WHAT TO

Wear

Summer months can be super busy with parties every weekend, leaving little time to actually prep and plan. Like most high school seniors, invites are pouring in and finding outfits that can serve double duty is where it’s at. Whether it’s a sit-down dinner, an outdoor BBQ , or family function, making sure your outfits are easy enough to transition from day to night is key to making sure you really can do it all. Don’t forget to layer up or down. Adding lightweight layers for easy breezes or jackets for outdoor concerts gets the most out of what you already have in your wardrobe. The easiest way to change up a look is to switch your accessory color schemes. Changing the color of your layers and swapping accessories can transform your look from sweet and simple into gorg and glam quicker than you can double tap.

WHAT TO

Give

Never show up empty handed. Even if it’s something small, a gift to show your gratitude can go a long way. Candles, roll-on perfumes, small frames, and chocolate always fit everyone. And, if you’re showing up at a friend’s home for an event, bring their mom or the person hosting a gift too. Remember, it doesn’t have to be expensive, just meaningful. But, Rockies tickest aren’t bad either. Puff Ball Soy Candle, $35, Cards, $5; Wish Gifts. Glow roller-ball perfume, $20; SHEA Boutique. Rockies Tickets, starting at $15; online.

AND A FEW

Tips

to make sure you get invited back RSVP on time. Dude, don’t be rude, people need to ensure they’ll have enough refreshments on hand to keep the party going.. Don’t be a party pooper. If there’s games going on, please participate. You might be surprised at your croquet skills.

Before you leave, offer to help clean up and make sure you say “Thank You” right before you walk out the door. Every time.

WRITTEN BY: ELLA ZEILER @ellaaaellaaa PHOTOGRAPHED BY: NOAH BERG, NOAH BERG PHOTOGRAPHY, @noahbergphotographer MAKEUP BY: ALCHEMY FACE BAR, @alchemyfacebar SHOP MIDNIGHT RAMBLER AT 2438 W. 44TH AVE. AND ONLINE AT WWW.MIDNIGHTRAMBLERBOUTIQUE.Com @MIDNIGHTRAMBLERBOUTIQUE

Ashley Fankhauser’s boutique, Midnight Rambler, is where Boho and Rock ‘n Roll meet the Colorado West. Carrying everything from swimwear and jewelry to vintage clothing and alternative wedding styles, Midnight Rambler, located in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Denver, is everything a boutique should be: unique. At a young age, driven by a passion for fashion, Ashley knew a traditional office job was not in her career path. Gaining much of her influence from her mother’s work in wholesale and retail, she first worked in clothing stores and boutiques. A few years ago, her involvement in the fashion industry brought her to the realization that the city lacked fashionable places not only for her to shop, but for other girls to shop as well. “This came out of my love for fashion, but also my own annoyance that there wasn’t a place that I liked to shop in Denver.” As a result, the one-of-a-kind boutique was born. Midnight Rambler, as Ashley describes it, is “for the cool girl who goes to concerts, is a part of nightlife, and is rambling around at midnight.” Midnight Rambler is a one-stop shop for all fashion necessities, with a focus on dresses, but this isn’t a place for fashion basics. “We like to keep it fun and different,” she says. “Although we do carry some basics, that’s not really what you come in here for.” Ashley says, in noting that about thirty percent of the boutique’s inventory is dresses, that “We believe as women, the one thing we are always looking for is a dress. Whether it’s for a friend’s bridal shower or a wedding, any event, we’re usually expected to show up in a dress.” There are typically four pieces of each style stocked; an extra small, small, medium and large. Midnight Rambler carries rare pieces, specifically dresses for guests who are assured of arriving at any event without fear that someone else will be wearing their outfit. Ashley states, “You know if you get it here, no one else is going to have it.” Customers come into Midnight Rambler expressively for distinctive, event-ready styles. Whether it is an engagement party, wedding, or the need for a bridesmaids dress, the boutique carries various brands and labels that keep guests not only on-trend, but unique too. The Midnight Rambler website is also where Ashley shows off her favorite styles and trends. With sections like “Guest of Wedding,” where customers can browse wedding styles exclusive to the brands the boutique carries, and “Boho Bride,” which holds alternative bridal pieces, as well as honeymoon necessities like swimsuits, girls will be ready for any and all aspects of an event.

