JANUARY 2020

The ELECRAMA, which has become world’s top event on electrical equipments, saw a large participation by exhibitors from all across the globe. Over 1,370 companies put up their stalls and pavilions at the event, out of which 450 exhibitors were from abroad. From India all the leading names in the domain of electrical equipment manufacturing sector exhibited their products & solutions.

Cutting across power generation, distribution, storage and its management, these exhibitors showcased their integrated offerings at the event. However, a large number of electrical ancillary companies belonging to SME denomination were very much present at ELECRAMA 2020. These power component manufacturers are the inalienable part of global supply chain.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, GoI. The Minister of Power and New & renewable Energy (Independent Charge), Shri R K Singh also graced the occasion with his presence. In his inaugural address, Shri Javadekar stressed the need to make use of such global platforms for exchanging ideas and experience to the power industry ecosystem. He also narrated the success the country achieved in rural electrification. He said that in record time, the task of 100 percent electrification of Indian towns and villages was accomplished. For that he appreciated the contribution the power industry had made.

However, many of the top exhibitors including Schneider Electric, Eaton, Delta Electronics not only brought in their DC power supplies for telecom infrastructure, but also UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems. These players showcased a wide ranges of UPS systems for handling the power conditioning requirements of IT infrastructure including datacentres. But then, they also displayed their modular UPS systems, which run mission critical workloads in new-age, highly virtualized, datacentres and other sensitive medical and industrial applications. So, the event seriously introduced the technology leaders with a broad range of innovations driving today’s automated world.

The other story covered is on Array Networks, which has made India a promising destination for R&D activities. The company has launched Amplifier, a MAKE IN INDIA product at its Bangalore-based ACTI (Array center for technology innovation) centre.

Another important story has been done on VoIC Networks, India’s leading VAD (value added distributor) specializing in IP telephony products. However, this month’s Chief Guest is Piyush Somani, Founder, CMD & CEO, ESDS Software. Enjoy the reading!!

Chief Guest

WE HAVE OUR DATACENTRES IN MUMBAI AND NASHIK, AND SOON OUR BENGALURU DATACENTRE WILL GO LIVE Like most of the grown-up economies of the world, India too witnesses rapid adoption of cloud services by enterprises & organizations. The country teems with an array of cloud service providers including foreign MNCs as well as highly promising Indian firms. ESDS Software is one of such Indian cloud services provider, which has carved out a strong niche out in the IT landscapes in the country. In a candid interaction with Md. Qaisar Alam of Digital Edge, Piyush Somani, Founder, CMD & CEO, ESDS Software, talks about his company’s overall achievements and the ways forward. Excerpts! Do you think CIOs and CTOs of enterprises & organizations have more or less jettisoned the inhibition with regard to adopting public cloud? The cloud has become a $100 Billion industry globally. So, there canÊt be a doubt in anybodyÊs mind whether the enterprises or government are accepting it or not. This industry is valued more than $100 billion, and has been growing at a rate of 40-50 percent. SaaS is the biggest revenue driver in the cloud industry. While people are still discussing public cloud and hybrid cloud, SaaS has already crossed $100 billion in revenue globally. Adoption of cloud and hybrid cloud doesnÊt make any difference now because the businesses are growing and flourishing quite well. So, the cloud is delivering the majority of our digital needs. Everything we do on our mobile phones comes out of the cloud. And knowingly or unknowingly everyone is consuming IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS through their smartphones and future security of data is going to be delivered only from the cloud. The cloud provides, undoubtedly, the most secure environment for accessing sensitive information.

In all the G2C initiatives, ESDS has been playing crucial roles. None of the other service providers can claim they compete with ESDS in terms of our connection with the people of India. ThatÊs why we donÊt bother about other service providers, and weÊve positioned ourselves in a different league altogether.

Do you think the idea of localization of data—propounded by the Modi Government—is meritorious and would further

As a cloud service provider, what is the core competency of ESDS?

