Friday 5 July // 1pm Keynote Presentation

Phil Taggart’s ‘The Slacker Guide to the Music Industry’ At 1pm there will be a break-out session with Phil Taggart, Radio 1 DJ... What do Biffy Clyro, Run the Jewels, Charli XCX, and George Ezra all have in common? Aside from selling a truckload of records and defying the gloomy predictions about the music industry, they’ve all given up their hardearned wisdom to contribute to the one-stop-shop for everything you’ll ever need to break into the frightening world of being a professional musician. But this is no scam or ‘get rich quick’ scheme - Phil Taggart’s ‘The Slacker Guide to the Music Industry’ uses the knowledge of the people who’ve navigated the difficult waters of the music industry to ask all the questions you never even knew you had to ask, such as: At what point do I need a manager? What is sync? What does a sound person even do, anyway?! Phil said: “There are so many moving parts to the music industry to get a handle on when you are just starting out. Hopefully the last few years gathering the great and the good of music together for this book will help a little bit and free up some brain space to focus on what’s important - playing and performing. Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) has an uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last duck-out before graduation, he calls in sick, “borrows” a Ferrari, and embarks on a journey through the streets of Chicago.

Richard Linklater’s ‘Spiritual sequel’ to ‘Dazed & Confused’ finds him ambling through the past with a talented cast, a sweetly meandering story, and a killer classic rock soundtrack.