Carrying several coastal brands, Ashley believes it is important that her boutique and clothing had a western flare for which Colorado can be known. Midnight Rambler is highly influenced by Ashley’s own style, as she picks out all of the items herself. In addition, she also sells pieces that she wouldn’t wear, but that her customers, perhaps, would love. It has become important to Ashley that the clothing keeps its “Colorado Mountain-ness.” That is, when she chooses pieces from more coastal areas, she adds a western look that is unique to her own character, as well as Colorado’s, style. The majority of the brands Midnight Rambler carries are slow fashion, or not made for a big mass market. Consequently, Ashley picks the designs displayed in her store up to nine months in advance, flying out of state four to five times a year to see what styles and eventready fashion she wants to have in the boutique for each season. Ashley continues to market her boutique primarily on Instagram, teaming up with influencers and models to showcase her favorite floral maxi dresses or vintage tops. Using this platform, as well as being active in her community by working with charities and giving back through her Midnight Rambler boutique, Ashley’s goal is to make people stand out and feel good in the clothes that they wear. She says, “What you put on your body does affect your confidence level and how you feel.” Ashley believes that what you wear really is a reflection of who you are, of your identity. This is particularly true for big events, such as weddings or parties. For her, fashion is a creative outlet and sharing clothing pieces that are going to promote self-assurance and poise in those who wear them, regardless of the occasion or event. She strives for matching the personality to the clothing. In the future, Ashley sees Midnight Rambler evolving even more as a clothing boutique and, eventually, into a lifestyle brand that will serve as a way for her to host workshops and events. Additionally, she is toying with the idea of designing a few of her own pieces to bring into the boutique over the next few years. But her premium is on building confidence in women and what they wear; this remains Ashley’s primary goal for the future of Midnight Rambler. Ashley Fankhauser continues to take the fashion world by storm!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A REHEARSAL DINNER? Navigating the fashion world during wedding season can come with many different options for your attire. It can be overwhelming and embarrassing if you don’t dress properly for the event. When considering your attire to a rehearsal dinner, you really need to consider where it is being held. These days, anything goes for rehearsal dinners; couples are hosting dinners as simple as backyard BBQs and as high end as country club plated dinners. You don’t want to be overdressed or under dressed and feel out of place. If you notice the invite looks casual and states something like “Backyard BBQ,” consider wearing a fun and funky summer dress or a pair of nice jeans and a button up. If the invite has a more formal feel and a country club address, consider wearing a cocktail dress or nice slacks and a jacket.

I'M A BRIDESMAID IN AN UPCOMING WEDDING. IS IT WORTH PAYING FOR A PROFESSIONAL TO DO MY HAIR AND MAKEUP THAT DAY?

26

Yes! You need your hair and makeup done for a wedding. The bride has spent a ton of money on the photographer and wants these pictures to last a lifetime. Not only does the bride want you to join in the morning fun getting ready together but the bride wants you to feel as beautiful as you can with her. It’s all about the experience. How many chances do you get to get all dolled up with your closest friends and take amazing pictures together? Ask yourself - do I want to look and feel my best? Leave it to the professional to make your dream hair and makeup reality.

KIM JUNDT

Sarah Roshan

ARE THERE ANY INAPPROPRIATE COLORS TO WEAR TO A WEDDING? I think that white is really the only color that is really off limits for a wedding. I think that really means a dress that is all white. All the attention should be on the happy couple and this helps her stand out. I tell guests to avoid really obnoxious bright colors and dress for the type of event you are going to. A ranch wedding, backyard affair, and ballroom wedding are all different, so dress for fun based on the location.

27 WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUIT AND TUX? Tuxedos are technically suits used for more formal purposes and are typically worn in the evening, where as a suit can be worn any time of the day. While suit lapels are made of the same fabric as the jacket and are either a notch or peak lapel, traditional tuxedos can have the same type of lapel or be made with a shawl collar. The tuxedos lapel are also made with a satin or a grosgrain silk. There are additional options like satin on the pants, waistcoat, shirt and tie styles that can differentiate a suit from a tuxedo. Consider the time of day, the venue, and the style you are going for when deciding.