OUR ENLIGHT CLOUD IS A DOUBLE PATENTED TECHNOLOGY THAT SCALES VERTICALLY IN REAL-TIME TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM RESOURCES OPTIMIZATION. OUR CLOUD OFFERINGS ENABLE END-TO-END DIGITAL TRANSFORMATIONS OF ENTERPRISES AND ORGANIZATIONS. WE’VE CREATED VARIOUS MODELS TO SERVE INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. WHEN WE SAY WE’VE TOUCHED 38 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION OF INDIA THEN IT HAS BEEN POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF STRENGTH AND UNIQUENESS AND INNOVATION DONE IN THE ENLIGHT CLOUD.

ESDS is the only cloud provider in India, which can claim that the majority of the Indian citizens are connected through our cloud. We touch the lives of 38 percent population of India through all government and banking customers hosted with us. ESDS is IndiaÊs number-one government community cloud service provider, and a top banking community cloud service provider. A majority of loans disbursed in India emanate from the ESDS platform. A large number of Indian citizens who go for a public distribution system to collect their ration and the ones crossing toll booths and the ones utilizing smart meters are now connected on a centralized system throughout the country.

A stronger data localization policy would have been extremely beneficial for India in the longer term. Unfortunately, it has been diluted, and a lot of international service providers will get benefitted because of the dilution that has happened. Non-critical data will be allowed to be hosted outside India whereas the critical data of the users has to be hosted within India. This is what is proposed by the government and would become a law very soon. But, the question is as to why any of the citizensÊ data to be hosted outside at all? Our data is our asset, and should remain within India. Such confusing

Chief Guest laws will allow international players to manipulate·and considering that future is all data. So, if our data resides outside India, there can be a lot of exploitation which can hurt us badly. Countries like Russia, China have now mandated 100 percent data localization from quite some time, and have benefitted from its implementation. Therefore, we should also be thinking on the same lines and revise the data localization law. Today, Indian datacentres are able to provide cheaper services than those being provided by our foreign competitors. Connectivity costs are much lower in India than abroad. The power cost is also cheaper in India. Hence, itÊs surprising to see the pressure by the international community on the government of India to allow IndiaÊs data to be kept outside.

How innovative & reliable is the eNlight cloud hosting platform, from where you offer various applications to enterprises & organizations? In what ways would it empower enterprises & organizations in strengthening their automation drives? Our eNlight Cloud is a double patented technology that scales vertically in realtime to provide maximum resources optimization. Our cloud offerings enable endto-end digital transformations of enterprises and organizations. WeÊve created various models to serve industry-specific requirements. When we say weÊve touched 38 percent of the population of India then it has been possible because of strength and uniqueness and innovation done in the eNlight cloud. IndiaÊs number-one bank when they trust our security solution which has been built on top of eNlight cloud and VTMS can bundled with eNlight cloud gives us a differentiator that no one has in the market.

THE CLOUD IS DELIVERING THE MAJORITY OF OUR DIGITAL NEEDS. EVERYTHING WE DO ON OUR MOBILE PHONES COMES OUT OF THE CLOUD. PIYUSH SOMANI, Founder, CMD & CEO ESDS Software

How has been the market around cloudbased managed security solutions in India? Do you think the opening up of your SOC (security operations center) would instilconfidence in your enterprise clients? Do you think this would also enable ESDS in addressing the security concerns around cloud services?

SOC is something that weÊve been delivering to our customers for a long time but in silos. Top banks have been using ESDS services including IndiaÊs number-one bank now that weÊve formalized it and bundled and weÊre offering our SOC services which include ESDS VTM Scan, WAF (Web Application Firewall) and many more. What are the key verticals you focus on with your cloud offerings? What are the top three revenue-generating cloud services you offer to the Indian market?

