1920 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines | HOMEOWNERS: Charles and Rhonda Nelson We worked with the Nelsons to update their kitchen so that it remained cohesive with the rest of the home. While the homeowners were fine with the kitchen’s layout, there were plenty of opportunities to maximize the space both functionally and aesthetically. The couple loves the beauty of wood, and chose cherry cabinets with elements that highlight craftsmanship and give the kitchen its own style while working with the rest of the home. The new cabinets are taller, increasing storage, and we maximized storage throughout the kitchen by selecting attributes that complement how the homeowners use the space. To better accommodate their lifestyle, we removed a small peninsula and replaced it with a larger peninsula that provides abundant storage
BEFORE and an expanded eating area. To lighten the space, we replaced fluorescent fixtures with pendants, recessed lighting, and a sun tunnel for natural light.

2540 Woodland Court, West Des Moines | HOMEOWNERS: Scott and Teri Thompson Scott and Teri envisioned a luxurious spa style master suite. Working with Kaufman Construction they were able to realize there vision – the bath was generous in size, but the shower was small and a unique alcove where the tub sat was under-utilized. A sitting room adjacent to the master bedroom was converted to the closet in order to expand the shower into the previous master closet and the large deck mounted tub was removed from the alcove and replaced with a gorgeous free standing soaking tub. The stark white and green finishes were replaced with warm luxurious materials. The result is a comforting retreat bathed in maple, walnut, quartz, porcelain and chrome. Additional warmth and comfort is provided by the heated tile flooring. The comfort extends into the master bedroom and closet where trim and floor coverings were replaced and walls and ceilings were given a fresh coat of earth tone paint.

While the master bathroom in this home was

clean and functioned well, it didn’t match the homeowners’ style. The large tub and small shower were basic and made the space feel smaller than it truly was. We started out by removing the oversized tub and walled in shower and replaced them with a large Tyvarian shower surrounded by clear glass. The extra space was then filled with a larger vanity and mirror, flanked by a pair of sconces. We also installed new windows and changed the configuration of the doors to allow more privacy in the bathroom. To complete the project we installed a hall bathroom that complements the style of the master bath. The transformation of these bathrooms makes them feel larger while keeping the same footprint and adding a spa quality that reflects the homeowners’ style.

The siding and windows had deteriorated badly, the deck was worn out, and the original roof was becoming a problem. On the interior, the space in the kitchen and eating area was exceptionally tight, and more garage space was needed. The problems were numerous, but the owners loved their neighborhood and their lakeside lot, and thus chose to remodel their home so they could continue to enjoy both. 684 Harwood Dr., Des Moines This kitchen is in a home that had not had an update in about 35+ years. The period of the home had the kitchen separate from a formal dining room and completely closed off from the rest of the home. We removed the wall closing the kitchen off allowing the kitchen to become a part of the main floor. We removed everything in the kitchen and took the walls down to the studs. We removed the bulk heads that were originally over the cabinets to allow the new cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling for maximum storage. New flat panel cabinets give the kitchen an update while allowing it to still feel “period correct” and not too modern for the age of the home. The slate backsplash and granite gave this kitchen an additional pop. Adding can lights to the kitchen gave ample lighting that was missing prior to the make over. We changed the 1960’s oven out for a
BEFORE new double oven and included a “pie refrigerator” for extra storage to accommodate the owner’s love of baking pies for charitable causes.

Come on out to Ankeny and see the magic we worked on this kitchen for Steve and Janet Drake. We were able to improve the function of the area, increase the amount of cabinet space and create a kitchen/dining area with a view out of almost every wall. All of this was accomplished while working within the footprint of the existing house. Kitchen remodels in particular take a lot of planning and design to try and incorporate the wants and wishes of the homeowner with the practicality of what can be done in a given area. Under the watchful eye of the homeowners, Doug our designer and Neal our onsite craftsman, a kitchen and eating area anyone would be proud to have became a reality.

This expansive covered porch provides outdoor living in many forms. This one porch incorporates a comfortable seating area, a built-in dining table, as well as a custom bar with a grill and refrigerator, all situated around a large woodburning fireplace and television. All of these features make the space perfect to host a dinner party, watch a ballgame or movie, or sit and converse with family or friends around a warm fire.
