Dennis H. Cheatham Indiana '65 1943-1983 Dennis H. Cheatham, Indiana '65, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, died of a massive heart attack on April 25, 1983. His death was unexpected and registered a shock of disbelief across the Fraternity. He was president of Pendleton Banking Company and organized and was president of the League of Economic Development, which sought changes in state banking laws. He was also chairman of the board for several banking institutions including: First National Bancorp, State Bank of Lapel, Security National Bank of New Castle, Citizen's National Bank of Knightstown, and Merrillville Bank and Trust Company. He was also president of Pendleton Company Inc., served as vicepresident of the Carmel Bank and Trust Company and was a director of Managers Advisors, Inc. He served on the development board for St. John Medical Center and the Medical Center Health Planning Committee and was a member of the planning committee for the new Madison County Jail. 64
He became treasurer of Delta Upsilon in 1974 and was elected for three successive additional terms. During his' tenure, sophisticated long-range financial planning and long-range budget forecasts were instituted in Delta Upsilon. In 1977 he was first elected Chairman of the Board of Directors, and was reelected for four additional one-year terms in that position. A Trustee of the Delta Upsilon Educational Foundation, he was instrumental in encouraging a new partnership between the Foundation and the Fraternity in development. Brother J. Paul McNamara, President of the Fraternity, led a sizeable Delta Upsilon delegation at the funeral services that were held in Pendleton, Indiana. Brother Cheatham is survived by his wife, Quindaro G. Cheatham, his daughter, Quindaro E. Cheatham; two sons, Theodore C. and John L. Cheatham and his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip McCavley.
