Jokes The homeowner was delighted with the way the painter had done all the work on his house. "You did a great job." he said and handed the man a cheque. "Also, in order to thank you, here's an extra €80 to take the missus out to dinner and a movie." Later that night, the doorbell rang and it was the painter. Thinking the man had forgotten something he asked, "What's the matter, did you forget something?" "Nope." replied the painter. "I'm just here to take your missus out to dinner and a movie like you asked."

A Fairy Godmother told a married couple: "For being such an exempla-

ry married couple for 35 years, I will give you each a wish". "I want to travel around the world with my dearest husband" said the wife. The Fairy moved her magic stick and abracadabra! two tickets appeared in her hands. Now it was the husband's turn. He thought for a moment and said: "Well this moment is very romantic, but an opportunity like this only occurs once in a lifetime. So.....I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me". The wife was deeply disappointed, but a wish was a wish. The Fairy made a circle with her magic stick

and.....abracadabra!... Suddenly the husband was 90 years old. Reminder: Fairies are Female!

As a new bride, Aunt Edna moved into the small home on her husband's ranch near Snowflake. She put a shoe box on a shelf in her closet and asked her husband never to touch it. For 50 years Uncle Jack left the box alone, until Aunt Edna was old and dying. One day when he was putting their affairs in order, he found the box again and thought it might hold something important. Opening it, he found two doilies and $82,500 in cash. He took the box to her and asked about the contents. "My mother gave me that box the day we married," she explained. "She told me to make a doily to help ease my frustrations every time I got mad at you." Uncle Jack was very touched that in 50 years she'd only been mad at him twice. "What's the $82,500 for?" he asked. "Oh, well that's the money I've made selling the doilies."

Little Lucy was in the garden filling in a hole when her neighbour peered over the fence. Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was doing, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Lucy?" "My goldfish died," replied Lucy tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him." The neighbour was concerned. "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?" Lucy patted down the last heap of earth then replied, "That's because he's inside your cat!"

Hard work pays off later. Laziness pays off now!

Be nice to your kids. They'll choose your nursing home.

Joe MacGrath Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council said that "I am very pleased that this successful event is now being organised on a countywide basis and will follow on the recent

establishment of the Tipperary Local Enterprise Office ( LEO) bringing a clear focus on the range of measures to assist local job creation. I am grateful to all of the organisations and enterprise agencies who make this event possible" The organising Committee (chaired by Sinead Carr, Director of Economic & Community Development, Tipperary Co. Tipperary’s most influential urged to play their part with ConnectIreland Opportunity at ‘Who to Talk To’ event to help attract overseas jobs into the county TIPPERARY’S most successful entrepreneurs, start-up business owners and support agency representatives are all being encouraged to play their part in attracting overseas companies to the county and earn up to €1,500 per job rewards through a new initiative which is edging ever closer to its first 1,000 jobs for Ireland tally. ConnectIreland has worked with Irish people all over the globe to bring close to 20 overseas firms to Ireland over the past two years. Now Tipperary’s most enterprising business people attending the imminent ‘Who To Talk To’ event are being encouraged to play their part in bringing jobs to the region. Tipperary is ideally positioned to attract foreign direct investment, according to ConnectIreland’s James Steele who will deliver a series of short presentations at the one day event at LIT Thurles on September 10. “Overseas companies locating in Ireland want a skilled workforce; they want an accessible location and they want a quality of life for their staff. Tipperary ticks all the boxes,” Steele said.

“We look forward to interacting with Tipperary’s most innovative business people at ‘Who To Talk To’ and getting them involved. ConnectIreland is all about talking to others, making connections, selling Ireland and attracting business looking for a European hub into counties such as Tipperary.

“If people know of a company that wants to start a European operation, or to set up a new business from scratch, they just need to let us know. They then become a ‘Connector’. Our team works in partnership with the IDA, contacts the company and we take it from there. “If the company introduced begins to do business, we pay the Connector up to €1,500 per job in rewards. The potential for job creation in Tipperary is immense and we’ll be speaking to a captive, enthusiastic and ideally placed audience at this event,” Steele concluded. ConnectIreland staff will also host an information stand at the event where delegates can sign up as Connectors and learn how they can play their part in attracting expanding global firms into Tipperary. To learn more about ConnectIreland, log on to www.connectireland.com.