Our main source of revenue is being deliv-

ered today by government community cloud, banking community cloud, SAP HANA community cloud, and SPOCHUB SaaS services. Our flagship marketplace platform SPOCHUB will enable thousands of ISVs across the nation to offer their innovative technology solutions that are designed to add value to businesses. The SPOCHUB is designed to provide on-click industry-specific solutions. Customers can choose from various solutions they need to run their businesses with consistency across end-to-end business processes, user

A STRONGER DATA LOCALIZATION POLICY WOULD BE EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL FOR INDIA IN THE LONGER TERM. BUT, THE QUESTION IS AS TO WHY ANY OF THE CITIZENS’ DATA TO BE HOSTED OUTSIDE AT ALL? OUR DATA IS OUR ASSET, AND SHOULD REMAIN WITHIN INDIA. SUCH CONFUSING LAWS WILL ALLOW INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS TO MANIPULATE—AND CONSIDERING THAT FUTURE IS ALL DATA. COUNTRIES LIKE RUSSIA, CHINA HAVE NOW MANDATED 100 PERCENT DATA LOCALIZATION FROM QUITE SOME TIME. experiences, extensibility tools, security frameworks and integration platforms.

What is your go-to-market strategy in India? How critical is the role channels play in your business model? What are the channel training and certification programs you run in India? WeÊve come up with separate channel and alliance strategies. Now weÊve three types of partners in India, and weÊre focusing on growing in India through all three channels·affiliates, channel partners, and alliance partners. Separate RMs are appointed to look into 3 partner verticals and we hope to generate more than 50 percent revenue in the next two years through our three partner verticals.

LTTS LAUNCHES INDUSTRY 4.NOW TO HELP GLOBAL MANUFACTURERS L&T Technology Services (LTTS), a leading global pure-play engineering services provider, has launched its latest framework for Industry 4.0 that seeks to address the problem of scalability challenges, diminishing roles of humans and uncertain return on investments faced by manufacturing industry participants around the globe. The digital framework termed as Industry 4.NOW addresses these challenges by adopting a solution-based, human-centric scalable approach to smart factories. In the post-modern age of Industry 4.0, many manufacturers are overhauling traditional factory setups by infusing technologies based on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). At the same time, they often limit digital manufacturing strategies to a few fac-

tory lines or PoCs, unable to scale with certainty. According to LTTSÊ research into Industry 4.0 in 2019, whilst 54 percent of those interviewed identified use cases for digital manufacturing, just 9 percent are actually scaling digital at an enterprise level. Interactions with industry participants thus reveal the lack of a coherent digital strategy in many cases, as enterprises become entangled in a next-to-impossible roadmap. Uncertainty is stalling innovation. The major challenge as LTTS sees it, is to design an approach that is more human-centric and RoI-driven – and one that makes it possible to scale digital in a factory setup. Industry 4.NOW the latest framework from the LTTS stable does exactly that by putting the focus on Digital Manufacturing Solutions integrating Product Lifecycle Management, Manufacturing Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Asset Management and Product Information Management thereby creating a value-based digital transformation roadmap. Here is a brief on some of the exciting solutions of Industry4.NOW that have resulted in proven benefits for manufacturers across the globe. DIGITAL EDGE

QATARÊS PEARL ISLAND GETS MATRIX ACCESS CONTROL SOLUTION

The gulf nation of Qatar has developed an artificial island called the Pearl, where world class residential and commercial buildings dot the landscapes. For controlling and regulating the movements of inhabitants and visitors centrally in residential buildings, Matrix time-attendance & access control systems have been deployed. The results have been simply impressive. QatarÊs Pearl island city has been planned and designed by CallisonRTKL, and developed by UDC (United Development Company). Located in the Persian Gulf, this Qatari island has emerged as one of worldÊs swankiest high-value mass of land housing residential, commercial (including malls and restaurants) and administrative buildings. Spanning in over four square kilometers area, the artificial Pearl-Qatar island has been divided into twelve precincts or districts. Challenges

The island is home to 40-plus residential towers with flats owned by people·many of them foreigners. So, thousands of people reside in these high-rise buildings. Obviously, security turns out t be a big area seeking attention of the Qatari authorities. For tracking and registering the movements of residents and visitors, UDC authority deployed access control-cumtime-attendance solutions in the residential buildings on the island. But, these deployments have been done separately, in silos, failing to give unified picture on the timings and physical access of people into the buildings and their exit. The discreet and truncated character of the existing time attendance & access solutions posed serious challenge to the very purpose to bring credible control and security to the housing complexes. Moreover, any centralized system man-

installations. After acquiring the solution from Matrix, UDC now has a cost-efficient, standalone Door Controller Architecture. Moreover, Matrix provided the best and hassle-free centralized solution for the residential apartments on island.

