Ladner pitcher earns back-to-back weekly awards Keeley Ainge has been nothing short of dominant in her sophomore season with the Douglas College women’s softball team. The Ladner pitcher made it two straight Under Armour NorthWest Athletic Conference Player of the Week Awards thanks to three consecutive victories. Ainge allowed just six runs in 23 innings of work, for a 1.83 ERA, while striking out 20. Two of the wins came against No. 3 ranked Edmonds and No. 7 ranked Bellevue.

Her first award came after working 14.1 innings and allowing only one run in a pair of wins. The Delta Secondary graduate currently leads the conference in ERA and ranks fourth in wins and 10th in strikeouts. The Royals enter this week’s play with a perfect 18-0 record in the NAC North Region This summer, Ainge will be suiting up for Team B.C. that is slated to play at the Canada Cup in July and nationals in August.

Tsawwassen’s Southpointe Academy is once again offering its summer sports camp — focusing on volleyball and basketball. The volleyball camp is slated for July 4-7 and features two daily sessions — mornings for Beginner/Intermediate (Grades 4-7) and afternoons for High Performance (Grades 8-12). The first offers a great introduction to the basic skills, techniques and team play concepts of volleyball, for both students who are new to the game and those looking to improve their skills. Through the use of Volleyball Canada’s Atomic Volleyball (ages 9-11) and Triple Ball programs, the camp will foster learning, promote success, and increase enjoyment in a fun and welcoming environment. The afternoon session will be geared towards dedicated and experienced athletes looking to improve their existing skills, in preparation for playing on a high school team — using Volleyball Canada’s long term development model. Both sessions will be head-

ed by Fiona Donnelly and Michaela Staller. The cost of the camp is $135 and includes a T-shirt and volleyball. Southpointe’s Basketball Camp is slated for July 10-14 and is also broken down into morning (Grades 4-7) and afternoon (Grades 8-12) sessions. Beyond the expected skill development, teaching the fundamentals, and strength and conditioning, this camp takes on a holistic approach: ranging from developing mental toughness to video analysis and yoga. The goal is for students to learn to play and enjoy the game of basketball. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. The sessions will be led by Paul Wu and Rob McCall who both have extensive experience coaching, ranging from elementary age right up to the senior high school level. The hoop camp costs $165 and includes T-shirt and basketball. Registration forms are available at the Southpointe main office or by visiting southpointe.ca.
