Mobile Radar Altimeter Modernisation Mission The PRV-13 radar altim eter modernisation is to impro ve its tactical and te c hnic a l characteristics and extend service life, nam el y: to incr e as e tar get a c quisitio n ra nge b y augmenting receiver sensitivity, to enhance protection against passive interference, clutter, meteorological ghosts and their combinations with no n-s ync hro nous pulse ja m mi ng, t o incre ase reliability chara cteristics, and to reduce power consumption. The modernisation envisages replacement of the existing electronic equipm ent in the main functional parts of the radar system with new equipment based on modern components. It com prises a number of unit/component replacements: • of the input micro wa ve amplifiers em plo ying the UV-54 travelling wave tubes by solidstate microwave amplifiers; • of the hydrogen thyrotron in the modulator by a metal-cera mic one; • of the high-voltage vacuu m rectifiers by semiconductor diodes; • of the receiver units in main and auxiliar y c ha nnels by ones e m plo yi ng moder n components; • of the oscillator unit by one built with the 3rd/4th-generation components employing SHF micro-assemblies; • of the mo vi ng tar get sele ctio n, nons ynchro nous inter fere nce protectio n and synchronisation equipment by equipment built with modern electronic components; • of the circular scan and altitude indicators by

If the mo de r ni s atio n is c arri e d out along with the r e ne w a l repair of the nonmodernise d equipment of the PRV-13 radar alti m e te r, its operating life is restored to at least 80% level. Thus, the mo der nis atio n allows to create pr a ctic all y new, modern radio alti m e t e r c a pa bl e of per for m i n g air s pa c e control missions.