After a comprehensive discussion regarding problems and requirements, Matrix offered a complete solution, that includes card-based door controllers, access control panel, time-attendance application software and access control application software. User wise access control policies have also been provided. Tenant wise RFID card for access is there to differentiate residents and visitors. To overcome critical weather conditions, Matrix offered IP65 weatherproof devices for outdoor

After acquiring solution from Matrix, now the entire Island has one centralized system for time-attendance & access control for multiple locations. All the buildings are connected to central control room. Real-time monitoring for security personnel is possible now. Hosts can control over unauthorized visitors and no possibility of failure of the system in critical weather condition arises.

agement for multiple locations on Island was difficult. Moreover, outdoor maintenance of door controllers in critical weather condition of 45.0 C temperature was the biggest challenge for them.

ithin the wider datacentre ecosystem, the field of application delivery controllers (ADCs)·earlier load-balancers·has seen rapid growth, and a lot of innovations are being infused. In fact, a number of technology vendors have been active in this space. Interestingly, many of the ADC vendors also offer SSL VPN products. The close interplay of ADC and SSL VPN has hugely defined the turfs of software application delivery efficiency and secured remote connectivity to datacentres. This is also noticed that many of such vendors also produce WAN Optimization systems. Now, the systemic adaptability of such network-centric hardware platforms also encourages companies to deploy security software applications like DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) and WAF (web application firewall) on them. So, such hardware platforms·which are nothing but specially engineered

servers·can allow ADC or SSL VPN or WAN Optimization or DDoS or WAF software applications to run easily. A number of technology vendors frequent such conjoint landscapes, where the networking and security worlds coexist well. Among those vendors is Array Networks, which has emerged as one of the leading players offering ADC, WAN Optimization, SSL VPN, DDoS, WAF and even NGFW systems & solutions to the global market including India. Of Array Networks and India as a market

Founded in 2000, Array Networks, the US-headquartered networking company started its India operations in the latter half of 2000. However, the appointment of Shibu Paul as its National Sales Manager in 2009 crafted an altogether new chapter of success and glory. Focusing on ADC, SSL VPN and WAN Optimization, the company emerged as a force to be reckoned with here in India. In its report published in 2014 Frost & Sullivan ranked Array Networks as the 2nd largest vendor in the ADC space in the country for the year 2012. The company then attributed its success mostly to government, BFSI and PSU projects. Later on, the company ventured into offering some of the key security products including DDoS and WAF. However, for managing its networking and security products, Array Networks offers management software. Thus the company attained a strong market standing where it addressed the networking and security aspects of modern datacentres. Virtualization, a constant consort

In new-age modern datacentres, virtualization is a constant reality. Whether itÊs compute, storage, networking, network security or endpoint security, virtualization has its role to play. This magic technology not only optimizes the hardware resources of datacentres, but also makes the management of the integrated systems easy and efficient. The coming of the age of cloud computing has been aided by the marvel of virtualization. So no matter, whether it is public cloud or private cloud or hybrid cloud (or in-between cloud of any shades), virtualization plays the most critical role. And Array Networks long sensed the inviolability of virtualization. And hence, it extensively infused virtualization capability into all of its networking and security products. For example, its APV Series of ADC appliances are responsive to virtualization treatment. The hardware can run several stances of virtual ADC applications. Not only that, Array Networks also makes ADC services available to organizations with partnerships with cloud operators. So, is the case with Array NetworksÊ AG Series of SSL VPN appliances, which

again come loaded with virtualization software. Moreover, its vxAG SSL VPN application can run on any virtual machines, while vxAG in the Cloud is a service rendered by public cloud provider. For PCs, especially desktops, the company offers DesktopDirect, a remote desktop access solution. While, MotionPro native app supports secure mobile access for iPad, iPhone and Android. Hyper-converged networkin platform

