Cloughjordan Cub Scouts Cloughjordan Cub Scouts headed for Srahan Scout Centre recently for an action packed weekend. On arrival at the Hostel all acquired their bed and unpacked. On going with the One Programme, itineries were drawn up for the weekend duties, all got involved in planning and preparing. On Saturday we braved the mixed weather conditions (including sun and hail) for a hike. After a well deserved lunch we headed for Roscrea Swimming Pool, where some Cubs earned their swim badge, well done to all concerned. Back to base for dinner, then fun and

Tipperary GAA Scene By Ger Ryan PRO Munster SH Championship We wish the Tipperary hurlers the best of luck as the start the defence of their Munster senior hurling championship title at Semple Stadium on Sunday next at 4pm against old rivals Limerick. Tipperary and Limerick have met on 63 previous occasions in the senior hurling championship. All but two of those meetings – the 2009 All Ireland semi-final at Croke Park and the 2004 Qualifier at the Gaelic Grounds – were Munster Championship fixtures. Tipperary leads the way on 32 wins to Limerick’s 21, with 10 games drawn. Tipperary also received a walk over in the Munster semi-final of 1899 and Limerick had a similar experience in 1902. Tipp won 9 of their 32 successes by a goal or less while Limerick won 7 of their 21 by a goal or less. Their last meeting in the championship was the 2009 All Ireland semi-final which Tipperary won by 6-19 to 2-7 at Croke Park while their last Munster championship meeting was the Munster semi-final second replay which Limerick won at the Gaelic Grounds by 0-22 to 2-13 after extra time. That game was Limerick’s last victory in the Munster senior hurling championship. Tipperary have won 8 games in the Munster championship since then including 3 finals and lost once against Cork in 2010. The referee for Sunday’s game is Barry Kelly of Westmeath. The winners will play Cork in the Munster semi-final on Sunday June 24th while the losers go to the qualifiers.
Munster SF Championship Good luck to the Tipperary senior footballers for their clash with defending Munster champions Kerry at Semple Stadium at 2pm Sunday next May 27. We would encourage Tipperary supporters to come early and give vocal support to the footballers who will start as outsiders against the men from the Kingdom. It will be the third year in a row that Tipp and Kerry have met at Munster quarter final stage and Kerry are looking to achieve a 3 in a row of victories over Tipperary. Interestingly, just as with Limerick in hurling, Tipperary have played 63 championship games against Kerry, all in the Munster championship. Kerry won 53, Tipperary won 5 and 5 games were drawn. The last time Tipperary beat Kerry was in the 1928 Munster semi-final on a scoreline of 1-7 to 2-3. Tipperary have had a poor record in the Munster championship in the last
decade with their last win coming in the 2003 championship when they defeated Waterford in the Munster quarter-final at Dungarvan by 0-18 to 1-12. They were subsequently beaten by Kerry in the Munster semi-final at Tralee. The referee for next Sunday’s game is Marty Duffy of Sligo. The winners of Sunday’s game will play Cork in the semi-final at Paice Ui Chaoimh on Sunday June 10 at 2pm. The losers go to the qualifiers.
Tickets For Munster Championship Games On Sunday Tickets for Sunday’s games are still on sale through clubs, online at tickets.ie andticketmaster.ie and through selected Centra and Super Valu stores. Ticket prices are €30 for covered stand, €25 for uncovered and €15 for terrace. Concessions for OAPs and students will apply on stand tickets only, they will get a €10 refund at specified stiles on the day on production of valid ID. Family tickets (Adult uncovered - €25, juvenile €5) are available in the Old Stand only and should be ordered through clubs or online. Tickets will also be on sale on the day at Morris Park and both ends of the Thurles Sarsfields pitch. However, supporters are advised to purchase tickets in advance to avoid queues and possible delays.
Munster Intermediate Hurling and Junior Football Good luck to the Tipperary intermediate hurlers and junior footballers for their Munster championship games against Limerick and Kerry respectively at MacDonagh Park Nenagh on Saturday next May 26. The football game is at 5.30pm and the hurling game is at 7.30pm. The footballers under manager, Jim O’Meara of Grangemockler / Ballyneale and the hurlers under manager, Michael Ryan of Fethard have been preparing diligently in recent weeks for these games and we would encourage as many people as possible to come and support them on Saturday evening. The football team is captained by Richard Power of Moyle Rovers and the hurling captain is Eddie Connolly of Loughmore Castleiney.

