Juxtaposition of new and old The site is situated right in the heart of Sheung Shui, between the web of new commercial centres and the old Shek Wu Hui town. Making use of the contrast of new and old, busy and relaxing observed around the site. There is a potential of this site to integrate the advantages of the new and old building typologies, to make a difference and restore the lost character of the area.

Commendation Clifford Chun-Fai Wong Prize in Housing Design A housing project in the heart of Sheung Shui, in between the historic market and new developments . New types of public spaces are possible.

Place-making by social housing This studio investigates contextual response and place-making in an urban area in Sheung Shui, Hong Kong. The brief requires students to create a building housing 50 flats of different sizes and public open spaces on street level.

Fading local identity replaced by parallel trading shops and cruciform residential towers

My proposal aims to revitalise the small industries which are fading away due to rapid urban development and to improve the sociability of private residence by connecting the private residetntial flats with an atrium. The design introduces 15 live-work studio flats connected to the public atrium. Also, door fronts of all private residents are connected by a full height natural lit atrium. Introducing lively public and semi-public communal spaces in an overcrowded urban area. -7-