DO I REALLY HAVE TO WEAR A TIE? As a wedding guest, the only time you aren’t expected to wear a tie or bowtie is for wedding attire stated “beach attire” or “casual,” but that doesn’t mean you’ll be out of place wearing one. Check your invitation for clues as to what the expected attire is- the style of invitation or a line stating the attire. A wedding is a celebration of so many things, so take the opportunity to dress up a bit more than usual and slap on your tie or bowtie. Just remember, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed, especially for a wedding!

DO I HAVE TO BRING A GIFT TO A WEDDING?

Yes! While many wedding rules and traditions have changed and evolved, this is one that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It is customary to gift the happy couple something as a token of your affection for their milestone celebration. That said, there are many options on what to choose, so you do you, feel free to choose something that feels right for you, your budget, and your relationship to the couple getting married.

WHAT ARE SOME GOOD RULES OF THUMB TO USE WHEN PURCHASING A GIFT?

Wedding registries are still a thing, and traditionally, the bride and groom will list their registry on their wedding website, or include details within their invitation. These include physical items, experiences for their honeymoon adventures, even options for helping with a downpayment on their home! When choosing from their registry, try to find an item that feels special in some way (ie: ‘since we always enjoyed milkshakes together as kids, I got you guys a new blender!”), then ship it directly to their home so you don’t have to lug it to the actual wedding- it’s

easier for everyone involved! If nothing speaks to you on the registry, and you’ve decided to go rogue, gift cards and cash are always safe options, however, I always love a personalized choice. Whether it’s a set of towels with their new monogram, a beautiful frame for a wedding photo, an engraved cutting board for their new kitchen, or even a record player and their favorite album- all make great gifts, and the extra thought and element of surprise adds to the gift giving fun!

WHAT DO I WEAR IF THE INVITATION DOESN'T SPECIFY A DRESS CODE?

If an invitation doesn’t indicate dress code I would recommend doing one of two things: 1) reach out to the event hosts and ask them if they expect a certain dress or formality and 2) the location and time of the event are typically good indications of the dress code.

H e at h e r D w i g h t

Obviously an evening wedding in a church followed by a formal reception would be more formal than a mid afternoon cocktail reception. When in doubt I recommend always dressing more formal than less. You might be the most stylish person at a ranch wedding but I’d rather that than showing up at an event in jeans where everyone else is in dresses.

CATCHER , COLORADO ROCKIES + LOCAL WINE MAKER PHOTOGRAPHED BY: NOAH BERG, NOAH BERG PHOTOGRAPHY @noahbergphotographer PHOTOGRAPHED ON LOCATION AT HOTEL TEATRO @teatrodenver

Take a trip out to the ballpark and you may just see catcher Chris Iannetta behind home plate. In between games, practices, and traveling back to his home state of Rhode Island, the #22 Rockies player has taken time off the field to play ball with the big wine makers and turn new venture, JACK Wine, into a household name.

What’s the one item you regret throwing away or not buying? I wish I bought Bank of America stock when it was $4.92 dollars a share. I was completely convicted in the fundamentals of the company and I was waiting for further sell off; however, 492 was actually very close to its bottom coming out of the financial crisis.

What are you always telling yourself ? Be more patient. I want things done immediately. Take the wine brand for example. I want it to be a household name right now because the wine is so good it warrants it being with the heavy hitters of Napa, yet brand recognition takes time.

What is your not so secret indulgence? I love food. Everyone who knows me, knows that. I love any and all kinds.

What do you wear that makes you feel the most confident? My North Carolina baseball hat backward. I wear it constantly. It’s a staple in my casual dress. I never leave home without it.

Learn more about Chris at www.mlb.com/rockies Find the full line up of wines at www.jackwinery.com

Chris is drinking a glass of 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from JACK Wine available online.

If you had more time, what would you do with it? If I had more time I would learn more. I love knowledge and learning. I’m teaching myself how to play the guitar and I like to draw. Both hobbies I’m not great at but I love them both. I would love to get better at those and take on hundreds more. Woodworking, physics, etc,.