In 2017, Array Networks undertook a major decision for introducing AVX Series of hyper-converged networking-cum-security platforms, which quickly got the attention of technology leaders of enterprises & organizations. The beauty of its innovation lies in the fact that a number of networking and security software can be loaded to run concurrently on a single hardware platform. This means it does away the need to deploy individual hardware appliances for running features like ADC, WAN Optimization, SSL VPN,

2019 WAS A VERY REWARDING YEAR FOR ARRAY NETWORKS IN INDIA. WITH 40 PERCENT Y-O-Y GROWTH AND A CAGR OF 37 PERCENT ACROSS THE PAST FIVE YEARS, ARRAY'S OPERATION IN INDIA IS ONE OF THE TOP CONTRIBUTORS TO THE COMPANY'S OVERALL GLOBAL GROWTH. THE LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THIS IMPRESSIVE GROWTH CAME FROM THE GOVERNMENT, BFSI, AVIATION, ENTERTAINMENT AND EDUCATION VERTICALS. DDoS or WAF. Based on Linux OS, the AVX Series of network function platforms have been designed for creating a large number of virtual machines, which can run many of such networking and security features simultaneously without facing any performance issue. Interacting with Digital Edge, Michael Zhao, President & CEO of Array Networks, said, „Our hyper-converged network infrastructure is a server that is based on IntelÊs x86 generic hardware architecture. However, it is the software layer, the hypervisor layer, which makes all the difference. WeÊve infused innovations that bypass the Kernal processing. So, packets coming into it are processed directly by CPU itself, a technique that enhances the compute performance a lot better‰. Shibu Paul, Vice President, International Sales of Array Networks, viewed, „ThereÊve been major demands for AVX hyper-converged network infrastruc-

Networking Zone ture from verticals including BFSI, government, PSUs, service providers, e-commerce and education‰. This is notable that Array Networks has tied-up with over three dozen companies in the realm of networking and security, and have certified their respective software products, which can run on AVX hardware platforms. ItÊs this context, which led to striking technology alliances with companies like NSFOCUS, Positive Technologies Fortinet and Hillstone Networks. Thus, Array Networks·a quintessential ADC and SSL VPN systems provider·also offers NGFW appliances running on software provided by Fortinet and Hillstone. The versatility, ruggedness and open architecture of AVX network platforms make the companyÊs product portfolio hugely broader. As AVX hyper-converged network platforms bring various possibilities in terms of solution creation around it, the role of channels becomes very important. „Like other products from the stable of Array Networks, AVX network platforms open up great business scope for our solution partners‰, opined Paul. Echoing similar views, Zhao said, „Our hyper-converged network infrastructure is a great platform, which requires skilled hands for developing efficient solutions around it‰. The company is very particular in imparting training and certifications to its channels partners around its products lineups. „The onus lies with us as to how best can we train partners on our technologies. We also need to certify our partners and their engineers so that they address customersÊ requirements with greater confidence‰, stressed Zhao. On the revenue front, the company is very optimistic about AVX line of offerings. While, ADCs still provide over 45 percent of the total global revenues, the revenue contribution from AVX hyperconverge infrastructure stands around 20 percent. India as an R&D hub

Having entrenched itself in India, Array Networks started looking for making use of the engineering and technical excellence present among Indian workforce. Finally, in 2012, Array Networks established its R&D centre in Bangalore. In its initial phase, the Bangalore facility worked on testing its newly developed WAN Optimization products. Going forward, Array Networks started working on multiple technologies. However, the development process of AVX hyper- converged networking platforms also brought in opportunity for parallel development of a slew of cutting edge technologies. By 2019, the company rolled out its first software product developed in India called MARS (monitoring and reporting system), which provided insights 24

