FOOTBALL SCHEME OF WORK
SET UP Using markers, set out a playing field and, within this playing field, set out differently coloured gates about 1m wide.
HOW TO PLAY 1 Children move from gate to gate. The movements they use to get to each gate can be directed by the teacher or by asking the children: ‘How else can we move?’ Movements can include running, jumping, hopping, skipping or moving sideways. 2 Ask children to travel in a sequence of the differently coloured gates. For example: orange –> light blue –> dark blue. 3 Change the conditions:
Children can move through the gates with footballs. Introduce some defenders who can move around the area and act as blockers to the gates. Assign some defenders to specific gates. Children can challenge themselves to dribble through a free gate or one that is being defended. If they choose one with a defender, it creates a 1-on-1 situation. Should an attacker lose the ball to the defender, they swap roles.
