Benefaction Honor Bestowed on Two in June Ceremony
In recognition of their years of dedicated support to the Brothers of De La Salle Collegiate High School, Letters of Benefaction were bestowed on John Monigold (‘66) and Gino Paliaroli (SJ ‘55), at a Mass and Ceremony at De La Salle on May 30, 2015. The selection of John and Gino was approved by the Provincial of the District of Eastern North America (DENA), Br. Dennis Malloy, FSC.

Brother Joseph Jozwiak Celebrates 50 Years as a Christian Brother
Brother Joseph Jozwiak, Class of 1965, recently celebrated his 50th Anniversary as a Christian Brother. He celebrated with family and friends with a Mass at De La Salle, followed by a luncheon, on August 23. Since 2009, Br. Joe has been at Christian Brothers Academy, in Syracuse, NY. He has spent the last six years as Principal, becoming the school’s first President as of July 1, 2015. The native Detroiter, who came to De La Salle following the closing of St. Joseph’s High School in 1964, entered the Brothers’ postulancy at Barrytown, NY, in July 1965. After taking his first vows in 1966, he studied at Hillsdale Hall and the Catholic University of America. His first teaching assignment was at La Salle School, in Albany, NY, as a teacher and child care worker. In 1974, Br. Joe began two years of graduate studies at California Lutheran University. Following these studies, he became a school counselor and consultant for Catholic schools in the Diocese of Orange, in California. Br. Joe returned to Albany in 1977 as Director of Development and Staff Training, followed by a year as Vocation Director of the New York District.
Br. Joe began his association with De La Salle in 1983, as a teacher and counselor, and then as Vice-Principal from 1985-1990.
Then came a five-year assignment with the Christian Brothers Conference, headquartered in Romeoville, IL, as Secretary for Regional Formation. In 1994, Br. Joe returned to Warren, as Principal and Director of the Brothers’ House. In 2001, he became the school’s first President.
After 35 years as a Brother, Br. Joe had his first Sabbatical during the 2002-03 school year in Rome, Italy. Then, in 2003, he headed to the Bronx, NY, living at Manhattan College, and traveling throughout the District as Vocation Director. In 2005, he became Associate Visitor for Formation, and was headquartered at the Brothers’ Provincialate in Lincroft, NJ.