Tipperary GAA Scene (Continued) Congratulations to the Tipperary minor footballers on their victory by 1-10 to 0-9 over Cork in the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Minor Football Championship semi-final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Wednesday last. Kerry defeated Clare by 0-17 to 3-4 in the other semi-final. Tipp will play Kerry in the final on Sunday July 8 at 12 noon. The venue is yet to be decided. Although Tipperary defeated Kerry in the first round, this is no guarantee of success in the final so David Power and his management team will no doubt be preparing with caution and diligence for the final in which Tipperary will be attempting to retain the title for only the second time. The last time they retained it was in 1935 when they were also defending All Ireland minor champions.
Tipperary V Kilkenny at Gortnahoe Tipperary will take on Kilkenny in an Under 21 Inter County Tournament Game on Sunday evening next May 27 at the Gortnahoe/Glengoole GAA club grounds. This tournament game in honour and memory of the late Tom O’Hara is sponsored by Gerry Chawke. A competitive game is expected as both teams look to finalise preparations for their upcoming championship matches. The game will throw in at 7pm and will be refereed by Paddy Ivors.
Tipperary Clubs Draw The Draw Committee have decided to delay the first draw of 2012/13 until June 8 in response to a request from clubs who are reporting great interest in the draw, but many of whom are still in the process of selling it to both new and existing members. This is a very special draw with 25 cars to be won marking the 25th Anniversary of the Tipperary Clubs draw. In addition, there will be 25 prizes of €500 each month for the entire 12 months, and of course the weekly lotto of €1,000, and all this for a membership of €100. The membership can be paid by direct debit, monthly at €10, 5 x€20, 2 x€50 or a single payment of €100. To acknowledge the great being done by all our Club Co-ordinators and promoters, the Draw Committee have introduced a very special prize of a car this year which will be drawn among all promoters and club co-ordinators. A promoter needs to have a min of 10 members to qualify and will get an extra entry in the draw for each 10 members he or she has signed up. Many clubs
have recruited new promoters this year and part of our reason for delaying the first draw is to give them an opportunity to sell the draw to new members in their area. Every club in the county has benefited from the draw over the years and for many clubs it is their single biggest source of finance to run their club. We urge every club officer, co-ordinator and promoter to make maximum use of these few extra weeks to sell the draw, there are many people out there who are only too willing to support our clubs and the GAA in Tipperary if they are asked.
Waterford 11 a Side SH Tournament Waterford County Board and Waterford IT are running an 11 a side senior hurling tournament on Saturday June 16 at the National Hurling and Camogie Development Centre in the WIT Sports Complex. It is hoped that this will become an annual event and will involve senior club teams from Waterford and other counties. In the first year it is intended to have 16 teams taking part. The winners will receive a set of jerseys from Azzurri Sports along with medals / plaques. Group games will run from 11am to 3pm, with the quarter finals at 3.15pm, the semi finals at 4.15pm and final at 5.15pm The cost per team is €150. Food will be provided for all teams - 16 players & 4 mentors. Places are limited and the closing date for registration is May 31. The entry fee of €150 must be paid by June 6. Contestants for the Hairy Tulip with the Tipperary Rose
The Hairy Tulip competition takes place on Saturday June 30th 2012 in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary in aid of the Nenagh Rape Crisis Centre. Eighteen men from all walks of life in Tipperary will be dressing up and entering this year’s Hairy Tulip. Already the competition is building and all the men participated in a photo shoot last week. In attendance at the photo shoot was Lisa Hickey, Tipperary Rose who was on hand to give the men ‘beauty tips’. The lineup for the competition is almost complete with the entries so far including Miss Spanner, Mis Laid, Mis Treat, Scarlett Charlotte, Miss Tess Tickles and Connie Della Haney. Of course the competition wouldn’t be complete without our very own Mrs. Brown!! A final qualifier is taking place at Bobby Reidy’s Newtown in 2 weeks’ time and this promises to be hotly contested for the final place. The committee has been working to secure volunteers such as make up artists and wardrobe assistants. On the night, MC Martin Langton will put the Tulips through their paces and a judging panel including guest judge, Tipperary Rose, Lisa
Hickey will decide the winner. In addition to raising funds and awareness for Rape Crisis Midwest in a good natured way, this pageant also hopes to challenge the stereotype that Rape Crisis Centres are just for women. Rape Crisis Midwest provides free, professional counselling for male and female survivors of all forms of sexual abuse. Rape Crisis Midwest recognises that it can be extremely difficult for men to come forward and look for help. Men frequently feel isolated and alone as there is little talk or understanding of the sexual abuse of boys and, particularly, of the sexual assault of adult men. Myofascial Release Therapy. Massage and other types of hands-on therapy may only give temporary relief. So what is Myofascial Release Therapy? It is a specialised hands-on treatment, combining soft tissue techniques and muscle energy knowledge. Each individual muscle has a particular resting position, in which the release therapy will be highly effective. Once the release has been performed, the clinician may release secondary Myofascial trigger points to give greater relief to the patient. Stretching techniques and other modalities may then be used to optimise results before treatment is finished. The physiotherapist may also give the patient some home exercises to adhere to, to encourage the problematic muscle to return to normal functional capacity. Treatment will continue until either there are no palpable Myofascial trigger points, or until the patients complaints have been alleviated. It is important that when seeking treatment from a Physiotherapist, to ask if they are a “Chartered Physiotherapist”. Great success was enjoyed on Saturday night, 19th May, at the Helix Theatre in Dublin when members of the Devil’s Bit Club won First Place in the Set Dancing competition at the Macra na Feirme National Talent Competition. The victory was all the greater given that this was the first time Devil’s Bit Club had entered the
competition. The road to All Ireland glory was a long one. Having first qualified as Tipperary Champions back in March at Boherlahan Parish Hall they next went on to perform at the National Semi Finals in Bru Boru, Cashel on May 4th, where they successfully qualified for the next and final round.
Grace Dunne, Sarah Dunne and Niamh Ryan, winners of the 12-15 Trio Competition in the recent County Fleadh. The girls now go on to represent Tipperary in the Munster Fleadh to be held in Dungarvan in July

Depressed people tend to blame themselves for bad events, while they forget about and give others credit for good events. They also give up too easily and have low expectations of themselves. They think that they are different from others, that they are damaged. They have learned this, often during childhood. Remember, that what is learned can also be unlearned. Self care is vital for us all, and particularly for depressed people. Practise good self-care. Listen to messages from your body. Your body is as intelligent as your mind. Depressed people abuse themselves by not eating right, not exercising, and so on. They deny small aches and pains and allow them to build into something serious. Eat healthily, and allow for pleasure in your life. It is easy for a depressed person to lose perspective. Depressed people are strongly tempted to control everything, and sometimes these may not be worth the struggle. Many things that worry us are not important. We cannot change everything we want to.
