ARTHUB

Sophie Keltner (Junior)

Artwork Description: I wanted to create an illustration of my two original characters meeting for the first time. I wanted to capture those feelings of curiosity and awkwardness when it comes to meeting a new person. Artist Biography: I like to work digitally with my iPad Pro. I usually make illustrations, comics, and animations. I’ve been a big fan of cartoons since I was little and have always enjoyed making my own stories. I love to watch my stories come alive in my art. I love art because it helps me communicate my feelings better than words. Follow me on Instagram, @sik.art.designs

PRISM

Emily Ninh (Senior)

Artwork Description: I created this piece in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsberg as soon as the news came out that she had passed. She inspired so many young women like me and will forever be remembered in history for her contributions as a Supreme Court Justice. I wanted to paint a portrait of her in oils with the word “notorious” in bold as a homage to her nickname the “Notorious RBG”. Artist Biography: I love all kinds of art, both traditional and digital. Oil painting is still fairly new to me, but I’m always looking for ways to push the limits of what I can achieve with my art. In the future, I hope to major in design and continue making art that represents larger issues and topics going on in our world today.

Mabel Szeto (Senior)

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Artwork Description: I wanted to create an illustration that shows that there are always two sides of a situation. I wanted to capture how easily actions can be misinterpreted by using a very limited shared color palette. Artist Biography: I like all types of art. I enjoy how art can be used to express a sentiment or just be done for fun. I mainly do graphic design so I can help others develop brands or convey messages. I favor drawing because I have been doing it for so long and have a lot of fond memories of drawing and painting with friends and family.

JEWELRY-MAKING CLUB

Summer Stevenson (Junior)

Artwork Description: I hand etched the sun design onto gold-plated metal using a craft knife. I attached a gold-colored chain to the charm and finished the necklace off with a clasp. :) Artist Biography: I mainly hand-draw and sketch. I also really like to hand-craft my own jewelery. I’ve loved to do art ever since I was young. The thing I love most about art is how I get to creatively express myself. I love to experiment with new techniques and improve my skills.

Raven Skidmore (Senior)

FREELANCE 01

Artwork Description: I was asked to draw a barbie doll. As I was trying to draw, I realized that there was so many different body types that are beautiful. I wanted to showcase that with this picture because I believe that in fact, everyBODY is beautiful. Artist Biography: I do digital art, and I mostly like to doodle. I have always been into art, however I hated wasting paper. I decided to save up and purchase an IPad so I could draw digitally. I love that I can destress by drawing. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, If I’m feeling anxious I just draw whatever I want. I absolutely love it.

FREELANCE 02 Noor Grewal (Sophomore)

Artwork Description: This piece is an acrylic painting of a fox that I made for my mom. I decided to paint the fox against a dark, green background because I wanted the sun and the orange of its coat to stand out. The style and medium of this piece are a little bit out of my comfort zone, as I enjoy creating realistic watercolor pieces. Artist Biography: My name is Noor Grewal, and I’ve literally been drawing for as long as I can remember. I love the creative liberties that come with creating art, as safe self expression can never be wrong to me. It’s exciting to think of all the different mediums and styles that there are to discover, and even more exciting to create new art. I mainly paint realistic watercolor pet portraits, however I would like to draw more human portraits.

FREELANCE 03 Katja Zimmer (Senior)

Artwork Description: I draw the absurdity around San Diego, in a comic style. "Upscale Uproar" is my take on the chaos of a grocery store parking lot, and "SUB-URBIN" is when people from the exurbs go to North Park. I really enjoy finding gems in mundanity. Artist Biography: I do everything from acrylic painting to sculpture, but my favorite way to work is through illustration. I use marker because I love the brightness of the colors and the shading that I get from them. I started art by making comics in elementary school, and I never really stopped. I think it shows in my style. I really admire the artists behind cartoons like Daria and BoJack Horseman, so I try to give thanks to them in my pieces.
