Amer Fort
Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, is a magnificent fort located in Amer, a small town near Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built-in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh I,the fort showcases a beautiful blend of Hindu and Rajput architectural styles. It is constructed using red sandstone and marble, making it a striking structure that stands on a hilltop, overlooking Maota Lake. The fort is known for its grandeur and extensive complex that encompasses various palaces, halls, gardens, and temples. It served as the residence of the Rajput rulers of Amer and later Jaipur. The main entrance to the fort is through the Suraj Pol (Sun Gate), which leads to the main courtyard known as the Jaleb Chowk. One of the prominent attractions within the Amer Fort is the Sheesh Mahal or the Mirror Palace. It is a dazzling chamber entirely adorned with intricate mirror work, which creates a breathtaking effect when light reflects off the surfaces. The walls and ceilings of the palace are embellished with thousands of tiny mirrors, creating a magical and ethereal ambience. Another notable feature is the Diwan-i-Aam, or the Hall of Public Audience, where the king used to meet his subjects and listen to their grievances. It is an open-air hall with a beautifully carved pavilion that displays remarkable craftsmanship.
