may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last

and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call (855) 313-3319, or visit this internet website www.clearreconcorp.com, using the file number assigned to this case 105464-CA to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase.

Notice To Potential Bidders: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. Knowing the Signs of Stroke Saved One Man’s Life

A debilitating yet treatable common condition after a stroke

In the year following a stroke, about 1 in 3 stroke survivors will experience spasticity, a common post-stroke condition that causes muscle stiffness due to involuntary muscle contractions. Most commonly affecting the elbow, wrist, and ankle, the condition may make it difficult to do activities people could do before their stroke, like dressing, brushing their teeth, or walking.

More than 3 million stroke survivors may suffer reduced independence and increased reliance on caregivers due to spasticity. The condition is prevalent in younger stroke survivors.

After a stroke, the way your brain communicates with your muscles may change. Muscles may be stiff or resistant to stretching. They may involuntarily contract or have a smaller range of motion.

“While there’s no cure for spasticity, working with your care team to find the best treatment options for you can help provide comfort, relief, and independence,” said Richard D. Zorowitz, MD, past volunteer chair of the American Heart Association’s Stroke Council Rehabilitation and Recovery Committee and chief medical

informatics officer and outpatient attending physician at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network.

Some common symptoms include painful muscle spasms; difficulty stretching muscles; stiffness in the arm, hand, leg, and ankle; an arm folded and pressed against the chest with a curled wrist and fingers; an involuntary tight fist; pointed foot; curled toes; and overactive reflexes.

Spasticity can cause painful and debilitating bone and joint deformities if left untreated. Experts stress seeing a doctor as soon as symptoms develop. Assessment of the condition is critical in developing a treatment plan based on individual needs and goals, the severity of the disease, and overall health.

Management plans may include targeted injections of botulinum toxin, oral medications, intrathecal baclofen pump therapy, physical therapy, or other methods to improve the muscles’ ability to stretch and regain range of motion. Home modifications such as assistive devices and other adaptations to increase independence and safety may also help.

When Herbert “Hub” Miller worked as a global leader for an international agriculture science company, his boss ended every meeting with a reminder of the “FAST” acronym to recognize the signs of stroke: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, and Time to call 911.

“I’d sit back and think, ‘Here comes the whole FAST speech again; let’s move on,’” Miller said. “I didn’t know I’d ever use it on myself.”

In April 2021, Miller worked from home when he experienced throbbing head pain. Then, as other symptoms began appearing, the 42-year-old remembered those meetings and checked off the signs: His face was numb, his left arm drooped, and he struggled to form words.

It turned out to be a hemorrhagic stroke, a ruptured blood vessel bleeding into the brain. Miller’s odds of surviving weren’t good, but it wasn’t until he was recovering in intensive

care that he understood the full impact of the stroke. It caused abnormal increases in muscle tone, causing stiffness, pain, and spasms known as spasticity, leaving him with mobility and cognitive challenges.

After the stroke, Miller struggled with once-simple tasks like drawing a clock, completing a word puzzle, and playing memory games.

“Spasticity changed my life and added an additional hurdle to my stroke recovery,” Miller said. “Without being able to open and close my left hand, I can’t write, type, or drive like I used to. But, unfortunately, most of us take those things for granted until we can’t do them.”

Miller worked on penmanship while his youngest son learned to write in the first grade. Miller asked the teacher to send home extra worksheets, and the father and son did homework together.

“I don’t measure my success day by day, but when I look back to a year ago and where I am today, I am grateful every day for how far I have come,” he said. Family Features Source: American Heart Association
