The Irishman doesn't say a word, reaches in his pocket pulls out a five euro note and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the Irishman's turn. He asks the lawyer, 'What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?' The lawyer uses his laptop and searches all references he could find on the Net.
He sends e-mails to all the smart friends he knows, all to no avail. After over an hour of searching he finally gives up. He wakes up the Irishman and hands him €500.00 The Irishman pockets the €500.00 and goes right back to sleep. The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer. The Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation for Confirmation emphasises the graces that the Spirit brings. It is intended that those preparing for this Sacrament would be enabled to see the Spirit working in their own lives.

Children preparing for Confirmation, usually in sixth class in primary school, often attend a retreat. Preparation also includes an Enrolment Ceremony/Ceremony of light. The children renew the Baptismal Promises made by their parents on their behalf when they were infants. During the Confirmation ceremony the Bishop (or the priest representing him) anoints the children with chrism and says the words ‘Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit’. The Bishop also lays his hands on the children in gesture of appointing or sending. The children are called upon to be active participants in the Church. At Confirmation children traditionally make a promise to abstain from alcohol/drugs for a given time. A Confirmation name is also selected and traditionally this was a saint’s name. In the presence of the community and with their support and prayers we are confirming the promises made for us at our baptism. We are now saying yes for ourselves to a Christian way of life and the community is witnessing that and promising to help us as we continue on the journey of faith. *Laying on of Hands In Old Testament times the laying on of hands was a sign of blessing. It was also a sign that the person was being specially chosen to do God’s work. Jesus laid hands on people to heal and bless them. The apostles used the laying on of hands to signify the coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-17). During confirmation the bishop and priests lay their hands over the candidates.
The Sacrament of the Eucharist - First Holy Communion The word ‘communion’ means to be united with. Catholics believe that in holy communion they are united in a special way with Jesus Christ, that they are sharing in the body and blood of Christ the Saviour. Holy Communion, and the whole service (Mass) is also known as Eucharist, from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving. The Sacrament of the Eucharist (First Holy Communion) is a Roman Catholic ceremony. It is the colloquial name for a person's first celebration of the sacrament of the Eucharist. The celebration of First Eucharist is a sacred and important moment on a long journey of faith development. Together with Baptism and Confirmation, it opens the door to full membership of the Christian community. At the ceremony, each child receives Communion, normally in the form of a small round piece of *Anointing with Chrism The anointing with oil is a sign that we are being strengthened by the Holy Spirit, that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are being given to them and that they are being blessed by God. Oil was used to anoint priests, kings and prophets in Old Testament times. The chrism oil used by the bishop at confirmation was blessed by him during the Chrism Mass during Holy Week. The candidates will be called by the name they

The Enterprise Board offers a wide range of business supports including grants, training, mentoring, management development, supports for websites, exhibitions, trade fairs and should be your first port of call if you need any of the aforementioned. The Tipperary North County Enterprise Board is running a series of training programmes over the coming months targeting owners/managers looking to improve the performance of their business or thinking about starting one. The programmes on offer include Mentors, Company Development, Sales & Marketing, Social Media, Primary Food Safety, Food Safety & HACCP, Advanced Food Enterprise Programme, Getting Irish Business On-Line etc. North County Enterprise Board is running an initiative developed by Blaise Brosnan MRI. This programme has been devised to assist owner/managers of businesses who have suffered badly during the recession but who are still in business and ready to dust themselves down and prepare for the next stage of their natural business cycle. This programme would also greatly benefit previous participants of Management Development programmes and consists of 10 modules and two confidential one to one mentor sessions. The ‘Accelerate – Driving Your Business Forward’, Management Development Programme designed by the Network of County & City Enterprise Boards will be repeated again this year. This initiative is aimed at existing firms, and will involve a mix of 6 intensive group training workshops and 6 x one-toone on-site trouble shooting sessions. Participation on this programme will be preceded by a valuable financial diagnosis of your business.

