FOOTBALL SCHEME OF WORK

SET UP Using markers, set out a playing field and, within this playing field, set out differently coloured gates about 1m wide.

HOW TO PLAY 1 Children move from gate to gate. The movements they use to get to each gate can be directed by the teacher or by asking the children: ‘How else can we move?’ Movements can include running, jumping, hopping, skipping or moving sideways. 2 Ask children to travel in a sequence of the differently coloured gates. For example: orange –> light blue –> dark blue. 3 Change the conditions:

 Children can move through the gates with footballs.  Introduce some defenders who can move around the area and act as blockers to the gates.  Assign some defenders to specific gates. Children can challenge themselves to dribble through a free gate or one that is being defended. If they choose one with a defender, it creates a 1-on-1 situation. Should an attacker lose the ball to the defender, they swap roles.
