Between the Stacks

What's a Zine?

A zine is a small-scale, self-published publication, similar to a magazine, which can focus on a wide variety of topics. Zines are often used to share artwork and creative writing.

Between the Stacks is DeKalb County Public Library's Teen Zine. Each quarter, we open submissions for young artists and writers in our community to share their work.

The theme for this issue is All Together Now (Kindness, Friendship, and Unity).

In This Together

When I think of the phrase "all together now", I think of how the LGBTQ+ community needs to stand together to live our best lives. I think about how we walk in the footsteps of the fabulous queer people who came before us and paved the way for us to live happily, all together. The LGBTQ+ icons featured in the shadow of this piece are, from left to right, Lady Java, Alan Hart, Marsha P. Johnson, and Lucy Anderson Hicks.

Havdalah at Camp

Havdalah is a Jewish ritual signifying the end of Shabbat. Shabbat is a period of rest and during Shabbat we are not allowed to use electricity. So at my Jewish summer camp, every Saturday after Havdalah we would have a dance party. I drew this picture right after Havdalah one day.