A Motivational Seminar with Kevin Kelly will take place in April in the Horse & Jockey; the Annual “Who To Talk To” Expo has been planned for early May at the Thurles Chamber Enterprise Centre followed in the first half of the year by specialist seminars on Intellectual Property, Patents & Copyright and the BeSMART initiative with the Health & Safety Authority. GET Local Empowering Sustainable Community Enterprise The last year has really been a rollercoaster ride, and the action plan has steadily evolved. Initially we started out as an agency that would map local resources, and help people get local energy and food projects going. What evolved was something more finely tuned around being an agency for enterprise creation, a way of making happen what we always wanted to do, which was to catalyze local self help projects. One problem we’ve had was in helping people understand what we are all about, and the name ‘LocalSwitch’ spoke for itself on one level, but it didn’t help explain what we were really all about, which is providing a platform to help people transform local economies through new local enterprise creation. So GET Local is the new name, almost unanimously agreed by everyone as being a far better tool for describing ourselves. The ‘GET’ is an abbreviation for “Growing Enterprise Together”.
PledgUp.com is a free service that helps community groups to get online donations for their projects. Once a group sets up profile on the website they receive a link to a personalised fundraising page that they can email to their contacts or post on social media sites asking for donations. The service allows groups to ask for straight forward donations or to look for financial sponsorship of events they are organising. The groups can also get all their members involved by inviting them to join. Once they do they also receive a personalised page and the amount raised by each person is shown to the entire group. Natures Balm—The Rub Grannies Home Remedy Over 100 years old The Story by Dorrie Killeen The Rub is an old herbal remedy that was in my grandmother’s family for generations. In 1890 a young teacher Annie Murray whose family came from Rathmoylan in Co Meath took up a post outside Athlone in a South Roscommon National School a few miles west of the Shannon. She met and married my grandfather Thomas Feeley and Roscommon was to become her home for life near the shores of Lough Ree. She brought with her a recipe for a substance made from herbs oils and salts that had been used by her family for generations for pains aches and inflammation. In 1991 searching her old medical book entitled ‘The Household Physician’ for information I found the recipe and made it up for an elderly man who had very bad arthritis in his hands, knees, ankles and shoulders, he came back the following day after using The Rub twice and said he was able to walk up the fields for the first time in three years and that was the rediscovery of The Rub 20 years ago. My
grandmother used to say ‘for every illness a herb grows nearby’ Over the years I’ve studied the science of herbs and nutrition and collected lots of old traditional remedies. Allegience – a night that changed history Written by Mary Kenny, Allegience is the dramatization of actual events that changed history. In 1921 Eamon de Valera ordered Michael Collins under sufferance, to travel to London, with the Irish delegation, to negotiate the Treaty that followed the Truce and the War of Independence. Winston Churchill was Colonial Secretary in charge of Ireland, and the two men were prepared to detest one another. Yet, at a point when the Treaty talks seemed to be in stasis, Churchill and Collins spent a night drinking together, talking, arguing, even singing and reciting poetry.
They emerged from this session fascinated by each other. After this, Winston Churchill softened towards Ireland, and gave Michael Collins and the Irish Free State every support he could. The play is a moving portrait of two men who were antagonists, and yet, at a certain level, comrades, each recognizing the qualities of the other. Not many people know this but Churchill had as many links as Collins to north Kerry having spent his childhood summers as his cousins' estate of Tarbert House .This play also had a very successful run in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006 starring Mel Smith as Churchill with Michael Fassbender reprising the role of his direct descendant

They are now found throughout the country, all though urban Magpies still retain their wariness around humans. I have often observed this behavior in town parks where Magpies keep well away from people while other birds approach begging for food.

The Urban Countryside - The Magpie While many species of birds are welcome visitors to our gardens the Magpie unfair reputation as just a nest thief makes his stay less certain. Like all members of the crow family these are highly intelligent and adaptable birds. I have always liked Magpies and when I was growing up a pair built their nest each year in a Hawthorn tree bordering a neighbour’s garden. We were often regaled with stories of how they collected shiny objects including watches but we could never make it past the tangle of thorns and brambles to see if there were any treasures lurking in the nest.

Counselling Anxiety By Jim O’Shea These articles will explore such debilitating anxiety, which is a feeling of intense fear at some imminent disaster, or a feeling of fear and trepidation that has been building up over a period of time. It has been described as a pervasive state of dread. There are many different types of debilitating anxiety. The following are the ones I will look at - generalised anxiety, performance anxiety, social anxiety (social phobia), phobias such as agoraphobia, claustrophobia, insomnia, panic disorder, hypochondria, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A phobia is an exaggerated fear of something harmless. This could be some object, activity, or circumstances that present no threat. Phobias are irrational, but have a rational root sown sometime in one’s earliest life. For example, a person with a phobia of swimming may have had a frightening experience as an infant when being bathed. This type of phobia may be ingrained in our core, but evokes little sympathy, except perhaps mockery, because others do not understand it. Factors that make some people vulnerable to getting anxiety. It seems that people who suffer from what psychologists call neuroticism or emotional instability are more vulnerable to anxiety and stress than others. Psychiatrists no longer use the term neurotic, but it is a handy framework in the context of anxiety, which is at its core. It comes from the word ‘nerve’, and some of us are of the age to remember older people saying things like ‘so and so is suffering from the nerves’. Neuroticism is classed as high or low.
Neuroticism, however, is not psychosis. Those who have some of the symptoms of neuroticism are not out of touch with reality. Personality disorders may also be part of neuroticism, and these disorders tend to make the sufferer difficult to cure in terms of getting rid of the anxiety. These symptoms make a person more prone to getting anxiety complaints. Anxiety has symptoms, which, unfortunately, some of you may be familiar with. Now, I should stress that these symptoms may not always indicate anxiety, but may be connected to some other complaint. These symptoms are psychological, physical/somatic, and behavioural. Not every sufferer experiences all of these. Different people have different stress triggers that bring on anxiety, and these are more apparent in the individual types of anxiety and phobias that will be dealt with in these articles. On a psychological level, if you are angst-ridden you have an internal warning system that is never switched off, and you are constantly on the alert, and constantly worrying. You may experience anger and be constantly irritable. You may be generally pessimistic and see the glass as half empty rather than half full. Managers, for example, find it difficult to work with anxious subordinates, because they always see the problems and never the solutions, or the way forward. Worse still, they see catastrophe in many harmless situations.