DATA PROTECTION

SAVING AGAINST

RANSOMWARE

Nikhil Korgaonkar

Buoyed by a tech-savvy population, India has become a cradle for technology innovation and quick adoption. In the year 2019, disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning and blockchain made their mark on IT. And, not surprisingly, data was at the heart of everything. The year 2020 will again, be a year of big data. With the rise of super apps, WiFi enabled services and cross-functional customer platforms, historic volumes of data can be expected across all industries. Experts have already predicted there to be around 44 trillion gigabytes (44 zettabytes) of data by 2020. If the digital universe was to be represented as stack of tablets it would reach moon ad back 6.6 times. In 2018 IDC revised their prediction for data growth to 175ZB, equivalent to 26 stacks of tablets filled with the data from earth to the moon. Given this acceleration, cyber criminals will no doubt be ready and waiting with more sophisticated forms of ransomware to steal and damage business-critical data. TheyĂŠre taking a more tailored approach to get control of our digital assets, making it more critical than ever to have solutions in place that secure and protect them. Ransomware, the new-age scourge

India's needs are not different from the rest of the world when it comes to cyber security. In 2019, ransomware attacks grew at epidemic proportions, and no sector was left unscathed. Over the next year, more attackers will come up with evolved attack methods, beginning to target the backups themselves. Companies need to make more investments in more advanced threat detection and remediation software. Along with that, they should ensure companies' data backup protocols are in line with the modern era. Businesses should also look for cyber security and disaster recovery technologies that integrate easily with one another, as it can help close security gaps that may crop up through accidentally misconfigured software. In 2020, Clevel suite should make strong decisions DIGITAL EDGE

For running their automated operations without any hiccups, enterprises & organizations need to have credible and fool-proof DRBC (disaster recovery and business continuity) provisions.

on ransomware recovery plans and have be better equipped to deal with cyber threats.

DRBC Strategies

Experts say that the organization, which has continuous access to its data, is the one that will achieve success in business. The year 2020 will be pivotal for data management and vendors will have to more clearly explain what the true definition of data management is and whether that aligns with what they're actually offering to their customers. Analysts define data management as a very wide and all-encompassing concept that covers data protection, cyber security, analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, among other things. Proper data management mechanism will promote the business continuity of an organization.

Inalienable Cloud

Organizations will dedicate more resources to deploy cloud infrastructures successfully, standardizing a security model that works across different vendors to reduce gaps, avoid misconfigurations, and ensure critical data, workloads and applications remain resilient. Further, to match the pace at which organizations are moving to the cloud, we will likely see the emergence of more offerings that enable an easier and user-friendly experi-

ence. For instance, automation that eliminates manual steps in the migration process and won't disrupt or impact production systems. Disaster Recovery & Climate Change

Specific parts of India have experienced severe natural calamities such as floods in the past few years. The recent Orissa floods in 2019 damaged the IT economy of the state. These natural calamities forced the IT industry to halt their work processes, which in turn affected the revenue of respective organizations. Thus, businesses need to adjust their disaster recovery plans to better anticipate natural disasters that could halt their operations and IT services. Disaster recovery and business continuity solutions must be implemented to prevent extended downtime, data loss, or financial damages due to natural disasters. Channel Partners' Contribution As the ransomware threat continues to change paths to hold organizations' data, the channel partners and MSPs who offer combined solutions of cyber security and disaster recovery to their clients will perform well in 2020. There will be more alliances between cyber security and data protection vendors to meet the demand.

