PEOPLE OF WARREN COUNTY

Beware. You could end up with a casino near you.

The May 7th referendum isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t to vote on a casino proposal in Norwalk, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s to allow gaming anywhere in Warren County. Anywhere. Until 2021. Some things to consider as you cast your ballot: 1) The initial proposal calls for a 10-story casino/hotel on a piece of land in full view of the largest residential neighborhood in Norwalk, within 1,200 yards of an elementary school and 1.4 miles off the end of a runway from the Des Moines Airport. Needless to say, the proposed location is riddled with problems, and Warren County Economic Development officials are already beginning to change their stories on the details. 2) The Des Moines Register has reported the majority on the Norwalk City Council will be focused on the Norwalk precinct vote in the overall county referendum. In other words, they will act based on how Norwalk votes, not how Warren County votes. 3) There is a massive uprising against this casino in Norwalk. Vote No signs are everywhere, and when the largest residential development in Norwalk was polled, only 10% indicated they were in favor of this casino. Only 10%. Considering all of this, a casino at the proposed location in Norwalk is looking very unlikely. If this referendum passes, then they could push for a casino somewhere else in Warren County. Maybe on the North Side of Indianola by the new YMCA, or perhaps where Carlisle meets the bypass, or somewhere else in Norwalk. If you live in Warren County, THEN YOU ARE NOT SAFE! The ONLY way to prevent a casino from coming to your neighborhood is to vote no.