With his trademark loud Hawaiian shirts - he says he doesn’t tell dirty jokes, he tells clean jokes (it’s the minds of the audience that make them dirty) this Donegal comedian is a gag man of the old school – a banter merchant, in it for the craic. And he loves to interact with anyone in the audience who’s up for it, so come prepared.

He’s also well known for his comedic songs, including ‘Anna From Buncrana’ and ‘Horse It Into Ya, Cynthia’ which has had a colossal 330,000 views on YouTube. He has also released 10 DVDs and 32 CDs (2 of which are also on digital download), including the double-platinum selling ‘Conal Gallen: Live & Full of It’. Prayers The Miraculous Prayer Dear Heart of Jesus, in the past I’ve asked for many favours. This time I ask You this very special one (mention favour). Take it Dear Heart of Jesus and place it within Your own broken heart where Your Father sees it. Then in His merciful eyes it will become Your favour, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise publication and favour will be granted. Never known to fail. L.C. Miraculous Invocation to Saint Theresa O Glorious Saint Theresa, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I invite your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul, our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy Miracle”Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention here) and to carry out your promise of doing good upon earth of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfil your plea "to be made known everywhere." And I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen. Say this prayer everyday for 9 days, by the 4th day ask for a sign. If prayer is answered between 4th and 9th day you will see a rose in a magazine, T.V., Picture or receive roses at home even if no roses pesent. Must promise publication. Thank you. E.S. Counselling Anxiety

(continued from previous issue)

By Jim O’Shea Anxiety. Sleeplessness (contd.). Women seem to suffer from it more than men. It also seems to be more prevalent with older age groups (who seem to need less sleep than younger adults). Lifestyle, environment, personality and diet also determine ‘normal’ sleep for us. Depression, psychotic problems (e.g. schizophrenia), asthma, some medications, pain, alcohol or drug taking can cause insomnia. Some people claim that alcohol helps them to sleep. However, a new study carried out in May 2011 debunks the idea that alcohol promotes sleep. It is true that it helps you to get to sleep more quickly, but then its effect wears off and it disrupts your sleep. The 2011 study shows that sleep quality was far worse for those drinking alcohol that for those taking a placebo (a substance that has no therapeutic effect, but is used as a control when testing new drugs; in this case probably a non-alcoholic lager). The study also showed that alcohol had a more negative effect on women than on men. Their sleep was more disrupted, and they woke more often and for longer periods, probably because of sex difference in alcohol metabolism (breaking down the alcohol). Menopausal women are more severely affected. Neurological diseases such a Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s may also be a cause, although my mother, who suffered from Dementia, always slept well. Medical conditions can also be a common cause of sleeplessness. This in turn can trigger anxiety. Heart disease, for example, is seen as one cause. An overactive thyroid gland can also contribute to insomnia. Painful complaints such as arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis and any type of chronic (long term) pain or ache (especially back pain) can hinder a good night’s sleep. Men who have prostate problems may have to get up four or five times during the night to go to the bathroom, but prostatic hyperplasia can be dealt with through a medical procedure. Therefore, it is advisable to visit your GP for an examination to see if

your insomnia is caused by a medical condition. Treating the medical condition will obviously help with the insomnia. However, many men, who do not have prostate problems or any of these medical conditions, and women (who are blessed not to have a prostate) spend long periods of their lives waking up three and four times a night. Others wake up very early in the morning and are unable to go back to sleep. But, as the definition of insomnia given earlier shows, the real pointer to insomnia is not in the amount of hours required for a good sleep, but the fact that people who have insomnia wake up feeling tired and even exhausted, and find daily chores difficult. Generally, adults of all ages need an average of eight hours sleep a night (it seems to vary from five to ten hours per night), children attending school about ten hours, and infants can sleep for sixteen hours a day. Basically, we need enough sleep to awake refreshed. This will be different from person to person. Good quality adequate sleep is so important in our lives. We can put up with one night’s insomnia, but a series of nights without good quality sleep can be unbearable, and can cause anxiety and worry. Jim O’Shea works as a counsellor from Furze, Thurles.