he IP-based private telephony market in India has grown tremendously over a couple of decades. From the classic IP-PBX, this industry has seen the rise of UC&C (unified communications & collaboration) technology, which truly transformed the IP-telephony landscapes. A number of vendors including Cisco Systems, Avaya, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, NEC, Unify, Panasonic, and Matrix Comsec have been very active all through these years. Bangalore-based *astTECS has also come up nicely offering IP-PBX systems and VoIP phones to the Indian market. Later on, Sangoma Technologies and Digium started their operations in the Indian market. These two US companies added further depth to the private telecom products & solutions market in the country. But, the coming of Chinese companies including Synway, Yealink, and Flyingvoice broadened the existing portfolio of products & systems even further. At the same time, these Chinese companies have made the IP telephony products and solutions quite affordable to enterprises & organizations including government entities. Smart VADs providers have played key roles. While, the mega distributors of the ilk of Ingram Micro and Redington have contributed tremendously to the market formation and the subsequent growth of the IP-telephony market, specialist distributors·focusing on key technology verticals·called VADs (value added distributors) have taken this market to the next levels of growth and expansion. Among a slew of VADs active in the IP-telephony space, Ghaziabadbased VoIC Networks has come up fast and impressive. Emergence of VoIC Networks

In the mid 2013, Devendra Kumar Pandey, an engineer from the Eastern Indian state of Bihar established a private telecom solutions company, VoIC Networks, which gradually transformed into one of the leading VADs in the IP-PBX and VoIP telephony space. Yes, VoIC Networks has emerged as one of the leading VADs in the challenging market around private telecom

As of now, VoIC Networks has got distribution partnerships with Synway, Yealink, Fanvil, Neron Informatics, Beward and ALLO. The present set of vendors allows VoIC Networks to cater to the broader DIGITAL EDGE

VoIC Networks appointed as distributor by China’s Fanvil

In a new development, VoIC Networks has been appointed as a national distributor by Fanvil, China’s leading VoIP phone manufacturer. The addition of Fanvil would further expand VoIC Networks’ existing portfolio of IP phones. Earlier, the company struck a distribution agreement with Yealink, another China’s company, which allowed VoIC Networks to build up a rich repertoire of IP phones. Fanvil’s X Series of IP phones address the enterprise market. These phones are feature rich and of highest-quality. For example, X210i, X210, and X7 are some of the top models falling under the X Series of phones. While, the XS/XU Series brings in high-end IP phones for normal business operations. Also, Fanvil provides H Series of IP phones for hotels. It also offers i Series of video door phones and video intercoms. The company also supplies accessories including headsets and adapters for IP communications applications. space within the IP communications ecosystem. In a wider perspective, the company offers IP telephony products (including IP-PBX/UC&C systems, VoIP phones and PRI cards) contact centre systems, and video conferencing products. It also offers cloud-based collaboration suites such as MS Teams, Zoom and BlueJeans. VoIC Networks also brings in IVR, call recording, TDM-VOIP convergence and VoIP security solutions to the Indian market. „In the sphere of IP communications, our offerings are hugely broad and diverse. Our products can make voice, video and data work quite seamlessly‰, opined Fernandes. New OEMs on board

Since the very beginning, VoIC Networks has been handling the distribution business of Synway, a Chinese IP-telephony and enterprise mobility products company. In many ways, Synway emboldened VoIC Networks to make deeper inroads into the IP telephony domains. Along with Synway, VoIC Networks started distributing Neron IP communications products in the country. By the way, the Founder & Director of VoIC Networks·Devendra Kumar Pandey· owns the Neron brand. In 2017, he formed a separate IP telephony products company christened Neron Informatics. The Neron branded IP telephony products including the basic IP-PBX systems, UC&C appliances, VoIP phones and allied accessories have got good market traction in India. However, 2019 saw distribution tie-ups with some of the leading companies in the IP telephony space including Yealink, and later on, Fanvil. Headquartered in Xiamen (China), Yealink is one of the worldÊs well-known IP telephony companies. It is widely known for being one-stop-shop for IP

telephony terminal solutions, meaning, it provides a wide a range of IP phones, IP video phones, conference phones and speakerphones to the global market. „Our aim is to build a strong partnership with Yealink that will address the new and future needs of the unified communications channels and service providers in India. We look forward to introducing YealinkÊs complete portfolio including IP phones and conferencing solutions, to our channel partners in India‰, said Fernandes. „With the growing interest in unified communications, we want to work very closely with our channel partners so that their customers get the most out of their investments in technologies such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom collaboration‰, explained Fernandes of VoIC Networks. On the other hand, the recent distribution alliance with another Chinese company, Fanvil, looks interesting. This Shenzhen-based company is one of largest VoIP phone manufacturers globally. TRENDS IMPACTING

