Hospital and GP Carers Awareness Changes in benefits

Carers needed!

Following changes in Disabled Living Allowance (D.L.A.) and Personal Independence Payments (P.I.P.), the number the people accessing the South Derbyshire office has increased dramatically. Many are struggling with forms relating to their caring role, a quick solution may be the on-line information for benefits at the directgov.uk.

Derbyshire Carers Association is working with hospitals and GP’s surgeries to deliver Carers Awareness Training and raise the awareness of Carers within Health settings.

In the past we have delivered training to Nursing and Social Worker students at universities Helen Weston but now, to compliment the very successful Carers Pledge, we will be delivering Carers Awareness Sessions to new employees at hospitals and in the Community as part of their induction. To emphasise what Carers’ roles and responsibilities are, we would love to invite Carers to come along to these sessions and talk to health professionals about their Caring journey and experiences.

If you would be interested in joining the Carers Awareness Team, please E-Mail: Helen Weston: helen.weston@derbyshirecarers.co.uk or call: 01246 222373. All expenses will be reimbursed.

If you don’t know what benefits you may be entitled to, visit www.entitledto.co.uk for details, if you don’t have access to a computer, contact Welfare Rights Benefits Helpline, 11am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday, on 01629 531535 or phone our office to access the computer here. Many of our Carers are accessing respite breaks at Kiloran in London - and several will be sharing their experiences with us later in the year.