INDIAN BUSINESSES

Mankiran Chowhan

Technology is increasingly being used to cushion against the negative fallouts of the slipping world economic order. Organizations across industries strive to adopt intelligent technologies which can bring better margins, and which can keep their employees engaged and satisfied.

In todayÊs technology-driven and hyperconnected business world, changes in customer expectations, societal shifts, and industry disruptions rule. ThatÊs why leaders think constantly about trends with the potential to impact customers, partners and the global community. Based on trends from economics, travel and environment, from last year and recent developments, hereÊs what you can expect in 2020: Fears of a slowing economy in APAC

More CFOs will steer their companies through calmer waters by improving visibility into corporate spend to better control budgets. By harnessing technologies like AI, machine learning and deep data analytics, automation will deliver greater productivity and intelligence to operations, without growth in headcount. In addition, more travel managers will leverage technology to help their teams achieve the same business outputs with fewer trips. Asia Pacific airline and hotel prices are also expected to climb about three percent in 2020, according to BCD TravelÊs 2020 Industry Forecast, and there will be a bigger emphasis on implementing corporate travel systems to get the best deals. In India, strong demand, competitive changes and regulatory developments will lead to higher fares. As a region, with so many countries and borders, solutions that help firms manage the complexities of business T&E – such as country-specific tax regulations, traveler tax and immigration, VAT reclaim, and cashless payments – will grow in popularity.

2020, companies should no longer expect the same levels of visa and tax flexibility that they took for granted in the earlier part of the new millennium. They will need to keep a close eye on current events and adjust their travel policies accordingly. Add to these challenges, new pressures to diversify supply chains to be less dependent on Southeast Asia and South America, where trade tensions with certain super-powers grew in 2019. There may also be „wildcard‰ trade impacts in the coming year – or for that matter, a reduction in tensions – as we are in a period of trade uncertainty. However, itÊs conceivable that mixed economic growth around the world will encourage parties to come to the table to negotiate, which would push the pendulum back in the direction of freer trade.

Trade tensions will create uncertainty

Small businesses will tighten budgets

A period of widening free trade and travel came to an end in recent years, replaced by rising tensions that will continue to build, at least in the early part of 2020. These tensions will shift business practices in travel, procurement, and beyond. A trend that we predicted last year, that shifting immigration and tax policies would increasingly subject multinational companies to additional tax liabilities, will continue. In addition, in

Over the last five decades, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy. It significantly contributes towards socioeconomic development of the country by fostering entrepreneurship and generating one of the largest employment opportunities. While small businesses are thriving in the country, they have faced major roadblocks in 2019 owing to social, politi-

cal, and economic factors. Moreover, unpredictable stock markets, threat of a recession collectively has had a massive impact. With similar threats remaining a possibility in the coming year, small businesses will stay tough on budgets – they will hold on to expenditures in order to safeguard their business health from external factors that are beyond their control. While these businesses are vulnerable to the unanticipated ups and downs of economy, they will perform much better by expecting and preparing for the unexpected.

Employees get better technologies

In 2020, more organizations will endeavor to meet employee expectations about how workplace technology should evolve. The trend is related to the „consumerization‰ of workplace tech: having become used to great experiences with mobile phones or shopping websites, for example, employees expect their enterprise applications to work just as well. Yet it can be difficult for employers, who face cost, policy, and other roadblocks, to keep up. At the same time, it is important to make the investment because employee satisfaction and retention are critical. The Author is the Managing Director, Indian Subcontinent, SAP Concur JANUARY 2020
